"I never knew I had a foot until I noticed it was on your neck"
Three W's In My Life: Ward, Weinke, and Winston
Regardless, I think we need 2 TBs and 1 FB (Gus Edwards) in this class.
I've seen wilder play more than most and I do not need to be a Gm
He is the best defensive player I have seen in hs
1st round talent
If he was able to work his way out there by being a blitz specialist I think he could have 7-8 sacks mid season.
If someone can convince him of that, then we're set.
In fairness, JWJ brought it up himself. That's not a dead horse.
Then he needs to be playing defense, but he is also a very good RB.
Why not have him play D and also carry the ball? He only gets 10 carries per game anyway.
I watched Wilder play for three years here in Tampa. I thought he was a great LB in high school, but a bit of a finesse player on D. Much of his plays came off of backside pursuit and sideline to sideline speed. He struggled some when teams ran right at him. Believe it or not, he's MORE aggressive with the football in his hands.
Don't get me wrong, I think he could have been a very good LB in college. I just think he's a more natural player on offense.

I said this on Warchant and got blasted for like 3 pages

Sounds like a great weak side LB to me!!!
No doubt, he'd make some plays for sure.
I hope they go for it. Like josh said, the kid is more aggressive with the ball and we should definitely utilize that, and I like him as a RB, but the weakside backer idea is also intriguing.
This is what I was thinking. But I think Jones and Smith are capable of it as well. Heck, even Karlos could probably do it.
Anybody know what Telvin, Karlos and JWJ's weights are up to?
If bob would actually use him as our primary back this LB talk would die
Unfortunately we're stuck with a head coach/OC that refuses to commit to the running game or the hot hand.
I agree, rotate far to much sometimes and abandon it far to quickly.
I would like to see Jimbo commit to using JWJ at RB. 15 carries per game (at the very least) sounds reasonable. If not, use him on both sides of the ball. He would thrive as a WSLB. He's far too talented to save his services for the occasionally 4th and 1 (even still, on 4th and 1 Jimbo finds a way NOT to use him!).
I must be the only one that is disappointed in Freeman's ability to be a #1 back.
I don't want him there at all.
That was my opinion about him from day one, although he has proven to be a better RB than I 1st thought he would.
I always thought he could be a 1st round draft pick at LB after 3-4 years at FSU, or a (4th-7th) round draft pick at RB after 4-5 years at FSU.
He could follow his hart, and play on Offence, which may lead him to being a happier man in the end; or he could follow the BIG A$$ bags money, and play on Defense, which will likely lead him to being a more wealthy man in the end.
Either way, the choice is his.
I am just really happy to see the coaches kept their word, and gave him a real shot at playing RB. I am not sure that would have been the case at some other schools.
As for playing both ways, I would be all for working him in on Defense, especially on some blitzes. It couldn't hurt to have another physical freak to send after the QB, and in those games when our Defense has been on the field for too long, the fresh legs could be a real help.
Let's put it this way: if at the end of the game, JWJ's uniform is still clean, the coaches didn't use him enough. Get him on the field, some way, some how. That is all.
You don't want Freeman as #1 or Wilder? It seems several people on this thread (eg. Canolee) suggested JWJ should be the featured back. I think the rest want him moved to LB because he's not being utilized at RB. I would love to see Freeman AND Wilder each carry the ball app. 15 a game. Like Lacy and Yeldon. I don't care who the #1 is. If not, then I say move JWJ to LB.
I want jimbo to feature wilder like he did thompson pre-injury. We could just wear teams down
I don't see that happening though
Absolutely and there smoke that Pender may not be on the team next year. So who knows. We need Wilder to stay out of court and stay at RB. Need to sign 2 RB's this year.
any word on if the Greg Byrant wavering from ND rumors r true?
