Christian Jones would test through the roof. His tape isn't there, and I do think he will probably be back, but you never know.
I agree for the most part about CB, but there is still a chance that Joyner grows (he's not getting any taller). I think he probably comes back too, but again, you never know.
I think we need one of Werner/Jenkins PLUS the JUCO. Assuming we only get one of the 3, our depth would be 1)Sr DE or JUCO 2)Newberry 3)MEJ 4)Casher. That is not enough. One injury and its a 3 man rotation, which is scary for that position.
Lonnie's blocking will be missed. He is a gifted blocker and you can pretty much go back and watch every good game that we have had running the ball the last 3 years and see him as the common denominator.
EJ is a gifted on the designed runs. People forget because Jimbo only pulls it out when we really need it (ie big games). Just because a guy has some escapability (which I'm assuming you believe Coker does) doesn't mean that he is the runner that EJ is. Also, I think there is a very good chance Trick starts next year. He is confident, and puts the ball on the money. People are down on him because he is rail thin, but if he gives us the best chance to win he is our guy
I wouldn't have a problem with either Coker or Winston, IF they win the job.
I think many on here become infatuated with the physical dimensions and mobility.
While those are certainly a plus, they are not as important as what is in between the
1. Knowing the offense inside out.
2. Being able to translate that knowledge onto the field at game speed.
3. Quickly and accurately identifying the defensive alignment.
4. Quick reading progression from receiver to receiver.
5. Smart decisions.
6. Quick and accurate throws.
Those qualities I list are most important to a good/great college QB.
None of these qualities require a mobile QB
IF Clint is superior in those areas, he should and will start.
If those things are all equal, then I too would prefer a mobile QB.
As has been pointed out, the OL should be even better in the run game
and in pass protection next year. These facts should make it easier on
the new QB.
I don't know that next year our team will be better overall, but I do believe
they may be the best offense since the Dynasty years.
It's not that I dont agree with your points I just feel we would scheme differently in terms of using Lonnie's current skills. Also Kourtzidis looks like he could do a good bit of what Lonnie does in the lead blocking game. We will go mostly 3 WR, 1TE, 1RB next year and then a good bit of 2WR, 1/2 TE, 0/1 HB, 1 RB as well. O'Leary, Haplea, and Kourtzidis will be so far and away the best TEs we've had at FSU in a long time.
Jones isnt quite the athlete you may think. I expect him to run a 4.65 and jump maybe 32 inches. He's no combine freak, just a really good athlete. He looks like a Greek god and that counts but he's simply a 4 year player.
Great post. I personally believe you cant bet against Trickett as of right now. Mostly message board fodder annointing Coker. Our offense will be a Ferrari and Jimbo wont be looking for high ceiling at QB he'll make the decision about 95% based on decision making IMO.
Even as type this it sounds "Play Station All American" but I think Trickett starts next year with Coker getting a good amount of PT in blowouts and then Trickett gets passed by both the next spring and either transfers or "retires" and starts coaching with us or Samford.

These are great posts, but i vehemently disagree on one point.
If Clint is the starting QB next year, there is no way in hell, barring an implosion, he gets passed by the following year.
Just won't happen.
This year versus next year: grades 1-10 IMO
QB 12 9.0, 13 8.5( take a hit with mobility big time, but I expect a better passing game)
RB 12 9.5, 13 9.5
TE 12 8.5, 13 9.5
WR 12 9.0, 13 9.5
OL 12 8.5, 13 OL 9.5
DT 12 9.5, 13 9.0
DE 12 9.5, 13 8.0( 9.0 if Werner or Jenkins come back, 8.5 if we get Smith and he really good)
LB 12 7.5, 13 8.5(Jones will be back)
CB 12 9.0, 13 8.5
S 12 8.5, 13 9.5
Sounds about right.
The question will be if we can leverage the better OL and increased accuracy into a prolific offense after losing QB mobility.
The other thing is, that everyone loses their seniors, so relatively speaking it comes down to whose youngsters are better prepared. I think our Dline won't drop that much, just because of the coaching.
