His one year at FIU as the OC/Play caller was anything but good. His offense was horrible, when he left the FIU offense the very next year made dramatic improvements. He's a very good recruiter, but there's so many better options as a play caller that I'd like to have, and I'm sure they would be able to recruit as well..
He has paid his dues. He has been an OC in title for a few years now. He has learned under Jimbo and knows the offense we are running. He has been to all the meetings, practices, and knows the talent because he recruited most of it. If anybody has earned a shot at actually doing the position they are titled for it is him. Worst case scenario he does bad and is demoted at the end of the year and we know he was not the guy. Best case scenario is he does real well and we are better and he gets his shot to be a HC somewhere else. I say let him have his chance.
No offense, but, you're way, way off on this IMO.
What has pruitt done? Jimbo went with his gut. If he didn't believe in Coley than that's telling of jimbo and the fact that he never wanted to give up play calling. If he does believe in him then give him playcalling
The Future is Now.
Way off. FIU was in year one of a total rebuild.
The people that ask these stupid questions should answer what Jeremy Pruitt has done to be qualified as Defensive Coordinator.
Coley would be overseen by Jimbo, and would allow Jimbo to manage the overall game.
If he is good enough to pay 500,000 to stay, he is good enough to call plays.
You guys are acting like you do when recruits don't choose FSU. "I wasn't sold on him anyway"
I think there's a difference between:
- "We didn't want him anyway."
- "He's been a great recruiting guy for us, but what has he shown as an OC?"
Who the hell said we didn't want him? He was perfect for the TE coach and the recruiter that he was. He has shown NOTHING for the OC position, and the fact that Jimbo didn't offer him the play calling abilities tells me that Jimbo has doubts as well. Pruitt may not have had DC experience, but he was considered one of the top rising coaches and was going to be getting some big time offers. Jimbo will find another fantastic recruiter, hopefully one that will be an excellent OC that he allows play calling abilities.
in that case...why did Fisher hire Coley in the first place to be OC...I don't know who would want to walk into our OC situation, it is a joke...and everyone knows it. Jimbo just needs to let go...the offense does not pass the eye test.
Now that I 100% agree with. Padding stats against Murray State and the Duke's of college football doesn't take away the stink for week to week. As for why he hired him as the OC? because he could control him, give him a phony title while not giving him the authority to do anything but recruit..
