Great topic. As WarDog said this will be an issue with more parents than players. I'm black with a 3 daughter's one in college one in high school and one in middle school. Kids just don't see color as much as their parents do. They listen to the same music, hang in the same circles and become more tolerant by the graduating class. Not just black and white but religion and sexual preference. It's not cool to be exclusive. I live in a suburb of Charlotte which is predominantly white but go to church in area which can be called seedy at best. The only difference in the kids is opportunity, they have the same interests, the same goals. Parents will be more likely to look for diversity on staff. The primary recruiter can be whiter than wonder bread, but they probably want to see some one of color on the staff. Ultimately, many of these kids are coming from single parent homes being raised by their mothers. Most of these moms want men of strong moral character taking care of their sons and helping them become men. With that being said it certainly doesn't hurt to have a couple of black coaches to help persuade certain parents that a particular university is the place for their child.
Look at Tyrone Willingam. not white, could not recruit a lick. If Tenn wins kids will come. If they don't, kids won't come to tenn.
Willingham actually had some players. Every good player from the Weiss era was a Willingham recruit. I think Tyrone just wasn't as quick with the player development as some coaches, and at the time it was easier to get players who flew under the radar of recruiting sites but could actually ball.
Look at what he brought into Wasington and tell me he can recruit., he can't. Very good x's and o's coach. Someone in a coma can recruit at ND
