Based on what I saw this past weekend, outside of Clemson, we should easily take every game; even VT at VT. If GT's defense can hold them like that, we can probably make them look silly. I'm sure they will improve, but so will we. Everything rides on winning that Clemson game. We take that one, and we SHOULD BE rolling undefeated into the ACC Championship game. Of course we know what usually happens, but we know that we are better than anyone in this league from what we saw so far. Anyone disagree?
Agree 100%. I know it's early but Clemson is a must win for our chances at a NC. I just don't see any team in our division that can beat them. Their schedule is almost as weak as ours.
Jimbo knows this. I think he will call this game the exact way he did the Miami and UF games 2 years ago. Those 2 games were executed and called perfectly.
Clemson is also a huge recruiting game. It is a must win for so many reasons.

Now? This season has always been riding on the Clemson game. If we lose we won't be playing in the ACC championship which is the MINIMUM goal of the season. There aren't 2 ACC loses on Clemsons schedule this year if they do beat us.

Um.....every game is a must win for a chance at the NC.
This mentality is how we lose to the wake's and uva's of the world. VT will be as good as clemson by the end of the year. The fact the clemson wth 4 new ol starters could run on auburn is an idictment of aubirn's dl and not an indication that clemson's ol is any good. Also, Clemson's d sucks.
This. As soon as we start looking past teams is when we start losing to those said teams we are looking past. Also, VT will be a lot better when we play them and anyone who thinks differently are kidding themselves.
Plus we haven't played a team worth anything so don't get ahead of yourself because of a 60 point win over a powder-puff team.
Dude, we AREN'T ON THE TEAM. So this "mentality" is perfectly FINE for a fan to have. Quit acting like we are all part of the team and have to think like them. I fully expect them and the coaches to take it "one game at a time" and to focus even on the Wake's of the world. From what "I" saw, we should take every game and really only have trouble with Clemson. That is just me and what "I" believe; not the team.
Why do people think because VT played like crap on opening night that now they are just a bad team or that we should easily beat them?
It was one game! Against a pretty good team. If they would have played Murray State instead of GT, then would everyone still think they are an "average" team.
I really don't understand how such an overall lack of common sense is used. It baffles me...
1. It was 1 game.
2. They played a tougher Week 1 opponent than 95% of the other teams in the country.
3. Even if we go under the assumption that VT is average, they still have 2.5 months to improve, which VT always does.
Why is this such a foreign concept?
Oh yea, and we are still going to beat Clemson by double digits.
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more serious than that."
Exactly, that is why I am waiting on the scouting report for Savannah St. Allowing 84 points against Okie St. was a fluke, I have a feeling their defense will come prepared.
Undersized, not as fast, not as strong...they can only come so prepared and we will kick tail. Just hope non of our player or their players get hurt. We really could be preparing partially for WF this week. SS is that bad.
For some reason I went into the weekend worried about VT and confident about Clemson. After watching I feel the opposite.
IMO, you can't judge too much on what you saw in Week 1.
So many things change over the course of a season. Teams looks drastically different in Week 5 than they do now, and by Week 11, a team can look totally different.
Might be a mistake to base too much off of what you just saw based on my 30 years of following the sport.
Doesn't mean your predictions won't come true, but .....

Can't ovelrook WF but honestly i believe we beat then easily at Doak. Then Clemson sets the tone for the rest of the season but even if you win, you have to follow it up and play good against USF and NCST.
