I never said one existed.
However, the 5 stars won't give you depth, they want to play.
NC teams have depth, and it isn't all megastars.
That's all I'm trying to say.
I hate this argument. I played all through college, but will concede there are people that see things that I don't in players. Just because I played doesn't make me a better talent evaluator than people who didn't, and I consider myself a pretty good judge of talent.
"A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt. "
It's like people that say Person X was a lousy football player and therefore wouldn't be a good coach, and inversely, good players would undoubtedly make good coaches. Some of the NFL's all-time best coaches did not play in the NFL.
In other words, I agree with you.
Actually the very best players usually make the worst coaches, see Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, etc.. It's the decent players, the ones that had to fight for every thing that makes good coaches..
There's a reason why VT doesn't beat teams like Bama or USC, or win bowl games. VT has well coached 3 stars, while the best teams have 4-5 stars that are well scouted, and well coached.
Sure, some 4-5 stars are busts. It's tough to gauge intelligence and work ethic... some 4-5 stars don't have it. When it comes to size and athleticism, the 4-5 stars are the cream of the crop.
To win at football you must have the biggest, strongest, most athletic kids to compete at a high level, but they also must have high character and drive. Plenty of 4-5 stars have it, plenty don't.
If your recruiting class is mostly 3 stars, don't expect to beat SEC teams on a regular basis. It's why Kentucky and Vandy are SEC doormats. Teams like UF, LSU, Bama win the SEC because they recruit size and athleticism. Why is SC in the top 10 now? They signed players like Lattimore and Clowney. 10 years ago they couldn't get those guys.
Why is FSU better now? We signed Joyner, Wilder, O'Leary, Benjamin, Jones, Smith, Waisome, Darby, Karlos, Manuel, etc, etc. all 4-5 stars.
In reality, stars do matter. For every 3 star Werner, there's a 3 star Stevens. For every 3 star Ponder, there's a 3 star Sexton. For every 3 star Brooks, there's a 3 star Demps. It's all in the scouting.
Werner was just an unknown bouncing around between schools. Ponder took time to develop and mature, but we all knew that he was a coach's son and graduated in like 3 years. Brooks was a CB who out grew the position in the weight room, which shows work ethic and desire.
When FSU keeps signing top 5 classes of high character kids, not Xavier Lee's or Fred Rouse's, we'll be back to 90's form. That's exactly what Bama does and they stay on top. You don't see Bama or LSU signing #15 ranked classes for a reason.

Scalp 'Em Seminoles!!!
It's not the X's and O's .... it's the Jimmy's and Joe's...
Stars definitely matter, however I give stars by who has offered a player, not necessarily how ESPN/rivals/etc... rate them. If a kid has real offers from Alabama, FSU, uf, USC, etc... they're elite in my book.
it also helps that Ponder was a smart guy and a good person
Rouse was a moron and a thug
FSU Ambassador to the masses
