Didn't Fisher bench a senior QB when he first got here? The OC always has options....
If there was a better option, he would have. He's already shown that, as you've pointed out.
That's probably true, I just think it falls back on Jimbo's biggest problem. Fear. Scared to call plays because a guy might get hurt, scared to attempt to block kicks because we might get a penalty, scared to give your All American kicker a chance to win a game for you because if he misses it will give the opposition a shorter field.. etc..etc.. you see where I'm going with this.
It's going to take me a while to get over not kicking that FG if you can't tell. Damn him...
Nope he got hurt running for the first down against Oklahoma.
Then why play football if you're constantly terrified of getting your players hurt?
You cannot be successful and live in fear like that (if that's what you're suggesting). Guys like Urban Meyer and Gene Chizik rode their dual threats to victory, and they stayed healthy.
You are suggesting that either EJ was scared of getting hurt, or JImbo was deviating from what was obviously best for the team in order to keep EJ healthy (for WHAT, I would ask...the draft? UF? ACCCG?).
Neither are acceptable. You do what you have to do to win.
To me it's not necessarily the play calling (though the WR screen to KB is about to make me puke) it's just that the offense goes SO DAMN COLD for horribly long stretches that it makes me quesiton whether he's coaching them up properly.
The stats on the offense are so misleading, and it makes people think we have a strong offense, when we don't. Whether it's execution or playcalling or something else, the buck stops with Jimbo.
Maryland scored 33 points against GT. With Petty at QB. Are you telling me that for all of EJ's mistakes, he's not better than Maryland's QB?
I apologize guys, I drank far too much during this game (to drown away my sorrow) and my tolerance for crappy coaching has evaporated.
You simply cannot ignore the amount of times Jimbo has taken a superior team (recruiting rankings) and underachieved vs. an inferior opponent (recruiting rankings)
The #3 team in the country (Georgia) beat the hell out of GT last week... 42-10 last week... and we found ourselves ourselves in a dog fight to win on the last drive...That is how far away we are from being relevant....
The College gameday staff was absolutely right about us.... We are SOFT. I truly feel sorry for the fans who allow themselves to go into next year expecting Fisher to finally figure everything out....The reality is, Fisher will be the first coach in history to utterly suck and underachieve for the first 3-years of his career, to have magically turned things around in the forth.
You are lying to yourself if you think this is plausible (or likely). In all due respect, we have are in the same place we were in 2004 at this point... Does 2005 really need to occur for you to be convinced?
Fisher improve things significantly, but he's reached his peak.

I think about this...but then I remember that Jimbo was the OC and the blame would've ultimately come down on Bobby.
Furthermore, EJ is HIS guy. 5 years. His guy. He'd look like a complete failure if he benched him.
EJ could've thrown 5 picks tonight. He wasn't coming out of the game.
Count me among those who say, "if he gets a real OC (and yes, it can be Coley), he can win national titles as a HC."
So for me, hope is alive. I'm enjoying the coaching soap opera, because I have hope it will bring exactly this outcome about.
FSUFanForever says: "The reality is, Fisher will be the first coach in history to utterly suck and underachieve for the first 3-years of his career, to have magically turned things around in the forth. "
Jimbo's 3 years: 10-4, 9-4, 11-2
- I've heard you say some intelligent things before---this was not one of them. Utterly suck? Auburn "utterly sucks." Maryland "utterly sucks." Boston College "utterly sucks." He has his issues, but if you think 10-4, 9-4, 11-2 "utterly suck," you have not been watching the Noles for very long. 7-6 utterly sucked. 0-11 utterly sucked.
Get some perspective please.
His play calling isn't always perfect but it is far from what you insinuate it is.... again the 2nd half was also full of turnovers... that is what kept GT in it... not the play calling.... I mean we either run it too much and don't pass enough, or throw too much and don't run enough... for the sake of saying, say we run those plays again early in the second half and turn it over... then it would be why didn't Jimbo pass it... the last turnover was a good call, a good throw but a terrible effort by KB... the fumble was EJ again trying to do too much instead of just throwing it away.... not the play calling.... it isn't always a bad call...
Coaches make mistakes. That's nothing new. I'm sure he'd like that back. Same way Saban would like back the end of the first half. And on and on and on...
Amen, but in this case I'm not sure if it's a mistake or just his tendencies. It might be difficult for him to change something like that, but I still pray he does.
You are correct. And it will happen eventually.
Don't get caught up in the complex details into which specific unit is failing. In, every (frustrating) game the responsibility is dynamic... rotating between all 3 of them.. Offensive line (fail), QB (fail), and Play calling (fail) ... it doesn't take much to throw a really a good unit into chaos.
There is only one person who is responsible for overseeing all of them and he has to be held accountable.... The level of ineptitude between those 3 components of the game have never been this crappy on a coach who later went on to prove themselves to be great.
Jimbo does not have the personality (foundation) to be a great coach here.
I've watch enough football in my lifetime to know when we have NORV vs. when we have someone is capable of stepping back and preventing their ego from sinking the team.
It's going to take a miracle for Jimbo to let go of his ego, and let this team get to where they need to be. If he does it, he will be known as one of the greatest coach of all time. If he fails, he will be nothing more than a failed footnote on wikipedia.
Either way, the choice is his.... 4 or 5 losses next year.... and he is done..
If he lands us at 12-2, I will be the first on here to swallow my pride and admit he has us heading in the right direction.
I expect several losses next year... around 4.
If Jimbo manages better I will eat crow and hope someone wiull save this thread so I can remind myself.
Manages what better?
If he manages to win next year and not lose 3-4 I will eat crow is what I meant.
Josh can we start a forum just for Jimbo complainers?
Only if he gets fired from AU or UT.
