Guys, he is being offered by Stoops as a position coach. Not the OC. The OC job is being offered to Neal Brown, former Kentucky Wildcat, who is the current OC of Texas Tech, and he is expected to accept this position.
Coley is NOT leaving to be a TE coach, or some bogus "Rushing Game Coordinator" title. He is staying at FSU. BUT, FSU needs to hand over the playcalling soon or he will be gone.
Hope this sheds some light...
Hope you're right.
If I'm kentucky I'm seriously questioning my hiring of stoops
I mean how can you have confidence in a man that would pass over the best OC in all of football and the king of sofla?
LOL. My buddy talks to quite a few coaches. Hell, maybe he'll post it himself here. But was told it would be an opp to come home and have more control of his offense at UK. Therefore, no dice on Coley. There never was...
Think about it from Coley's perspective. This is a good opp to get your name out there, and also make it clear you'll consider other options if you don't get more offensive freedom.
What have you heard about elliot?
Heard anything on Hudson leaving?
I got nothing on those two. I could believe Elliot would be offered the DC role at Kentucky. It's going to be Stoops defense (similar to Coley taking the FSU OC job without a ton of experience there). And anyone think Stoops is giving up playcalling anytime soon? He kicked and screamed about Hudson's blitz schemes. He isn't letting Elliot run the show.
Hope you are right about coley staying. Come Sunday, I guess we will know for sure.
I hope this is true.
Don't want to see Coach Coley leave FSU and can't imagine he'd do so for a lateral move. I'd like to see what he has to offer as our real play caller.
UK fans are certain he will be offered TE, Assistant HC, and Recruiting Coordinator. I cautioned them about the recruiting coordinator part, because that is basically a demotion for a coach who has already been that at FSU and was promoted out of that position. Recruiting coordiantor is a time consuming position, it's not a title you just throw on somebody because they are a great recruiter. Not saying he won't leave, but I don't think he leaves without assurances he will call plays.
"A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt. "
What does any of that have to do with being a promotion. It's definitely a poor move, and much less of a spring board to future positions. Coley, IF he could get the playcalling duties, would get a Kentucky like job himself. Not a position coach job at Kentucky. He knows this.
Seriously, is he any good at play calling? What do we really know about coach Cooley as an OC? If he was named would he be an ACTUAL OC or Jimbo's puppet, OC in name only??
that's what he is now
That's my problem with it. We have no idea how he is as a playcaller.
We won't know unless he is given the chance.
I'd prefer he be given his chance to learn elsewhere. FSU isn't a place to learn how to call plays on the job. We can hire a proven playcaller with ease if we chose to.
He has the endorsement of all his players.
Means more to me than anything else.
Players are not stupid.
Not that I disagree, but players will almost always back their coaches, they are just a close knit group. They have been through a lot of hours of preparation together, and probably some personal stuff as well.
Not by my experience.
All the players supported and endorsed Jeff Bowden too, or don't you remember the head bans and wrist bans with JB on them??
I'd let Coley call the ACC championship and bowl... And make the call afterwards... If the guy has the mental chops to outflank the competition, it will be pretty obvious.... Lateral thinking... Thinking outside of the box...
If our offense struggles, I'd move on... if it is successful, then give him a shot next year. There is a lot of good that can come from continuity and retaining his recruiting value.
Either way, I suspect Jimbo is gone if we end up with 4-5 losses next year.... with how the fan base is feeling this year. If he continues calling plays, unfortunately, I'd say that is highly likely to happen... Here's to hoping that Jimbo is intelligent enough to make the decision that gives him the best chance for him to retain his job for as long as he wants it.
I don't think he has anything to lose in the next 2-games... by letting Coley call them. I think my 4-5 loss statement is accurate either way.

Kum, he leaves, he's not coming back
If FSU is no place to gain play calling experience, neither is it a place for a proven erratic playcaller to continue in his erratic ways without trying something else.
Than they would be supporting Jimbo's play calling, not wishing for change.
See: "hire a proven playcaller".
