I hear a lot of people throwing coach Hamilton under the bus lately.
Am I the only person content with us making the NCAA tournament 3 out of 4 years? Ketucky and North Carolina are fighting tooth and nail just to hang on and make the tournament this year.
Can we do better? Historically, no... this is as good as I ever remember it being.
I'm absolutely content with the job he's done, he's made us relevant. If we get Andrew Wiggins I'll give him a lifetime contract.
4 years in a row...off year with this team, for sure.
This was a rebuilding year. Some people on this board wouldn't accept that at the beginning of the year.
I often want to gouge my eyes out when watching the offense but everyone should remember how horrible the program was when he took over.
I for one am very happy with coach Ham. He runs a solid program, considering FSU is a football school. Most of the people constantly complaining haven't even been to a game other than Duke or UNC. FSU is lucky to have him, IMO.
I take personal offense when people suggest he be fired.
We won the freaking ACC last year.
You know, in BASKETBALL...winning it in football obviously doesn't matter, right?
The only problem I have with Hamilton is his style of play. When we're winning it's ugly but we're winning. When we're losing it's painful to sit through a game (I think it actually causes physical pain).
Having said that his style works well in college b/c there aren't many teams with multiple elite offensive players so if you play defense better than everyone else you give yourself a chance to win more often than not.
Hamilton isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future unless he retires or gets hired away (he's oldish so that seems doubtful now). I also can't imagine him radically changing much. If we get lucky and get Wiggins for a year Ham will have his shot at a very deep tourny run next year so long as one of the big guys can go from useless to serviceable between this year and next. Without Wiggins the NIT will be an achievement.
Kentucky and UNC also have National Championships in the last few years. I'm not really a Ham hater, but I am becoming more impatient with the offensive productivity. It's frustrating that we don't have a solid post player to go to. I can't really think of a skilled offensive post player in recent years. They just don't look natural down there. PG is the same thing. I know both are young, but I'm not all that sold on Bookert. Hope he proves me wrong7. With that said, I do think this team has a lot of potential next year . Especially if we land Wiggins. Lets just hope we peak at just the right time and somehow back our way into the tournament
My only problem with this is that we compare Hamilton to what we were before him instead of our recent performance, which was a similar justification for why Bowden stayed so long.
Not being irrational and saying one bad season should result in him being fired. For as long as Hamilton has been here we have yet to field a competent offense that doesn't revolve around one do it all player who just makes things happen on his own. Just like players are supposed to get better and evolve so are coaches. Because he started off as a defensive guru does not mean his offensive schemes should never get better. We accept that we were once a football school as justification why it's ok to keep him around. At one point we were an all girls school and that feeling kept Bowden around one year too many, making the level of success we had ascended to difficult to maintain or regain.
