Think he would be a hell of a hire. Younger guy, top defense in USCe w/ less talent than at FSU, SEC experience so knows how to prepare for big games, can recruit, esp in Atlanta area (we need stronger presence in GA) to complement Coley in SoFL and Craig in AL. We need to spend some money to get him. Not sure he'll want to leave USCe, which is a good position.
Can't be terrible at all. He had the 12th ranked defense in the nation and less talent than we have here. Minus clowney Los has more talent than anyone on that team. What scheme does he run? Same as Ellis?
His defenses force turnovers. I almost passed out just from that. But yeah, mid forty year old dude who's still rising likely and yet in his prime. Heard he is a good recruiter.
FSU is an UNQUESTIONED step up from USCe.
Short resume as a DC and more than likely a pipe dream from a financial stand point.
I have no desire to know what "excites" you. I think it would be a good hire tho.
Makes less than Stoops. FSU's budget was 10% higher than USC's. If they want to pay the money, they can. But FSU doesn't seem to get into those bidding wars, which I appreciate.

Agreed and he's not proven enough imo to warrant throwing 750k at but I still think the cocks would match any offer that's not sky high.
Riddle me this: if Ward, then why the hell not Elliot?
Yep. I think we can find a similar guy for much less. We don't need budget problems like Tennessee and Auburn reported. These inflated salaries and constant buy-outs from these programs are going to collapse programs if they don't spend wisely. Chizick is making 2 million a year still.
He's never been a DC
Randy Shannon. His resume pretty much trumps Elliot and Ward's combined... and at a baggage discount.
You can probably argue without the baggage, he trumps Ellis Johnson (our initial target)... Seems like it's worth the risk
The entire time he was here... Miami's defense was STOUT... I sat in Doak and watched our championship hopes fade because of this bastard... This dude knows how to go to war and get his players crunk.

Just posted in the other thread that a close friend knows him and said he is a hard nosed coach who can recruit like hell and the players love him. Said we would be more than lucky to get him. My new top target. Let's go Jimbo! Lock em up.
Na man. Jimbo's horrible offense (according to some) destroys Randy's D. He cant be any good.
Enough with Randy Shannon. Can you imagine the conspiracy theories that posters (I would probably be one of them) would post on this board if UM is out scoring FSU in next year's game with RS as DC.
No way we get Ward
What makes anyone think the USCe has less talent than FSU on defense? They have #1 picks as corners, SOLID DL and very good LB"s that know how to keep assignments and make tackles.
Riddle me this: how do you insinuate they have comparable resumes?
Of all the names that have surfaced on the hot board, this one excites me the most. Think he would be a perfect fit.
However, unless he and spurrier don't get along; I don't see him coming for cheap b/c SCar ain't a bad gig (right now). But like you mentioned in other posts I don't think they would go crazy like auburn in a bidding war (we don't need to either)
I would have no problem with him making around 700-750k here. If stoops stayed I think he would be in line for a raise as well.
For those saying we should go the cheaper route and find an "up & comer", I don't think we are going to strike gold every time we do that. I would have no gripes about FSU going after hin hard and making him turn us down.
I don't see any way we get Ward. I think we will see someone who nobody is talking about, possibly after the o-bowl (NFL?)
IMO we can't wait that long to make the hire.
Anyone think Saban recommended him (along with Ellis)?
I am pretty sure he did.
Ward played at Alabama and would help in recruiting there too. May be just a mirage, but I would love Ward. Also, as much as some do not want to admit it, FSU is a promotion Eden and would help propel Ward's name--much like what happened with Stoops. We can use that to our advantage, ya know. At South Carolina, he would be in the shadows of SOS.
I like it a lot but could it just be a Sexton type situation? Trying to get a raise by getting his name out? Too be fair he is in a spot (the SEC) where he's as high as he can go right now being a DC before becoming a head guy. Just a thought.
SGT. Brody's wife from Homeland excites me.
