I guess what I'm seeing I'm not really seeing. What I'm seeing is that for the last 7 years our OL has missed more block than made them, hasn't been able to pick up a 3ed and 1 and gets the QB killed. Against a strong defense they just over power us, against an athletic defense they run stunts or blitzes and walk through. It's the same result with different players. So our line was young at the beginning of the year, great. But against the gators they made the same exact mistakes they did all year and got destroyed at the point of attack to boot..
First it was 5, then 6, now 7 years.
With all the changes and turmoil, you honestly think you have enough to judge?
The OL did a good job, with two tackles that were newbies, and two sophomore guards, all 4 of which are going to become NFL OL under Trickett's watch.
I don't know what you're seeing, but I'm not seeing the same thing.
I'd consider it a top 10-15 OL right now, as a very young, inexperienced unit. Next year likely top 5.
Showed how good it was in stretch plays. IZ wasn't good early, has progressed a ton. Run IZ really well from single back under center.
Greek: are you willing to say that, with VT giving us the middle, you believe Coley would have called more runs to those gaps? And if the answer is yes, I will not ask you to reveal how you might know that.
I'll say this: if 4 of our current OL end up playing for money, then this proves that at least one coach on our staff was screwing up REAL BAD. It may or may not be Trickett. But the evidence would point to someone else, because this would at least prove that Trickett was coaching individual skills properly.
You're missing the fact that our offensive line, and output as a whole was very good this year, and our offensive line is only going to get better. The area they struggled on is one that can only get better through experience, which is picking up blitzes involving stunts, and they improved on that as the year went on.
Note that I wasn't saying our offensive line wasn't good this year. I'm saying that one of our coaches screwed up.
yes, I believe Coley would have pounded the middle and forced them to change tactics.
I also believe that Coley would have attacked the flats with flares and TE outs all day vs NCS, until they loosened up the box.
Thanks for your candor Greek.
Yes. I noted that. What did they screw up? How? Why?
Yes we are 10-2 but we were double digit favorites against every single team we played and still managed to lose 2. We had a ridiculously easy schedule and a ridiculous amount of talent. 10-2 doesn't come close to telling the story.
If we were usf or ucf, 10-2 would be awesome regardless of comp, but we're FSU and 10-2 just doesn't cut it sometimes. If 10-2 was our record after playing 6 top 20 teams and we were 4-2 in those games I'd be ecstatic, but we played 2.
Not saying Fisher needs to be fired but his seat should be getting a warm. I hope we don't have to hear the excuses next year about how the program is still progressing and we lost a bunch of starters and we had to break in new coaches and we had injuries and suspensions and the qb was young and blah blah blah.
The only way i buy an excuse next year is if we have to play a lb at qb for the final 4 games. That happens and Fisher gets a pass from me regardless of season.
What I'm saying is that if four of our offense lineman go to the pros, then some coach, I don't know which one, is not getting enough production out of our offense. That's what I'm saying.
I understand also that statistically our offense this year was good. But I am factoring in the fact that we will probably, actually almost certainly, never, ever again face a slate of defenses this bad. When, on rare occasion, we faced a good defense, our offense did not look so good. With four future professionals playing on the OL, it should have.

So Fisher and Trickett don't work well together. What's the solution. Certainly not status quo.
That goes against everything that is known.
I guess I have a different take on this. There are so many different pieces to the puzzle. It seems as if we can't get them to all fall into place accordingly. Great play call --> poor blocking... Terrible play call --> blocked it perfectly... Great play call --> receiver/TE runs wrong route...Great play call --> QB overthrow, etc. etc. You get the idea. I don't know who's "fault" that would be, the team just needs to get on the same page. I understand that there will be all of the above mentioned to some degree (nobody's flawless), we just seem to do it all to often. Again, JMHO.
Why don't you think the team is on the same page?
Just because people banter back and forth on a message board doesn't make things so.
Run IZ from Ace, dammit!
I think Stork is a very good Center. If anything, he has his one snap count goof a game, but he does an excellent job with what we ask him to do.
Like stated above, outside of Stork, we had two career starts going into the year. What else did you guys want this season? VT was the only game we couldn't run and it's because they were slanting and blitzing into the play and outnumbering us at the point of attack. We tried some gap-man and pulling-trapping on a few plays and just didn't get enough reps to get it going, because Jimbo started to take what VT was giving us in the passing game.
If the left side of the line can work out the kinks in blitz pick up, aided by a more alert QB, WR's running the right hot routes and our young RB's growing up a bit in pass pro and this OL could be the best in the nation. But believe it or not, it's connected to the other units.
I didn't mean it the way you took it. I meant specifically on the field. Not sure if its coaching, tempo, rhythm, or what... I'm just saying there's something that doesn't consistently click. On the field.
We clicked an awful lot this past year.
At times...yes. in spurts...yes. consistently? Not in my opinion.
