I don't know that UF was the better team, either. We turned the ball over 5 times. Twice they scored on the first play off of those turnovers. I don't agree that they were better prepared, just that they held onto the ball better. Also, I don't think we made a good enough in-game adjustment to counter their heavy offensive sets.
If we're going to blame him for those losses, we have to credit him for all the other wins. A head coach getting credit for 11 wins in a season is freaking awesome.
Isn't that better prepared? Turnovers has been an ongoing issue. Stoops d doesn't force a bunch. Our o gives up a bunch. Uf's d had forced a bunch. Their o had given up a bunch lately. Our offense, despite playing at home, continued the trend. Theirs didn't. They were more focused and better prepared.
It means we didn't make good in-game adjustments.
As for turnovers, EJ made a bunch at the end of the year. He didn't for quite a bit of the year. Seems to me that he struggled at the end of the year. Was he suddenly coached differently?
Wouldn't making adjustments in-game be part of preparation?
No, defenses at the end of the year were better than the beginning and Jimbo's offense has issues playing against better defenses which puts ej in positions where he's trying to do too much which leads to more turnovers. Simple.
No. That doesn't have anything to do with preparation.
And doesn't every offense have issues against better defenses? Isn't that what makes them better defenses? The fact that offenses have less success?
We beat 3 d1 teams with winning records, and two of those teams were 7-5. Sorry 11 wins is not freaking awesome given the aforementioned schedule.
Now we're complaining about the schedule again. 11 wins. ACC champions (hey, we can only win the conference we're in). BCS bowl berth. Improving from the year before. Only thing that we're not accomplishing is a NC, and I don't think anyone on here predicted that before the year.
If you're not happy, stop giving money to the school and go root for someone else.. It's not hard.. No one gives a damn if you like Jimbo or not. He is our coach and will be our coach for a long time. I'm happy about that. I don't care if every team we beat had losing records. We can't control what they do. So you have a choice. Live with Jimbo or leave the camp....
Come on man. Of course being prepared to make in-game adjustments is part of preparation. Coaches come up with a game plan during the week. They also come up with various adjustments to that plan if it isn't working. You always have a plan b. And the really good coaches have a plan c and d.
Every offense doesn't have issues against the better defenses like ours does.
Jimbo, as offensive coordinator, was out coached against uf, gatech, and vatech to end the season. That doesn't make him terrible. It also doesn't make him awesome.
Angry much guy. Think I'll make sure to stick around these boards just to annoy you.
Actually, I was a fan long before Jimbo and I'll be one long after he's gone.
Making in-game adjustments is seeing what is happening and reacting to it. It's an instinct thing.
What offense performs better against good defenses than poor ones?
I thought our offense was very good against UF. We were able to break running backs free and get receivers open. We seemed very prepared for what they threw at us, and had answers. Same for Georgia Tech. We moved the ball at will until we started turning it over and making mistakes on the field. We scored 28 points against Virginia Tech.
Angry?? LOL... You make me laugh... Stick around. I love reading ignorant posts. Keep doing your thing kid....
I'm not complaining about the schedule. Just pointing out a fact. You call 11 wins awesome. I say 11 wins is better than the alternative but it's not awesome. We're really not that far apart except for the preparation thing.
I'm obviously not changing your mind and you aren't changing mine. Maybe agree to disagree, so I can get some work done.
Okay boy. I'll do mine and you yours.
Boy, huh.. That's cute.. Another internet tough guy...
Thank you I'll be here all week.
Back to your corners. No need to get restless with one another. I am not in favor of a raise being given but I thought B4P had an excellent, well thought out post that brings up some good points. A possible raise is every bit about image for FSU as it is for Fisher earning it with results.
Chris Nee of 247Sports.com. You can follow me on twitter @CNee247.
I agree. It's all about FSU.
Thanks Chris. And the point was missed by the people arguing against the results above. I am not suggesting he has completely earned it THIS year. I am suggesting, he did the ground work to get this program in position to be a big time job in today's environment. IE - the upgrades to the program and facilities, the upgrade to competitive coaching pay (can't believe it was just a few years back that Bowden was paying an assistant $90,000), the push (and believe he PUSHED) to get us out of this conference, the S&C upgrades to the point where we are state of the art (GPS units). All these things were necessary upgrades that make us competitive with any SEC program.
So what I am suggesting, is the last piece in coaching salary. Ideally, I'd like mid 3's. And that isn't for just Jimbo. It's for any HC hired moving forward. If we have to let Jimbo go, I want future HCs feeling this is a top job. IE - we offer a fertile recruiting base, incredible facilities, and pay amongst the nations elite.
I am sorry, the day we fall outside the top 20 (which is what would have happened if Jimbo didn't receive a raise this off-season), is the day we are suggesting that we aren't a top 20 program to prospective coaches. And the worst part, we expect near perfection (12-2), just to earn a top 20 salary.
That path leads to a slippery slope of permanent mediocrity.

Look I'm fine with giving the raise and the extension, especially after considering Bowden's argument for it. I was having a bit of fun with hatiannole after he told me to find another team which is this particular posters go to response if someone has a different pov.
I can see where people like fsufelip are coming from. I don't think they should stop being a fan b/c their pov is different than mine. In fact we need people to have different pov so there's something to talk about. We just disagree a bit on the perception of our season. No big deal.
And to your point, for me, it's not about perception of the season. It's about perception of the program TODAY. Where the program started when Bowden left, and where we measure up today? I think Fisher has done the things needed to get us to the level. I feel we are there. Our expectations are back to being equal with the SEC elite.
Therefore, I think this job needs to have a salary to match. Jimbo will succeed or fail in those circumstances. But offering a top 20 or less salary to be the HC at FSU? Sorry, to me it's building a fighter jet, and asking that person to take a commercial pilots salary. We're better than that.
Said another way, putting it in more tangible experiences for people. You work in medical sales. You have a great product. However, the competitors are paying 20% more in base salary. Sure, you can sell the crap out of your product, but the more prestigious companies pay 20-30% more in base salary. What do most people do in this scenario? They leave. Everytime. I'm in a different sales industry, in the same circumstances, and I left. Along with 3/4 of my sales team. At some point, it just gets insulting.
If he wins the Bowl he should get a raise. I guess I disagree with you. Winning the ACC and a BCS Bowl is something we have not had to much of around here in a while. He has this program moving up. He has done a good job.
13 years since they both happened.
Good assesment. I'm glad to see someone gets it.
