I tend to believe that Jimbo will start Trickett and one of Coker or Winston will play a bunch early in the year. If we struggle at all I could see a much quicker change than in the past. Also, Trickett is still very thin, which might mean more prone to injury.
The same people were dying for EJ to replace CP. Someday there will be people dying for Winston's backup to replace him.
It's bizarre out of context, but all we really want is a Cam Newton situation where a guy carries the team to a NC win. The guy who has the potential to do that will always get the vote over a guy who's started a game where we lost. Also, the only potential we can evaluate is physical, as we don't know when a QB doesn't know the play - so we'll always be pulling for the most athletic guy.
I'm guessing (scratch that, hoping) people were downvoting what they thought was your opinion. I actually upvoted you, because I appreciated you passing on what you'd heard - which is always awesome, even if the content isn't what I want to hear.
Thanks. What I hear what does not always make me happy let me tell you. I want the best QB on the field who gives us a chance to win every game of course. I know I'm not versant in the details of QB play, but each of our 4 men has skill set that differs from others. They are ALL good. I believe Winston has the chops, just perhaps needs a bit of seasoning FROM WHAT I HEAR that's all. Heck. I would love for him to take us all the way and follow in Chollie's footsteps and win the Heisman along with an MNC. Gimme! I want to brag to my Bammer clients someday, sooner is better!
What is this based on? I was told at the end of the season that Winston had played extremely well in practice and had a legit chance to start this year. Not saying he will, but what gives you that impression about JW and SG? How can anyone really have an opinion on our freshmen QB's who have never played a down, two months before they've even played their first spring?
*my bad Nash, did not see your other post. I heard this from one of the GA's, so who knows who to believe. Players are not always the best at evaluating talent or readiness (KB #1 overall in the spring game last year, for example...)

If Trickett starts, then I'm convinced Jimbo just does not want to pull his best friends son. There is no way the less talented player should start at FSU. Winston and Coker have the frame to be elite. I personally want to see Winston just due to his run/throw ability and upside. Coker looks like a beast too. We just watched a RS Freshman win the Heisman. Give the talent the ball and let them do what they do.
GO NOLES! / SCALP EM!
Not a problem. I realize I should have cited my source with my first post in this thread. Didn't, and pay the iron price in the way of red arrows. It's all on me.
I am as staunch an FSU fan as anyone. I truly want us to win it all every year. However, the human element does creep in, and young men develop at different paces. Any of these kids could take us there. Perhaps not everyone of them RIGHT NOW.
One thing is for sure. We do have strength and depth at this position. All we need is for each to get some reps. Too bad there is only one ball allowed on the field at a time!
OR, those guys are what many think they are, but Clint is better than you think he is?
I really don't think "knowing the playbook" will be all that important in the competition. The ability to see the field will be. None of us have any clue who can see the field better than the others.
I actually think a lot of Trickett and believe he will flirt with 190 this year so there's no worst case scenario for me. I think secretly I want Coker to just take over and be great.
I was never one of those people that wanted Clint to replace EJ and I support Winston or Coker for the starting job.
Did you want EJ to replace CP?
I think Trickett starts as I suspect he is by far our best QB right now.
Christo omnino nihil praeponere
I bring up the playbook because I think the mental aspects of playing QB are more important than the athletic ones (beyond being able to throw a decent ball, which CT does). The truly elite athletes (Cam, VY) are exceptions, obviously.
The weight thing is big in terms of him holding up. And what people don't seem to remember is that he was diagnosed as a celiac only before the 2011 season. He gained 15 pounds from the 2011 season to before the 2012 season. That's a pretty good amount. 10 more is not out of the question.
The Trickett we saw in relief in 2011 is NOT the current Trickett. He should have more zip on the ball (practice reports said that...he was making out throws he couldn't in the past) and he should also understand the playbook a lot more. Limited duty in 2012 shouldn't say much because he didn't play in any meaningful situations.
I sound like the biggest Trickett apologist ever at this point, but I really think he's unfairly criticized on this board. I could see Coker or Winston taking over sometime during the season, but I highly, highly doubt either starts the season as QB unless he completely obliterates the competition over the summer.
I evened you out Nash.
"I never knew I had a foot until I noticed it was on your neck"
He can order stuff off the internet.... which is more effective than steroids, safer for his body, and undetectable through drug tests.
The days of genetic limitations are over. Welcome to the 21st century.
$100 bet? You take Trickett and I'll take the field.
I do not believe that our starting QB will Clint Trickett.

That's NOT TRUE. Celiac means he cannot eat gluten because essentially his body doesn't absorb it and he craps it all back out. A good friend of mine in college suffered from the same problem.
You can anything without gluten. It can still be fatty. You can eat all meat unless breaded with gluten. Nuts. You can't drink beer haha.
This is a lot more common than you think. The paleo diet is getting somewhat popular with people and that is a gluten-free diet. Some athletes use it.
The key to CT is that they finally caught what it was. They were probably feeding him a lot of high-calorie food WITH gluten that he didn't gain from at all.
Small sample size but Trickett came in for EJ for one series in the 4th quarter vs. UF and produced a three-and-out when the defense needed a breather in the worst way.
FSU Football. Making cool the new swag since 2013.
While I agree, experience is very overrated imo!!! His ability to be successful will depend on our Oline's ability to protect him. I expect a lot of batted down balls and sacks.
On the other hand, having a QB that is exteremly doubted can make him exteremly motivated. I love an underdog ;)
I have talked to players and GA's. They have their favorites and they usually preface their confidence in a player with an if. One thing for sure the competition is going to be a good thing for FSU. 4th qt half drills started last week, with coaches involved. I think the players are excited about the new coaches. I think they are also going to be glad when 4th qt drills end, haha.
The success of any player depends in a large part on the success of others. QB's need the line to protect them and receivers to get open and catch the ball. It greatly aids QB's when the team has a strong running game.
Running backs need a line and receivers to block for them, and it greatly aids them to have a QB and receivers with the ability to complete the deep ball.
Receivers need the line to protect the QB, and the QB to get them the ball.
All players are dependent on others. Why would that vary for any of our quarterbacks?
This is how i see it playing out.......
Trickett will be given ample opportunities to show hes the man, given his priors when EJ was hurt as a freshman, and his 3+ years in the system. The only way i see him being beaten out is if Coker or Jameis are THAT good, and give Jimbo no choice. If it is close, i still see them playing Clint in the opening day away game @Pitt if thats the case. A general progression towards one of the other two if he struggles could then happen down the line im sure.
