UM source confirms Shapiro recruiting role

Read post above to the thought that are recruiting sucks right now.

18th on Rivals in average stars. According to Rivals only one school has more commits than Miami and that school has an over 350 point lead on Miami (~1850 to ~1500).
24th on Scout in average stars. According to Scout you have the most commits, but the school with the 2nd most has ~5150 to your ~3950 points.
Between 10th-15th on 247 in overall rank (unsure of average stars' rank). Average stars of 3.04 compared to FSU's 3.69.

Roughly 2/3 of your class is rated as 3* or lower by all of the major recruiting services. Your 2012 class is not good. Your 2011 class was mediocre and small. Your 2010 class is already a bust (already lost 1/3 of the ~30 signees from the roster).

  • Im not going to bash Miamis class. Its pretty decent. Top half is great, bottom half is all sleepers. What separates USC and UM going into probation isnt the class being built going into probation but overall team depth going in. USC was loaded going in and balanced across years. UMs team is senior heavy with thin depth waiting to take over next year. The 12 class was essential to get UM back and even without sanctions. UM was going to be in trouble unless they went balls out in '13. Well, it looks like what UM has now for '12 is as good as its going to get and it will probably get worse with some of the top half of the class opting to go elsewhere....and of course the '13 class will be atrocious. The effect of sanctions will hit UM faster than they have/will kick in at USC.

  • I think you will see just how much 30 lost scholarships affects USC in 3 years. Right now they appear fine because scholarship losses weren't impossed last year. In 3 years, the scholarship limitations will be a problem for them....even with all the talent they will have. You simply can't play at a high level with only 55 players. Miami will be in even worse trouble.

Saying their 2011 class was mediocre was far too lenient. GREAT post though.

Oh I agree. But USC will still be competitive this year and perhaps next year in the Pac12. UM will be ACC cellar dwellars year 1 of probation
