SEC Championship Game
I watched both sides as I would watch one of our games because the SEC is at the top of College Football and with Pruitt and Sunseri joining our staff.
-I saw a little zone blocking, but mostly man blocking, especially from Bama.
-to a man, Bama isn’t better than us physically up front. They may be a little more cohesive, but their ability to run comes down to a solid OL, excellent TE play ( they usually have two or even three in the game at a time), big tough NFL backs that pile up YAC(yards after contact) and a coaching staff committed to being physical(much like UF) and pounding the ball.
-I believe Barrett Jones is an AA and is a smart OL, but I’d take Stork over him in all honesty. Jones basically just uses the defender’s momentum against them and then sets a pick on the NT away from the playside and the UGa interior players were far too undisciplined trying to gain penetration. This fuels a conversation we have had about our DT’s being too reactionary which reduces tfl’s.
-Bama did a ton of double teaming, especially inside or to the playside. When you line up double and triple tight(TE's), it allows you to do so.
-Bama’s bread and butter short yardage play was to have Fluker(RT) gap down and run off his backside. Once they even had 54(DT) in as a lead blocker crossing behind Fluker. It definitely looked different than us trying to run zone left 3rd and inches against a slanting DL.
-Warmack is good but didn’t exactly pitch a shut out and Bama still managed 350 yards on the ground. Our OL aren’t the only players that miss an occasional block or two. Bama’s OT’s are more consistent, but Watson and Cam are more athletic. I think you could make an argument for starting 2-3 of ours if you combined the two groups.
-Bama was very multiple, almost lining up in a 4-3 just as many times as they were in a 3-4. It could be a look into our future. Georgia was in the 3-4 all game, with 5 players on the LOS just about every snap.
-54 for Bama could get into our two deep rotation. He is a ball player and came back into the game and made plays with a bad knee. 6 for Georgia is a first round draft pick per most mock drafts and he was productive, but at times he was undisciplined and others he basically quit. Most likely he was exhausted. I’d be careful at the next level with him.
-Jarvis Jones was thought to be the #1 pick a few weeks ago. Having watched this game, I wouldn’t take him in the first half of the first round(maybe 12-13 in a 3-4 scheme as a situational pass rusher). He is too one dimensional and Brandon Jenkins is a better run defender by a fair margin. I would absolutely take a healthy Werner or Tank over Jones, even in a 3-4. Bama basically blocked him almost every play with just a TE. If teams tried that against Werner or Tank, both would have double digit tackles around the LOS.
-The talent Bama had on the edge was surprisingly average. 42 was a solid player that we recruited, as was 47. But I thought Stinson(wasn’t he committed to us for a
bit out of Miami) was below average and at about Newberry’s level, and in his Junior year.
-In summary, our team could actually look a lot like this Bama club if Jimbo decides he wants to be a nasty, physical team. We have the OL, especially if Watson comes back, our RB’s will be junior’s and we could have a game manager like McCarron or McElroy in Trickett. Now we just need NOL, Christo, Hicks and Haplea to step up. That being said, I understand why Jimbo wants so much offense(playbook) and balance. He thinks the fast paced Spread attacks are attracting the star player and help you outscore inferior opponents by running lots of plays, which makes sense. But at the same time, you have to be able to run the ball, especially in short yardage. That being said, it’s time to play to our strength’s and have an identity, which of course will depend on who wins the QB battle this spring and fall.
Defensively, we won’t have the game wreckers at DE that we had this year, but our talent should be comparable to 2012 Bama’s and our DT’s will be the most explosive in nation. The rest will come down to scheme and LB play and I’m confident that the new staff will make this a priority. We absolutely have the athletes to get it done.
Good stuff as always.. Happy Holidays and thanks for all you do!
I usually agree with you, but Stork over Barrett Jones? No way are you serious.
When I saw that I checked out mentally.
Unfortunately we do not block straight up and run north to south so when you say needs to let's us get nasty he will certainly have to change his calls and in order to maximize or potential with blocking and how he uses our RBs. Thompson was the only RB worthy of running the zone on our roster. JW and DF both do not have the explosion to run zone. I will also add that it drives me crazy to see 300+ pound men running east and west like dancing bears!! Let's get after someone and put a helmet on them straight up and run north to south.
Hopefully, Jimbo will see that we could be an amazing running team if we take away the tippy toe dancing bear move from our Oline and attack straight ahead.
oh, he's serious. I trust the NFL over canolee. Let's see how many and where bam a a players are drafted vs. our ol. You know, the one that cannot get a yard when it matters.
Stork over Barrett. That isn't just jumping the shark tank, that is jumping the entire pacific. Like I said a couple of weeks ago, entertainment value.
Canolee, I know you mean well, but you may want to bounce some of this "analysis" off of someone before you post it on this board. Just a thought.
Stork over jones
Stork over Jones? Literally alll anybody needs to know when slobbing all over canolee's knob
This post was edited by otown nole29245 16 months ago
Yes. Thanks. Right, wrong or indifferent, Canolee calls them like he sees them. He may not be an NFL expert, but I don't care. His calls are plenty right on, and if he misses once in a while, or interprets something a bit different than experts may, so be it. I LIKE a guy who can goof up once from time to time. That's real. Preach on mang. Preach on Canolee.

