First let me say there are those on this board that know infinitely more than I do in regards to recruiting and the team in general so if this opinion of mine is off, please correct me.
It seems that reading the RB posts on the board that there is a lot of nervous energy that the backs we could sign this year might not have the elite 5 star talent as a Cook or Yearby and therefore we are really struggling in recruiting but wasn't Mario Pender a 5 star back? Wasn't he thought of as a stud? If so, aren't we are looking at possibly having that elite back waiting in the wings already, and 2015 might be the year to nail down that 5 star stud.
Maybe my logic is flawed, thoughts?
Got to have something to complain about though.
While it would be great to hit on a big time recruit at RB, I kind of have been looking at it the same way as you have. Pender and Ryan Green were both big time stud recruits and both are FR (RS in Pender's case). It would be nice to get a big time back but taking a few quality depth guys this class shouldn't kill us.
Ryan green would have likely been a five star had he not been injured last season
Wilder, green and Lender are all top-100 talents. Our RB position is just one man short, IMO. I think we can afford to take in a few larger backs this year without taking an elite pack as long as we grab one next year. We need 2 bigger backs in this class as Abrams is our last of that crop.
Ryan Greens no bum either.... I think Freeman and Wilder return for their senior years anyway... We are in good shape at RB in the future IMO.
When other schools/competitors are signing 5 star talent at a position and we're not, fans will naturally start to question why. Fans tend to have short memories, and the fact that we have signed serious talent to the position the last few years is quickly forgotten. The 'other guys' are getting talent right now, today. Nevermind who we've signed the last few years, the other school got so-and-so today...so what's up...!?!?
When you take a step back and look at recruiting big-picture you begin to see we're out there getting our share of talent and actually are out-performing most. But, its easy for fans to lose sight of the big-picture view of recruiting...it's very much 'who did you sign today, right now'.
Plus, don't we lead for two top-200 2015 RBs, Patrick and Hidgon?
Vickers, Harrell and one more will be a good group. No 5 stars but very very good backs. Plus pender and green are 5 star talents.
2015 Scarlett is a 5 star, Patrick could be a 5 or at least a top 60 player, and higdon is a high 4 star stud. Kerryon is a 4 star RB and a high 4 star safety. We looks great with the latter 3 and okay for Scarlett.
Lets not worry about RB at all. We still could land a stud this year also. Scott, cook, etc....
Let's also not forget Harris. He could be can option at some point
I don't think Wilder returns. He's got a kid, doesn't like school and with Pender stealing some carries this year I think he's gone. I do think Freeman sticks around though.
Ryan Green is elite
Thanks for all the responses, sounds like my thought about Pender was agreed with. Adding Ryan Green to the equation simply adds credibility to the thought that stressing over nabbing a 5 star stud this year isn't really worth it because there isn't an issue. Would it be a sweet luxury to add a Cook, absolutely yes, but a necessity or something that messes FSU up if they don't land a RB like him? I don't see it.
Tyreek Hill says hello OP... Lol
Where does Wilder get drafted? Not saying I disagree, I just don't think Wilder goes in the top 3 rounds unless he shows major improvement..
I don't think it matters to him if it's the first or third. He's doing it for his family.
He's at the very least a 3rd round talent.

Pender is a stud, beast, baller...ummm, can't think of anymore adjectives. He good, we good. You can insert Green instead of Pender in the previous sentence.
I don't think he's a third rounder right now. Maybe if he improves a lot. He's a power runner but he's not as big as most NFL power backs. He also runs upright, and his vision is questionable.
His biggest plus is he's a freak athlete, but I don't know if that really translates to him being an NFL RB.
Do you know this for a fact or are you just speculating?
Unless he has a horrible year or something awful happens, he's gone. Junior year is usually a College RB's money year. Also if you read his twitter, you'd know where his mindset is at.
Btw, a lot of draftniks have him slated as their too RB on the board. Most have him going on first 3 rounds.
