I thought he and his crew called one heck of a game. They were on top of things.
Agreed. Thought they did a good job of "letting them play".

Thought it looked pretty good ... minus the part where they called intentional grounding an illegal forward pass.
of course we think they did a good job, tech had more calls against them then we had against us
I saw a few holds on Werner that went uncalled, so they didn't call everything.
Still thought the kid was out of bounds at the end there, other than that not to bad
Sure, that's part of the reason. Had you not told me that, i wouldn't have realized it though. I just didn't see many calls that needed to be made that weren't, or many calls that were made that shouldn't have been.
I concur. I am 100% sure Swofford called them and told them whatever you do don't hose FSU this time it will cost the conference $12 million. They just got caught up in the excitement of the Vatech long pass. should have been called out of bounds initially. Hard to overturn but most likely he was out of bounds.
It was just a difficult call to make based on the review. The two referees got together after the play, talked it over and agreed on the call. They quickly reviewed the play and ruled it as "standing" (as oppossed to confirmed), which means there was inconclusive evidence. What I'm getting at is the fact that they did their job correctly.
My only complaint is the VT touchdown where the receiver pulled Joyner's face mask down.
Lamarcus couldn't make a play because of the face mask.

Yeah, Joyner was like WTF? Seriously?
"The measure of a man is what he does with power."
There were a few plays I thought they got wrong and they did miss a few holds. However, they didn't make any calls or do anything that made you wonder how they even have that job. They didn't do anything to make the announcers call attention to them, and for us as fans to think we could do a better job then they do.
So we're so used to ACC officials sucking that when they have a so-so game we think it was an awesome job?
Exactly, and this is what we should hope for every game.
If we can call them out after every bad game, I think we can at least credit them when they do their job.
Wait, they are to be applauded for...doing their job?
I would be thrilled if every ACC game we played was called to the standard it was tonight. It wasn't perfect, but I didn't get super pissy at the refs at any one point like I normally do.
There were a few missed calls, but overall I guess they did an admirable job for being a Cherry crew. First the interception "O'Leary was being hugged" announcers words not mine, of course Joyner in the end zone on the TD and the last big catch was clearly out of bounds even with that horrible angle. Other than that a fine job by the officials.
It's a sad state of affairs in the ACC when it comes to this, but yes, that's why we applaud.
Two straight games where we are not getting INTENTIONALLY HOSED!
The suspension and letters seem to have sent a message.
I betcha' VT can point to several calls they should have gotten, so yeah,
I'll take the way this game was called 100% of the time.
Agreed. I've seen a big difference since the suspension and warnings. Goes to show we were right that they were cheating.
"It's not the SEC conference vs. the ACC conference," "It's Florida State vs. Auburn." --Lamarcus Joyner
The phantom holding call on the Vt db was awful...it was right in front of me, and I dont think the guy ever touched our guy.
But that said, it was not the usual chinese fire drill, we have come accustomed too, even the replay reviews were not 20 minutes long.
If we are going to use instant reply.. shouldnt there be a standard of video angles and cameras? shouldnt all stadiums be modified for this so its the standard across the board? just saying..

There were a couple of "WTF" calls on both sides (the one you cited was a good example), but the game was called evenly, IMO.
