Clemson is gonna test him early and often.
We'd do ourselves a huge favor by putting Waisome and Darby on Campanaro. We're going to hammer Wake but using their best player to get our young CBs primed would be a good maeuver.
I fully expect Stoops to have his group ready.
run the nickel and dime packages a lot...dline can handle the run... I prefer darby vs clemson for his closing speed...but waisome is no pushover...
Walking up these hills you have no choice but to be fast!
How has Tyler Hunter and Williams looked in the Nickel / Dime situations?

I feel a lot better about our young CB's having Joyner and Brooks back there. Those guys both cover a lot of ground and will enable the CB's play a little tighter against the shorter routes.
I would like to see a lot of nickel packages with Hunter and Darby! Having their speed out there would be huge!
Rest assured... THE WAR DANCE IS COMING!!!!

clemson is going to test our entire defense for 4 quarters. this is easily the toughest offense we face this year. i'm sure the staff has been game planning for this game for a while now though, and we've probably devoted half our time in practice to it up until this week (no reason to spend a whole week of practice on just our first two cupcakes) so we can focus on wake.

I'm not sure it's a great idea for our young CBs to be on an island in this game. I'm sure they'll have plenty of help.
The key here is quick pressure up the gut. The ends keep contain and there's nowhere to run or hide.

The entire Clemson secondary will be tested early and often.
We have excellent safeties and Nick Waisome is much stronger than people assume. Muscle mass =/= strength.
He's also had the benefit of 2 springs and 2 fall camps, and all of that time with an elite S&C/nutrition staff, and under direction of Stoops. He may not have the eye popping athleticism of Darby, but he's most definitely going to be ready to play.
After FSU went up 21-0 vs SS, a SS WR ran past our left corner and the QB missed the easy TD throw. Who was the FSU corner? The WF QB hits that one with ease. Noticed in the UNC-WF highlights no penetration by the UNC DL, WF had all day to pass. Thought the WF OL was weak? Is UNC's DL weak??
They're going to test Rhodes as well. This is no knock however, I don't buy the hype on Rhodes at this point, we shall see...
It's not hype on Rhodes, there are 2 seasons worth of game film on him. He's good, what did Michael Floyd do before Rhodes got hurt in the bowl game? Nothing
To be fair I don't see Waisome much during the game...but the only time I do he's a step behind his receiver running a vert. I'd rather see Darby b/c there's just no way a WR gets a step on him on a vert.
Agree with the OP--actually think "test" understates what Waisome will experience.

you are basing this off one play where he had safety help. Waisome is the starter for a reason.
No, I've seen it more than once. And the opponent were Murray State & SS... we're talking about Clemson here.
I know Waisome is the starter b/c he's the best overall field corner that we have but Clemson *will* intentionally pick on him, as they should.

I don't agree with that, he was a step behind the WR last week the first game he was where he needed to be. The one thing I give Waisome is this he will get better and he is a true DB...
