Why are you hating on Bob Costas?
There's just something about him that makes me change the channel. I don't know what it is.
Yes but is anyone watching when all other big time college events are on espn or their affiliates?
Sure acc fans will but will anyone else? Nbc needs much more than the acc to take on espn.
I like Costas. Think he does a great job. Pretty objective, not like the espn announcers. Watching games on espn gets old very fast.

Pben good post. Friendly Hurricane here. I think ND would be huge for the ACC and I also believe Rutgers would be the team to go after. Louisville as a backup plan possibly.
I like me some Bob Costas. I won't lie.
Give me ND and Penn State.

Have to start somewhere, and when 30000 people show up to the LA Coliseum in green to root for the Irish, that tells me ND is a huge enough draw to elevate the conference.

I like the idea of having Notre Dame in the conference. It is a team with tradition added to our conference and it can help with recruiting. Telling recruits you will have a chance to play ND, Florida, Miami every year will be a nice carrot to dangle out in front of them.
if this means we would have bob costas intros for our games
im 1000000000000000% for this
Probably the greatest pregame intro ever produced for a college football game. The game that followed lived up to the hype.

Then we get what we want.......a monster TV deal
I have a little trouble understanding this "open contract" idea. We just added SU and Pitt, we didn't become a free agent and tested the waters, ESPN still has exclusive rights. How does adding ND tear up the contract when adding Pitt and SU did little.
This wouldnt happen - not enough games from ACC on. IF they won the contract probably some thing like NC first pick, ESPN second, etc
Would be just like CBS & ESPN for SEC
ND to the ACC is a complete and total pipe dream.
It is also the only thing that can save the conference due to the HORRIBLE, LONG term, contract Swofford signed.
I agree with one of those two statements.... ok back to watching FSU blow this BB game....
Check that....WOW....this team is like watching Tug Mcgraw pitch in the old days.

When Pitt and Syracuse were added the contract was renegotiated. We didn't want to shop around, ESPN took care of us.
Actually, the contract did NOT allow the ACC to shop it around.
Not sure how 'ESPN took care of us' when the contract hasn't been renegotiated yet. IF rumors are accurate, it puts the ACC behind every other conference by about $6 Million per team, not counting tier 3 money.
ESPN has actually locked the ACC into the worst TV contract of all the major BCS conferences.
This is very true...which is why the putting it out to bid, basically between nbc and espn would be very appealing.
Regular season college basketball has seen falling viewership and market share for the last 10 years....The only thing that is going to get the ACC back into to the big boy conference money is a football powerhouse.
We can't just open it back up for all networks to bid on just by expanding.
Actually, we can, and that's the way it works.
It's nice to get perspective from guys like this and Pben, who have good information to share and aren't just pretending to know what's going on.

I don't like NBC Sports and completely hate Notre Shame. Outside of FU the only team I really despise is ND. I revelled in our Bowl victory over them. Heck the scoreboard photo I took is still my signature over on Warchant. So with that being said, I'd welcome them into the ACC... with a middle finger and a Nuck Fotre Dame chant. I would love to see FSU whoopin' that AZ on a regular basis. I would actually pay big money to see it happen.

No we can't and no it doesn't. We can renegotiate the annual money we receive from ESPN but ESPN owns the rights for another 11 years (12 on the original deal). Simply adding a new school does not automatically open up the contract back to the open market. Getting an extra $2M/year from ESPN by adding Cuse and Pitt (rumored, not finalized) isn't because the ACC put its rights back out on the market and ESPN outbid other networks. ESPN owns the rights.
Anyone who believes that this is happening anytime soon has a fundamental misunderstanding of what independence means to ND. It's their institutional identity.
I'll also be shocked if the plus one doesn't have a path for independents to get in.