How anybody can take this guy seriously right now is beyond me. Every week it's sunshine and kool-aid, and "if we didn't turn the ball over and blocked a lot better we would have played better..."
Stork over Jones.....

Hey kids, go back and listen to some of Gary Danielson's ' finesse' comments about Jones and how he allowed penetration to 99 all night. If I were UGA I would have let 6 get some reps over him. And when Stork allows similar penetration, it's because he is trying to reach block a play side DT(sometimes slanting away from him toward BGap- see VT game).
But please believe the 'experts' that watch a little highlight film. They are on TV after all, so they must be right.
Btw 27, where is Jones projected to go in the draft? I'd wager that we have more trench men(OL and DL) in the NFL in 5 years than them.
And guys, since I'm such a hack, why waste your time reading?
What makes Jones so much better than Stork? None of y'all have offered up a reason to counter canolee.
If you really believe that our guys are better then their guys then what your really saying is that their coach is better than our coach. Because at the end of the day Bama gets that 3ed and 1 run and tires out the D-line..
Use Gary danielson to back up argument
I got downvoted for appreciating the man taking his time to give us good information? Even if you don't agree with him, you still have to respect his work. We have some serious pvssies on this board. Straight up...

The major issue I have is Barrett Jones has been an all american at multiple positions and based on 1 game against UGAs front which is one of the best in football. You have no one even close to that talent play against stork this season and Barrett Jones will be a top 3 round draft pick whereas Stork will have to improve a lot to be drafted that highly.
stork will have to prove a lot to be invited to camp as an UDFA, even with the NFL going to 90 man rosters.
Hes a standard trickett guy. Was a 240 pound HBACK coming out of HS. He is athletic but get beasted by ACC players.
I dont think Canolee is a bad person just because he has blind homerism toward trickett and FSUs OL, but that comment on Stork being better than Jones is the single dumbest thing I have read on this board.
I want Canolee's breakdowns.. Matter of fact, second hand mind you, an FSU coach who reads this and other boards thinks he's pretty much spot on. One can pick at a scab here and there, and he does call bad plays out. Yet he accentuates what our players did RIGHT as his default platform. I can't find anything wrong with that. If you will, have his notes to hand when you watch a replay. Then you can parse the action and critique his observations. It's at once instructive to lay persons such as myself, and gives a much different perpspective on what really happened on a play. I admit I'm usually only half right in my take, and sometimes completely off. It would be well worth your effort.
Yeah, maybe I didn't emphasize A LOT enough about stork's draft stock. His frame is good enough that an NFL team will probably take a flyer in a late round pick on him but he will have to improve.
I don't read a lot of these posts and welcome most to post their opinions but if there is one this dumb (sorry man it is just a dumb comment) they shouldn't take it personally when people react how they have on here.
i dont agree with canolee's opinion on the play of our OL (he thinks they are good and I think they are average) but I at least respect someone that rewatches FSU games.
I just dont understand why he thinks Stork and Faircloth are good at football.
He has said numerous times that Faircloth is a great player. I would be SHOCKED if faircloth isnt med-DQ or shipped to UNA because he isnt good enough to be ahead of Glauser on the depth chart.
Stork is serviceable at best. He looked good last year because Fahrenkrug was a bust of such epic proportions that anyone playing against him would look like an AA (like for instance Barrett Jones, an ACTUAL AA).
I bet we don't. You are crazy if you think 5 years from now there are more FSU ol's in the NFL than Bama ol's. Where is Jones projected? A hell of a lot better than Stork.
You are entitled to your opinion. And I am entitled to say you are off your rocker. Not always, but on this one.
There is such a thing as an eyeball test: you know, the one where Bama goes for 381 against UGa and we go for -15 against VT.
I do like your passion.

Thanks, Canolee, I respect your assessments. You do a good job. Unlike others around here you know what you are talking about.
yeah, we are better than bama's ol: Like that talk. are you sure you want to jump into that camp? Next you will telling us the Earth is flat.
Their coaches are better. I doubt anyone would argue that.