At, what do you think you are some kind of insider? ;)
I was telling a Bama fan at the gym today that we lost two preseason AA's and we are still #3 in the nation. That is what becoming a Program is all about. And when we evaluate our team, we aren't taking into consideration other teams losses. Good point, bud.
This just comes from telling my son over the years the same thing.
When he was a freshman, his coaches has such high hopes for him, but all he could see was the 18 year old seniors pounding on him. It made him doubt he could play, and I had to remind him that the only people he had to beat were his freshman class. He knew that was a piece of cake.
Same here, he doesn't have to be the best TE in the country to get to the next level, he has to be the best TE of his class.
So I tend to look at our team the same way. How much are we losing versus vs how much our opposition is losing.
Clemson and UF will be a handful on the road next year. All the other games I'm nto too worried about.
This is exactly how I feel, y do fsu fans brush off Tricket?
Because he was 165lbs last year and looked like a middle schooler physically and some just cant get over it. He's 180 now and likely 187+ next year. At 6'1 that's plenty of weight. He has an extremely strong arm and a coordinator's level grasp of the offense.
But when you see him stand next to Coker you understand the issue. Coker is prototype. He's 6'5 235 and really athletic as well. Then you have 5 shiny stars next to Winston's name.
I remember we had 5 shiny stars next to Kyle Wright 's name, that didn't work out...
ok? Inefficient, poorly led programs can waste mountains of talent. FSU and Miami fans know that well. FSU is a really good program right now. Winston will develop. And if not, we're good.
"I think if we can land the Juco DE and one of Werner or Jenkins is back, we should be right in the top 5 hunt again. Or we need to move Hicks back. "
I think FSU has to move Hicks back no matter what. Of course, that would be easier if FSU landed a solid TE recruit, but even without that, FSU has 3 TE returning with experience. Factor that and the insane depth chart at WR, FSU offense doesnt need Hicks like the defense does.
FSU might find bodies at DE, but will have average starters and very little experience without getting Jenkins back (I assume Werner is gone, but believe Jenkins comes back).
IMHO, like you, I think DE position is critical for next years chances. Best case depth chart is this:
1st Jenkins, Hicks
2nd MEJ, Newberry
3rd Casher, JUCO
Bellamy isn't ready to play as a true freshman. Casher is the most likely to make a bigger jump on that depth chart IMHO. I have not been impressed with Newberry, but he is young.
My biggest concern is the extremely weak DE recruiting. FSU is counting on one JUCO who hasn't committed yet and we don't seem to have a decent plan B.
Bellamy is nice, but not ready to play right away and still looking around. Again, no decent plan B after him.
This is the one position FSU can offer playing time and it might be the weakest board for FSU in recruiting. FSU can't afford to miss on any of these kids because plan B is a huge drop....and honestly, plan A isn't exactly 5 star kids.
Hoping for Hicks and Jenkins to anchor this unit next year.
Absolutely no way Hicks starts at DE next year. MEJ is going to be really good. Hicks is depth.
LOL, wut? Warchant-esque post.
1st - Jenkins, Werner (if both come back)
2nd - Edwards, Z'Darius
3rd - Newberry, Casher
4th - Hicks, Bellamy
There's a reason why they moved Hicks to TE.
Wat I was saying is that stars ain't everything, coaches will determine who is best fit to win.
There is actually data supporting that teams that win in have the star power. Sure, the occasional 3* turns into Bjoern Werner or Ed Reed, but overall teams that win have better recruiting rankings.
Think recruiting rankings donre wrong. They absolutely do matter, and Matt Hinton shows you why.
Chief, Hicks is a solid DE. He isn't a starter IMO, but a good #2. he moved to TE because we had 3 great de's and we signed basically two 5* prospects. And our TE blocking last year was abysmal.
If we don't get the JC kid and if both Werner and bjenk go pro, I can see Edwards and Casher starting next year. Backed up by Newberry and Hicks. And having freaks like Timmy and Demonte in the middle, eases the double teams on the edge and takes the pressure off the soph's. Think about how much physically better NOL and Wilder(mentally) are in year two.
But I expect one of Werner, Jenkns and Smith and very possibly two. Then you could think about leaving Hicks at TE.
