ESPN NFL Draft Analyst Mel Kiper compared Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner to St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long. Agree or disagree?
Chris Nee of 247Sports.com. You can follow me on twitter @CNee247.
well hey, they're both white
I was thinking back on Bjoerns time here and man, he may be the best/most dominant player we've had since Peter Warrick.
Kenny Powers: "A true champion will do whatever it takes to rise above. Because surrender is death, and death is for pussies."
honestly though it seems like a pretty good comparison
Disagree I think he compares better to a JJ Watt
Chris was a long lanky player while Bjorn is shorter and stocky. The only comparisions I see with them is that the played in the ACC, won the conference defensive player of the year and they are white other than that Long was better overall in college.
I said this back in the beginning the year when the Rams were in Prime Time. Kiper must read the boards
Werner weighs 265 and uses the speed rush a lot. Watt is 295 and uses power and technical moves to rush the passer. They don't even play the same position
Other than being white and good, that's an awful comparison.
Long is a pretty good comparison to werner. They are both complete prototype 43 defensive ends
Watt is a prototype 34 defensive end.
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more serious than that."
I was looking more at passes defend and motor. Long just doesn't seem like a good comparison to me Watt from your stance isn't either but I agree with what your saying.

I made this comparison a year ago but Werner reminds me of Howie Long. Howie is in the HOF because he was heady and disruptive. Werner is very similar. His stats don't always reflect his impact.
If he puts on weight and plays in the 280 range, I could see him having a Shaun Ellis type career
Not guilty y'all got to feel me
The only comparison to JJ Watt are the pass deflections.
Werner is white and ellis is black. Dont you know you can only compare within race?
but seriously ellis played a lot of 3-4 toward the end of his career. I think Werner projects better to be a jared allen type. Very high Motor and will get lots of sacks
He plays like Jared Allen nonstop motor. Not because he is white but because of their play. That and Mel has bad hair and is mildly handicapped.

Reminds me more of Howie than Chris.
Allen is a good comparison. A really good defensive end is a really HUGE pain in the butt and both of those guys fit that description.

The Jared Allen motor post got me. I couldnt think of other white DEs I was laughing so hard.

A young Kyle Vanden Bosch
Long isnt a bad comparison. and JJ watt isnt too far off if you look at their college careers. i actually always thought of werner as a smaller JJ watt. obviously he doesnt have the same power but he played at 275 last year and watt was around 275 in his last college year. both have the same motor and the same mental approach to the game. both are very heady players and have great instincts
similar stat lines as well
JJ watt (2010) 62 tackle 7sack 2FF 1INT
werner (2011) 40tackle 7sack 1FF 1INT

FSU Ambassador to the masses
I don't think Werner plays with the reckless abandon of Jared Allen.
Athletically and size wise he is most similar to Chris Long, but I just watched some tape of Long in college and I actually think Werner is more technically sound.
Watt and Werner are not the same type DE. I think I compared him to Chris Long in a previous thread, or at least was thinking it.
Both are "complete" type DEs. Can rush the passer very well (not just a speed rush...has an arsenal of moves), reasonably stout vs. the run, VERY athletic. The Patriots were looking at Long as a possible 3-4 OLB, despite his size. Werner has the athleticism to do so.
Werner is not a 3-4 DE like Watt is. I do think Watt has the capability of playing 4-3 DE, as well, but he's best at what he's doing.
