Signs a class of 22 with 11 from Florida. He is off to a great start at Kentucky.
This illustrates why it is beneficial for a coach to spend time as an assistant/coordinator at one of the Florida school before taking a head coaching gig. It allows you to more easily build those relationships that will pay off for you down the road in recruiting...even in Kentucky.
In 2or 3 years,he'll be fighting to get three star players from Florida.Kentucky will always be a basketball school.
In my opinion, Stoops was a very underrated recruiter at FSU. Gran was overrated.
I'm petrified that very soon he will be coaching at one of our rivals. Be it Miami, Clemson, or whoever. He has the High School connections and player development pedigree to be a big thorn in FSU's side when it comes to recruiting.
The newness of new coaching staff will wear off.
Hopefully he'll do what I consider the smart thing, turn them around just enough to get a better offer elsewhere, and then jump at the first chance for at a better school.
all he needs to do is may them competitive and win 4 games one year and 7 the next and he's on to bigger BCS job.
I don't. He signed Florida guys that no big Florida school recruiting. Solid recruiter, but nothing spectacular.
Yep. Completely agree...get them a couple of Rich Brooks type seasons, and he'll be a hot commodity.
I just dont see Butch Jones being a juggernaught in Knoxville. Once James Franklin moves on from Nashville, maybe he can make some noise in the SEC-E
A lot of the success UK saw recruiting this season had to do with most all the coaches having established relationships with top recruits from their jobs at high prestige football programs. The only 2 that they really didn't have ties to before going to UK were 2 of the instate guys, Jason Hatcher and Ryan Timmons. Most of the rest were either already recruited, or one or more of the staff members had a prior relationship with them at their other school.
I think their recruiting efforts will gradually shift up into the Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri areas, since a lot of the staff has ties to those areas. They will still get kids from Florida, everybody does, but I don't see nearly as many in the future.
