There apparently is some competition to host the championship game of the playoff era.
Dallas-Fort Worth and Cowboys Stadium (in Arlington, Texas) has been the prohibitive favorite, however Tampa, Fla. has made it at least a closer race than originally believed according to sources close to the process. The site of the first championship game on Jan. 12, 2015 is expected to be announced this week during the annual BCS meetings in Pasadena, Calif.
“Tampa has sent a very aggressive bid,” said a BCS official familiar with the bidding process.
The city is used to big events according to Tampa Bay Sports Commission executive director Rob Higgins. Tampa has hosted four Super Bowls. The Tampa area is the site of two bowls (Outback and Beef O'Brady's). The city hosted the two Final Fours (men's in 1999, women's in 2008).
“I'd be shocked if the finalists weren't us and Dallas,” Higgins said.

Home field advantage for the championship game in the year we are in the best position to win it all in a decade.
Dallas is the rightful place. New Orleans, Pheonix, and Atlanta should be in it too. Tampa? No.
That makes sense. We host multiple superbowls but shouldn't be in the discussion for a NC game. Good point.
Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or it may last a year. But eventually, it will subside. If i quit, however it will last forever.
My understanding from reading earlier reports was that Dallas was all but a lock for the first NC game, which caused other cities to keep from making an earnest application. Tampa went all out, though, perhaps hoping for consideration in a future season. Sounds like it was a good strategy -- this work will hopefully pay off in 2016.
I agree that Nola and Phoenix would be good options. But to dismiss Tamp and promote Atlanta is silly.
Tampa and any other city for that matter wont beat out Jerry Jones for the first game. not gonna happen
i would love to have the game but the size of Ray Jay might be a little preventative. it only holds about 65000 i think.
dunno why we wouldnt get a shot at the bid for the game. weather in tampa in january is really nice
FSU Ambassador to the masses
If they take out the Pirate ship in the endzone it seats 70k like they do for Super Bowls
GO NOLES! / SCALP EM!
Yes...Tampa would be a silly choice for a football game. They only hosted FOUR Superbowls. The weather really sux in the winter. They have some for the best beaches in the world. Disney World, Universal Studios, MGM are only 68 miles away. Bush Gardens 5 miles away. Tampa International is Consistently voted one of the best Airports in the world.
WHY IN THE HELL WOULD ANYONE WANT TO COME TO TAMPA?
