Very solid post and thoughts BigErn.
I'm really not looking forward to this off-season. The arguing on this board about Trickett vs Coker vs Winston will be nauseating.
Hell, the anti-Trickett crowd is already annoying. Not sure why there's hate for the kid.....
No. O'Leary is a good athlete who just tried to do too much.
TE's by definition are supposed to be relief valves for the QB when he's in trouble.
There's no doubt he should have lowered his shoulder and rammed the DB, but he is in the right place most of the time unlike TE;s from years past.
You can't bag on a player for making a poor decision, just because it happened to be a prominent one.
He may have to fill Lonnie's role next year. Who knows.
I think there will be some growing pains with a new QB. That is probably my only concern with the offense.
In regard to our defense; I think things will be interesting when Stoops leave. I honestly think he is gone. He has earned a HC job somewhere. Maybe Louisville when Charlie Strong goes to a SEC school (UK, Tenn, Auburn)? So there could be some issues with a new coach. Even if it is Hudson (who I hope is next DC). There are no guarantees Xavier, B Jenkins, or Werner stay.
I don't know. We might may not have a drop off. However, the winner of FSU vs Clemson wins the division.

It's not hate. It's who people think can take the team farther. Trickett put up good numbers in his time, and has better touch on the ball than EJ, but he has never won a game here, despite that. I don't care who is signaling in plays or wears the headset, the job will be won in the winter and spring. Even if Trickett were to win the job, are you confident he stays healthy the whole season? I think Trickett it the prototypical backup QB, a guy that knows the offense very well, but just isn't at that other level to be your full time starter. There is no shame in that, some guys aren't starting material, but still have an impact on your team because they allow the coaching staff to rest easier knowing if something happens to the starting QB, a capable guy is available to take over the reigns.
My opinion, there is a reason Jimbo went after Coker and Winston so hard, and especially with Coker, he's not going to only play 1 full year, stuck behind Trickett for 2 seasons. If Coker loses out in the spring, I think Trickett will start for 1 season, with Winston being the backup, and Winston taking the reigns in 2014. If Coker doesn't win the battle in the upcoming Spring, I think Jimbo moves on to grooming Winston.

I think some of the posters on here have wind between their ears - He is a 19 year old kid, quit talking so much crap like that about him - He does a great job blocking, Herbie and Brent said that last night about 6 times -
Werner/Dawkins/Carradine/Jenkins/Rhodes are not average players. And thats assuming LJ and Jones don't bolt (I doubt they will, but you never know)
D will take a step back without a doubt. Thats a lot of talented experience to lose from one unit
Defense will drop off for sure. Not sure offense will.
Spot on. I agree with most of what you said. I don't see anyway that Werner comes back. I agree that Rhodes PROBABLY doesn't have a 1st rd grade, but he could test off the charts and sneak into the late 1st or 2nd round. If I had to guess, our 2 deep will look like this next year:
Waisome/Recruit (Marquez White?)
I agree. I think the offense will be much better. Line will be excellent and we will have a nice stable of backs, even without CT. We have a ton of WR and I expect the TE's to be more involved as H-backs with the loss of Lonnie. I like EJ, but I think Jimbo doesn't use him as effectively as we could (rollouts, option passes, more designed runs).
It could be argued that Lonnie is our biggest loss on offense
DE will drop off, but that's all. Not sold at all on Edwards and Newberry. Casher I have no idea. Jenkins should be back. This is the end result of losing out on Fowler, Lynch, Rasco over the years.
DTs will be McAllister, Jernigan, McDaniel, Goldman, Mitchell, Lawrence-Stample, Shanks... a better unit than we have now.
Jones and Telvin return as seniors. Northrup and Eligwe will be upgrades to Moody and Vince. Good chance a couple freshman come in and light it up, like Thomas and Levenberry.
Darby, Waisome, Keelin, PJ, Blake will all be better next year. I expect Darby to be better than Rhodes soon.
Joyner, Brooks, Hunter, Karlos all return at Safety.
Possibly a better D if we can get production out of DE.
Scalp 'Em Seminoles!!!
I think we may end up missing Lonnie more than anyone else.
Man, I agree. All of our stupid ass players suck. Unless they are later good, in which case I always knew they were. UF is so good. Our coaches are pussies that never win any games. They are wasting all our studs that recruited and developed themselves. We should be more aggressive at all times, unless it doesn't work, in which case it was totally stupid.
Oleary is awesome. But also sucks hard because he fumbled. The backup is 10 times better, anyway.
Am I doing it right? This is a message board, after all--home of the knee jerk reaction.
Wow. There's no middle ground here. If you are a freshman, you either are terrible or soon to be better than an NFL 1st rounder.
Trickett is a QB who thinks his arm is better than it is, it will cost him and us over and over. Like the kid but he's had one good game and a lucky pass yet "he's a QB". Athletes playing QB look like Denard Robinson not EJ Manuel.
I have a hard time with some of these posts, but I'm slowwwwwwly learning not to be bothered that much.
You forgot that that all the girls at FSU are ugly, unless they're hot, then they're not.
Unfortunately, a big dropoff at DE changes the entire defense. The DB's can't cover all day, we have to get some pressure. I'd like to see us make a big leap at DT next year...McCloud is clearly not himself.
Getting Zadarius Smith and Jenkins coming back are key for us. If that happens, our defense will be better, even if we lose LJ and/or Rhodes
