i based my opinion on what i've heard from players and people who've seen the team practice and have a much different view of the qb battle than what Nashnole posted.
it was said that Winston was easily the best qb talent on the team this year, making throws no one else could. including EJ. Coker's ability was also highly praised, but it was said that he really struggled with the play book and hasn't responded well to the harsh way Jimbo coaches a lot of the time. i believe one of the academic aids for the players was quoted as saying, "Jacob is a sweetie, but bless his heart...", and went on to talk about his intelligence a little.
my post came off a little harsh in reference to Trickett (drinks got the best of me last night). he's got ability, and a gunslinger's mentality. he knows the playbook and he's got the most game experience. but, just from what i've heard from people who seem to know, he's not Jameis or Jacob back there. he's very slight and he's not going to be a threat to beat you with his legs at all. and if you know Jimbo, you know he likes to involve the qb in the run game. now he may very well win the job. and i'm all for the best qb taking the reigns. but i don't think Jimbo and co. recruited Jacob or Jameis (especially) with the idea of having them ride the pine for 2-3 years. last year was a perfect example of how young, freshman qbs, with big time talent can come in and lead teams to great seasons.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion. this is what message boards are for, discussing this stuff. it's just mine that we need to move on to one of Coker or Winston.
"Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
I really hope we decide to take on the growing pains of a freshman and take the chance on Winston, kind of like Notre Dame did with Golson.
"A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt. "
Sorry man, I wasn't looking to debate... I've read plenty about Clint putting on weight... and I've argued on his behalf many times...
I'm just saying, his lean body mass can radically changed at his whim... it really shouldn't be a concern or relevant to the discussion.
If for some reason his lean muscle mass limits his career, it's a very simple problem to fix. I'm sure we'd all like to pretend we are high-and-mighty and above it, but in reality, if a million dollar NFL contract was on the line, I know I'd do whatever it took (that didn't physically harm me)...
The absolute worse thing to happen IMO.
If they are equal you go with the younger one. If two players are equal in ability why would you give it to a person with a year to play. Instead of a person with 3-4 years to play and improve. Reps are very important at QB and giving FSU's next QB a year head start instead of a outgoing quarterback his swan song is crucial for our future success IF they are EQUAL.
- CT has two years left.
- No one has said they are equal, in fact the exact opposite has been said.
Would like to see Coker or JW win the job
" If it is close, i still see them playing Clint in the opening day away game @Pitt if thats the case."
Second issue not thinking straight today
I really don't care who wins, because I root for all of our players. I hope they all look great. It is pretty obvious most people are essentially rooting for CT to fail.
That being said, CT's strengths are not limited to simply "knowing the playbook" and my expectation is that if none of the other QB's can do anything unworldly, then Trickett will start. EJ's failure at FSU was his inability to play consistent, we never knew what we were going to get. Trickett appears to be the opposite, so if Jimbo is going to take a shot on someone not quite as consistent at CT, then that person better be doing something unreal. Which is possible. I am just saying Jimbo is not going to start anyone on "potential."
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more serious than that."
The only place you are going to hear about Coker's lack of intelligence is on this board. Really that is laughable. He has had one spring, and there is some truth to not being on the same page with Jimbo. One of the GA's did say he took Jimbo wrong, but that is over now. You can debate ability all you want, that to depends on who you talk to. I guess you will have to wait and see. The competition is going to be very good for FSU.
I didn't get my info on Coker from this board. Idk the kid personally, just passing along what was said is all. It would contrast what was said about him when he got his offer in camp a couple years back, "he was very impressive to Jimbo on the whiteboard." but a couple people have mentioned it now. i'm sure like most things it's somewhere in between. and he's had more than one spring. he's had a summer, a fall season, a spring, a summer, and a fall season.
i'm a Coker fan. i think he could be a big time qb. i'm hopeful it will be one of him or Jameis. but ultimately, like everyone, i hope the best man for the job wins.
The Future is Now.
To be clear this is NOT what i would do. I would go with the person that they think is the QB of the future. To me, it's not Clint.
Forever, don't know if you downvoted me, but I sure didn't mean any harm or criticism.
I got downvoted too. It is forbidden to have an opinion that Clint is not our best option to some
GO NOLES! / SCALP EM!
That is why you shouldn't care about down votes, lol yesterday I made a troll post on the UM board and got 30 down-votes. Made me laugh that people actually care about them.
I didn't. Really wish it would out them... at least let us see who these snaky lurkers are!

Cokers size really intrigues me!! He would be my pick also! He should get first shot
Clint hasn't shown me all that much in his limited duty. Not impressed. Coker is a question mark. Love his measurables! I know QB is the thinking man's position, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to read a defense, go through your progressions, and throw the ball to the open man. That said, JW is the future, and the future is now. HE is Jimbo's man, and unless he falls flat on his face in the spring and summer, he's our starter on day one.

How do you judge two players we know nothing about? How do you compare them with each other, especially? For instance, who is better? Pender or Green? Are either of them better than, say, Freeman?
What exactly were you doing during the Oklahoma and Clemson game when he was a freshman? In light of what he did, that statement is the most misguided thing I've ever seen you type on here. He threw for 300 yards in his first game as a starter, EJ didn't manage that until when?
Give me either coker or winston
Trickett starting only handicaps our offense
Against 2011 Clemson? The team that gave up 50 to Maryland and 70 to WVU that year and only 23 to Trickett? EJ threw for 400+ and ran for another 100+ vs them when they were improved some on D in 2012.
