I do not disagree with this.
How were those defenses that we've beaten up on? I'll save you the time... up to VTech we played the 118th best slate of defenses based on advanced metrics.
Why did we wait until being down at the end of the game to run up the gut? Why do we continue to ask EJ to do things he does not do well such as the zone read or sitting back and going through progressions?
Nobody doubts that Jimbo is a good head man, but he clearly needs to delegate playcalling duties
We bring it up because we look at the actual game and not the outcome. This team would be 6-3 in the Big 12, Pac 10, and SEC.
We played like I expected we would play. It was hard for us to find the endzone all game. We have got to stop these silly turnovers and Jimbo needs to learn how to prepare his team and himself for these road games. We got lucky tonight, but it's better to be lucky than good sometimes.
As far as the O Line goes. It's hard to block 7 guys with 5. VA Tech blitzed all game and we just didnt have enough guys to pick em up. I thought pass pro was much better than our running game. EJ has got to learn to throw the ball away or identify the blitz, plain and simple.
I thought our D did very well aside from a couple of deep balls we got beat on. We contained Logan Thomas and made him beat us throwing the ball. I wish our db's were more aggressive and played bump and run more often than zone. It gives the dline more time to affect the play and it makes it much harder to complete passes.
Overall, it was a sloppy win, but better a win than another close loss like NC State. We stepped up when we had to and got the job done. Now lets go beat uf and win the ACC Championship and head to the Orange Bowl to play whoever.
For me -- it sharpens rationality, judgement, and observation.
I love it when coaches fool me with outside the box thinking.... I love Bellichek.... I love to watch Chip Kelley take a team with half the amount of NFL level talent USC has and watch him mentally bend over Lane Kiffin.
That's why this team is so damn painful to watch. We run a lot of the same plays that Oregon does... .they have more discipline, move at a much faster pace, and has a coach who makes decisions far quicker than ours.
Meanwhile, our offense consistently underachieves vs. double-digit dogs,in his 6th years as OC. And a large delusional fan base that defends him based on evidence compiled against the worst defenses in the game.... while ignoring the systematic evidence presented throughout his entire 3-year coaching tenure.

I get all that. I'm completely hooked on FSU football. I live and die on every play, as does everyone else.
Just with the perspective I've acquired, all this bitching and moaning is completely and utterly ridiculous.
Here's the question - Do you think Fisher could do 50% of what Kelly does?
I don't believe he thinks quickly enough on his feet.
It's nothing to be ashamed of, I can't make consistently good split second decisions under pressure either.
But if I was him, I would have already admitted my weaknesses and surrounded myself with people who could. Give me a actuary (to avoid tendencies and exploit other teams tendencies) and someone who scored a 50 on the wonderlic and loves football... and I could come damn close to replicating it.

