Great thread. A healthy amount of '98 butthurt has some ignorance flowing on Tennessee though. It may not be Gruden but the Vols have tons of money and will get a great hire. Mentioning the coach at MTSU let's me know you don't know what's up. But of course, Pben is a great poster he just isn't a UTk insider by any stretch lol
Meh, it won't be hard to find a capable DC at FSU.
UT reported a 4 million dollar budget deficit. They have a lot of money, but no extra money.
I know for a fact Taggart will not take the UK job. WKU is not just a basketball school, hell, when I played, were were very relevant evey year in the playoffs, taking it in 2002. WKU is perceived that way because you saw us in the NCAA Tournament, and fotball just moved up to FBS. Back to Taggart. One, he hates everything UK represents in the state, he hates that so many students on the WKU campus wear UK gear all the time. He also would never take it because they would not put the resources into the program he would want. He will hold out for a better job, as well he should, he has taken a WKU team that was successful in FCS, made he transition to FBS and struggled, and now is bowl eligible after only his 3rd season (they were bowl eligibe last season, but got shafted). He will be a huge get for anyone that hires him, but they will have to be willing to put the support behind the football team.
I know personally, he would like to get into the state of Florida. He played at Manatee, and already has a lot of recruiting connections in the state. I would never ask him, but I wonder if USF were to fire Holtz, if that job is appealing enough to him. Even being in the Big East, USF had a pretty good run under Leavitt, getting all the way up to #2 in the polls at one time.

"A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt. "
Cal is almost certain to open up. The bloom has been off the rose for a while now and it doesn't look like Tedford is going to do enough this year to save his job.
I don't see Haden making a move at USC for at least another year or two. They'll at least let probation play out a little longer, especially since Kiffin is doing such a good job recruiting despite the limitations.
The press is openly asking Danny Hope questions about his job security at post-game press conferences, and that's never a good sign. Purdue could open up.
Sounds like for buyout reasons both USF and Southern Miss won't be able to afford to make a move this year, but they're worth watching. I seem to recall the buyout for Paul Johnson being extremely high, so I think GT is stuck with him. I suspect Iowa fans would be happy to dump Kirk Ferentz at this point, but they're probably going to be stuck with him for a very, very long time.
I definitely think they could make a move at Syracuse if they don't make bowl eligibility.
Don't think Colorado makes a move, but they're such a disaster right now that one never knows.
Tennessee fans want to make the move, but if they don't fire Dooley right now they may be stuck with him for another year. The schedule sets up very well for the Vols to end the regular season on a 4 game winning streak. That and a bowl win, and they might have to give him another year considering they'll likely be returning a ton of starters.
Do any of the Mississippi State, Louisville, or Cincinnati jobs open up because their coaches get hired away? Does a program like Arkansas try to steal a guy like Dana Holgorsen away (assuming WVU doesn't get blown out every game the rest of the year)?
The reason I considered them a basketball school is because of some of good players to come through the school like Courtney Lee who has been a solid role player in the NBA. I also did not know Taggart hated UK
I would know and yes they do. A lot. Bill Haslam has been assuming Dooley wouldn't be the answer since the day they hired him. When bill Haslam calls his buddies...,
UTk has spent around 34 million on facilities for football this year. Leading to a reported deficit. Those expenditures won't repeat next year.
I wasn't trying to be a jerk, I just get defensive about my alma mater when people say we are only a basketball school. Yes, basketball has been the most regognizable, but football has been relevant for close to 2 decades, although most wouldn't know because it was at the FCS level. Admittedly, there was a time football wasn't anything, but that was before Harbaugh fought to keep the football program, and Willie became the player he was there. Willie has hit almost deity status at WKU putting them back in the picture of college football in only his 2nd season, all this after having his number retired as a player after he graduated. Willie would like to compete at the highest level, no doubt, but it will take a lot to pry him away from WKU.
I'm sure they did spent 34 million on facilities, they spent 110 million on athletics last year (FSU spend 87 million) with a 104 million dollar budget, but that doesn't mean they'll have extra money just because they spent 34 million on athletic facility improvements. That could have been apart of their 104 million dollar budget, bonds or fundrasing done over several years time (ala. our IPF).
Gruden to Tennessee is my bet. Good qb decent offense just bad d.
I've heard Rumors of Golden to BC. He'd be back in the Northeast and away from the UM dumpster fire.
I live in B1G country and while I'm certainly no insider, you do hear things from various fanbases.
Coaches that absolutely aren't going anywhere (unless it's a promotion): Hoke, Meyer, Dantonio, O'Brien, Fitzgerald.
Ferentz has been a great coach at Iowa but they've been mired in mediocrity for a while now. Unfortunately his contract is huge and runs for a really long time. So very little chance of a buyout.
Pelini looks to be safe as long as they don't tank the end of the season. They're currently on pace to make the B1G title game, but the Husker fans are unhappy with routine 9-3 finishes. That's what got Frank Solich fired.
Jerry Kill is safe at Minny as long as his health holds out.
Beckman at Illinois is in big trouble as they've been a disaster after firing Zook. But has there ever been a coach canned after one season without having off-the-field stuff? Probably gets canned after 2013 or 2014 season.
People at IU hate Kevin Wilson but he actually has their offense humming this year and they've been competitive. If they had a repeat of last year, he would have been gone.
Wisky started the season pretty rough but that Oregon St loss doesn't look so bad now and Wisky basically defaults to the B1G title game d/t PSU and OSU on probation.
Hope is the guy most likely to get the axe (at Purdue). They started off solid but have been getting thumped and lost four in a row. However they finish with PSU, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. If they go 3-1 he may survive. 2-2 leaves them bowl ineligible and he's in big trouble, since he's apparently kind of a dick off the field.
I confess i know very littel to nothing about UT, but I would think Stockstill would be a common sense hire..so of course they will chase Gruden.
Bill O'Brien has a big buyout almost as much as Chizik's, and besides, which college job would he be interested in right now? If he were to leave PSU at the end of this season, some NFL owner will have come up with a big check.

Well you know more than me about FSU and other stuff, I just get UTk. Ha
Tennessee wanted to search for a coach on secret so if they didn't get an Ace or a King they could hold off. But Dooley told a big donor to f___ off about ten days ago and that guy let the cat out of the bag for spite. What I heard. So it's over, Dooley WILL be fired and everyone knows it.
I think Petrino going to Auburn depends on how much power Bobby Lowder still has with the Auburn program.
No inside knowledge but common sense tells me Tennessee will want a name coach and not want to reach for another Dooley-like hire. That didn't work.
Golden if he's smart and gets a few good offers...better hit the road. If the NCAA comes down on UM he's dead in the water for several years and his career will be going backwards not forward.
big Willie Taggart fan
anybody that Jimmy Hairybaughs think that highly of is legit coaching gold
Taggart is going to be a steal, wherever he goes. If UT is serious about getting rid of Dooley, I think that job would be really good for him. His recruiting connections in Florida would have UT right back in the thick of things in the SEC East.
They did not have a choice. He was the only one that wanted the job
Georgia Southern is probably the best team out of those 4.
Somebody will want Golden's South Fla recruiting connections.
He should leave while he can because the scholarship reductions are going to kill them the next few years. Penn State will suck and his value will go down. Auburn is a pretty big job, I could see him leaving Penn State for them.
Auburn is going after Jimbo, his wife graduated there he has said he loved auburn, we have more money, better facilties, and you cant honestly compare the 2 towns of tally and auburn, not trolling just telling you some facts
The Gus Bus is rolling, get on or get out of the way!!
At least you're right about one thing.
