And that's why he makes the big bucks my boi
You are right... I'd gladly trade places in a New York minute
I don't think Jimbo will have to answer those questions. Teams lose all the time. Only one team wins the championship every year. Our team last year was really good. We had a really good year.
And what excuses? For what? What does anyone need an excuse for?
The whole purpose of the original post was that with FSU having as many first rounders as Bama, those that don't follow FSU closely (non fsu media, high school coaches, recruits, and those on the fence) will question Jimbo as a coach because as head coach he is the face of our program and all responsibility inevitably falls on his shoulders. I don't agree with most of the criticism but I knew it would be brought up on places like ESPN and through other means as a negative towards Jimbo and I was right...it was mentioned on ESPN today and I spoke with a friend who knows high school coaches from GA and FL and it was already being discussed...the excuses part was scheduling, lack of competent assistants, etc... As Nole fans we see that as the truth...outsiders see it as excuses...
The team not being good enough to win a National Championship is an excuse?
Even though I just started posting I have been reading on here for awhile. I would safely say that 90%+ of the people on here, boosters I know personally, and recruits I've had contact with believed we had the team to win it...when we beat Clemson those expectations rose higher...I truly believe if we pull out the nc state game we beat UF and the rest is history...
I don't think so. We made too many mistakes at the QB position, and the UF game we (along with the QB position making some mistakes) completely failed to adjust on defense to what UF was doing.
I can't disagree with your point about the QB and lack of adjustments...maybe it's my FSU bias creeping out but being undefeated playing the turds at home to play for national champs I just don't see us losing....we were winning in the second half
As opposed to what, the "every loser gets a trophy" mentality?
Here we go again.......the media setting us up to fail. How can anyone expect a team with a new coaching staff and a new QB to only lose two games? I have to be honest.....if we accomplish this I will be elated. The expectations being put on Winston are unfair and ridiculous. The kid has yet to take a snap in a live college football game and he is already expected to lead us to a two loss or less season? A feat that an experienced QB and a coaching staff that had been together for several years barely accomplished?
No, you can have a good season and not win the MNC. Ohio State just went undefeated, but did not win the MNC. Did their season suck?
"It's not the SEC conference vs. the ACC conference," "It's Florida State vs. Auburn." --Lamarcus Joyner
Exactly. Hell , I'd take an "Undefeated season agsinst double digit underdogs" at this point under Fisher.
The Seminoles have the talent and the resources to return to their former perch among the nations elite, but still cannot find the consistency to survive routine road trips.
If you can't be happy with last season, the problem is probably you.
There is always room for improvement, but that doesn't mean you can't appreciate the fantastic job Jimbo has done turning this sinking ship to a top notch program again.
It was a good season. But it was a very ugly season. 12-2 looks great on paper (especially if you don't want to read the book past its cover), certainly could have been WAY worse and it almost was. We scrapped it out with some teams we should have blown off the field and arrived at a very successful 12-2 record on an extremely weak schedule.
I'm not displeased with the end result, more so displeased with what I saw on the field week in and week out (with the exception of a few games). The final record is a reminder of the great Bobby years, the product on the field reminded me entirely of something else.

to answer your question I think OSU had a great season. Fought hard and won a lot of games they should have lost, and against the odds I might add. Great job scumbag Urban!
1) Some draft picks are based on upside more than actual production. EJ and Menelik both played well this year, but both have much higher upside than what they did this year. EJ may have the highest upside of any QB in this draft (I think he does, at least). Menelik is a ridiculous freak athlete at OT, but he is so, so raw.
2) We developed talent into first round picks. XR and Bjoern come to mind here.
I was thinking what the OP was thinking at first, but I think both of these counters are pretty valid. You can also argue that the NFL Draft is an extremely arbitrary process; it only takes one team to like a player in a spot. You don't know where other teams had guys on their boards.

We played a soft schedule. If we played UFs schedule we lose 4-5 games. Just saying.
I was speaking generally, but I'd love to have one. Do they really sell them?
Very well said, and I agree completely.
I love how people look at the past with rose colored glasses. We would probably have had more consistent results on the field if we didn't have the remainder of the Bobby years, either.
I guess I see huge strides from when we were losing 4-6 games a year prior to Jimbo taking over. To the same crappy teams, no less. I guess we could take heart in losing to Florida 6 times in a row. They were pretty good.
Hey Cuthbert that would make a great gag gift though lol
But maybe it is finally time for us as a fan base to have the expectations.. Whether its donating money, having 50,000 plus at the spring game or having 80,000+ actual butts in seats at every non 1AA home game.. Can't be big boys mi us the expectation.. The team expects to show up and win every game, maybe it's time we turn up with the same expectations
11 upvotes on this thread is the single most amazing thing ive ever seen on this site!
I dont think anyone is expecting perfection. Nor do I think anyone is dissatisfied with 12 win seasons.
I think people just expect not to lose to double digit underdogs once a year. IMO thats really not a ridiculous thing to expect.
3 in the past 2 seasons is a lot. I cant think of another top 5 (maybe not even top 10) team that has done this.
It's the reason, in my mind, we are not a "top notch" program. With a little consistency we will be, but as it stands right now, I dont consider us so.
Back on topic, my best friend who is a die hard Bama idiot and lives in Athens just texted me. "Noles sent 11? You guys need a coach that will actually do something with that talent, man. Ridiculous"
I havent responded. He knows I'll stick up for Jimbo. If I could figure out how to take his name off the screenshot, I'd post it for those that think the overall perception of us is a hunky dory 12-2 powerhouse. I wish it were, but I don't think it is.