yeah but UF is 8-1 and has a worse offense

Three bye weeks in Fisher's career and his record is 1-2 with the lone win being ugly as hell. How do you suck so bad coming off a bye? How do we look so ill-prepared for an opponent with that extra time? VT didn't even have a concurrent bye when we did.
Why is it that we SUCK on the road?
WTF was with Fisher's playcalling? We couldn't run the ball for crap but we kept doing play-action and allowing the blitzes to get us?
Why was it we moved the ball well when we went uptempo but didn't play uptempo aside from those few drives?
I don't care that Manuel doesn't like to run, it's a huge part of his skillset and adds an incredibly useful dimension to our offense. Call the QB runs, Fisher!
We need a freaking OC and one that has actually called plays before. If that means Coley has to find a position at some other school than so be it. An OC is a pretty damn important position and we will still have other quality recruiters on staff.
This is year 3 for Fisher and I think it's fair to say this is probably who he is. It's not good enough given our goals but it's too good to get rid of. He is our Richt. Crap.
Manuel, you have poor pocket presence. You don't see the blitz pre-snap nearly as often as you should, once you see it you wait too long to react, you often try to avoid the rush instead of simply throwing it away and tonight - like last year - you created additional sacks that many QBs are able to avoid.
You used to be good on the option. I remember 2010 when you were 20 yards downfield before pitching it to Pryor in that Maryland game when he took it the final 40 or so yards for a touchdown. I had NEVER seen an option play with the pitch that far downfield. But you have lost either the ability or desire to be a good option QB. You can't or refuse to make the correct zone reads.
Gran, why do we NEVER try to block a punt, extra point or field goal? NEVER! Makes no sense. We have athletes on this team. Can't possibly that scared where you put a return on and run a FG fake defense every time.
I don't even know what to say about our punt returning issues.
Trickett, you actually get a pass, despite how poorly the OL played. VT blitzed on seemingly every play and Fisher did the OL no help in his playcalling. Manuel also didn't avoid the rush or even pick up on it very well. Still, that run blocking was weak sauce.
It's sad that going into this game I actually believed we had a better chance at beating top 10 UF than beating a 4-5 VT, but that's exactly how I felt. It's also sad that Fisher has given all of us fans so much reason to doubt him and to lack confidence in games we clearly are the better team.
Slow adapting to in-game circumstances.
Our losses look so similar (see: offensive line meltdowns, unable to run, failing to pickup blitzes) -- that it's hard to believe that Jimbo is still having trouble adjusting to this....
Every time it happens, he coaches like the first the time he's seen it. Inside handoffs for negative gains... over and over...
For christ sakes, take your playbook out and put an asterisk’s next to plays that roll the QB out and plays that get the ball out of his hands quickly...and only call these plays once your offensive line has proven it's not showing up.
The repetitive usage of inside handoffs during an OL meltdown was Jeff Bowden's signature -- and I'll be damn if Jimbo didn't live up to his predecessor last night. Why does it take us until half time to realize something isn't working?
Are you really so berift of knowledge of the English language that you have to revert of f-----g and s--t to explain your position on a given point? There is a Smack Board for functional filthiness that seems to exist for those who are unable to contain their baser instincts. This is also the board where kids, like my grandkids, come to exchange ideas with other Nole lovers without the necessity of reading trash words like you spew. You have some great ideas, many of which I agree, but your terminology leaves much to be desired.
GarGold - Resident Lurker
Do you believe that FSU would be 8-1 against UF's schedule? I don't think UF would be 8-1 against their schedule if they played it again.
Then get the fuck out and don't come back - and take your stinking money with you. There are improvements to be made and that's for sure, but how do you know he's not striving to make them. Answer is YOU don't. You don't like our coach? Too God Damned bad! YOU don't get to make the call on whether he stays or goes.
Jimbo Sucks, Trickett Sucks, EJ Sucks - your diatribe doesn't change. Too bad thousands of people - ALL more knowledgeable than YOU - know otherwise.
I repeat. Get the fuck out of here. You've got nothing we want or need.
Mods. If you feel you need to sit me over this for a while, I understand, Get Tore In.

I liked your whole " I hope the back wheel of a bus crushes your head" rant better. It felt more Nicholas Cage crazy.
This is more Rush Limbaugh crazy. Are you still hung over from Tuesday, good chap?
Naaaaaaah - I don't drink. I just have you receipted and filed you for the ass-clown jerk you are. You obviously don't like anything about the FSU Tackle Football Program. So............. Get the Fuck out of here, and take our invective and negativity with you. You won't be missed.
I have no problem with harm coming to you by the way.
Good bye then.
This is right on. Well said.
You're full of shit if you think Oregon has half the amount of NFL talent as USC.
Epic proportions FOS.
Three bye weeks with same personnel? NO.
I questioned the lack of downhill running, but that's hard to see on the field. OC needs to be up top.
You're undervaluing Coley, and totally off the mark. Again, OC in the box.
Manuel had some WTF moments, but got the job done, and some times it is hard to read anything when we break huddle with 10 sec left on play clock.
If you try and block a FG at end of game and you get a penalty, we lose as they run out the clock. Based on some decisions our players make, I wouldn't risk it either.
The OL did NOT play poorly. they had some break downs, but were out numbered almost all night. You must hit the quick route to punish the defense, if not, long night. Again, not on the OL.
VT was a top ranked team that had a bad year. Doesn't mean they have no talent. They played a phenomenal game, give credit where it's due.
It's sad some FSU fans are such idiots that they can't enjoy 9-1, just because it hasn't looked pretty.
Coaching is a whole damn package. You might bring in a better OC who can't recruit to save his life.
But, maybe they should hire some of the blowhards who have never been under the gun to do so much better.
I have had that guy on ignore for a while now.
You should do the same thing.
It's much better for your blood pressure
He is just trolling us here anyway, adds nothing to the board.
There is merit to what you say Sirfoolthat'sasmartfeller. However, as you may have read, I'm Italian, profane, a defender of the Full Faith and Sacraments at the Church of the Grace of FSU Tackle Football. I'/m trying for a Deaconship, but keep getting in Big Trouble for cussin' and bein' an inveterate stinkbutt. Same old story. Uncle Nash used to be sometimes brilliant. Now he's mostly just erratic. I can still recognize a village that's lost it's idiot though. I always try to help him find his way back too.
Are we 9-1 or 1-9? Just checking.....
Of all the criticisms of Fisher, of which there are some, his "X's and O's" knowledge certainly isn't one of them.
For those who feel changes need to be made, what would you have done differently last night?

Jimbo ain't the man. If this team isn't prepared to play teams like VT, damn we would get killed vs the big dogs.
