Nash, I have known the guy for over ten years and there is nothing further from the truth. The decision to leave FSU was not an easy one and anyone that tells you otherwise does not know the man. Coley left because he wanted the opportunity to call his own plays. He was responsible for putting the game plan each week and breaking down each opponent but did not call plays. He wants to be a head coach....Being a OC in name only was not going to help his cause. I could care less what is said or written about Coley....It is BS and will stick with what I am saying. Those that know him understand he does not think in a way to hurt others.
It will hurt this year and the next. Last year it was to late and only cost us the younger Coley.
He did not really end up hurting anyone, in fact i would argue we are much better coaching wise today, then the day before Coley left.
As for his tweets, I thought they were idiotic when he was "coaching" here, and I think they are idiotic and moronic now that he is coaching at that ghetto.
He tried to rub Jimbo's nose in it, and Jimbo basically said "GFY I can go out and get whoever the f&*k I want" and he did.
Fair enough. I accept your opinion. Perhaps what I've heard is just the normal butt-hurt reaction of those who disliked the timing of his decision. Regardless of what he is as a man, the perception of this move in some circles was not favorable.
"England expects that every man will do his duty."
- Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, Royal Navy
MEH, time to move on. Loyalty is a thing of of the past.
He never rubbed anyone nose in anything. I understand that people get upset that the guy left to a rival....but he made the right move and I would have done the same thing as would anyone on this site. Anyone that says otherwise is full of BS. If you are not part of this industry you will not understand why....
First off and this is not just about Coley but some say he was not loyal......BS...If he was not loyal Coley would not have stayed at FSU two years ago when he was offered a job as a WR coach with the Patriots. He also turned down the Cowboys job this year....FACT. He is friends with the Cowboys head coach and worked with him when they were with Saban and the Dolphins. Coley has turned down multiple jobs....The Miami job was perfect for him to take....More money, better chance to improve his career and in an area he loves to recruit. Coley was responsible for 37% of FSU starting lineup last year....Fact and if not for his recruiting guys like Werner would have never come to FSU. Go ask Dustin Hopkins father, Caz father or any other kid he recruited or coached what he is about. He is a great person and those that want to sit there and go after him personally don't know him. Josh, Chris Nee or anyone else that has covered the team will tell you the same.
People that are bitter about him leaving get over it....If the offense had struggled next year and Jimbo was forced to go outside of the program to hire an OC....Coley would get fired...How would that be for loyalty. So please stop with this BS about Loyalty.
As I stated before Mario was loyal to FIU....And turned down 2.o million a year from Rutgers and Pitt a year ago to stay at FIU....He got fired a year later. Kevin Patrick was loyal to USF...What did it get him this year....out of a job. Coley did the best thing for him and his family....
Understand something Coley recruited Matthew Thomas all along to FSU....and he did not recruit him while at Miami...how about that for loyalty. How about him not recruiting anyone except the RB from New York....You think Coley could not have pulled Thomas...Please the reason FSU landed Thomas was Coley. This is reality. I see others say he took Stacy Coley...once again false...Eddie Gran was recruiting Coley and Dawsey took over when he left.
I am going to defend the guy because 1) he is a good person, 2) he is a very good coach and 3) he gives everything he has to which ever job he has at that time.
Defense will be the downfall for Miami & Coley - especially in the trenches
Not going to disagree with you, but if we get Ice Harris' son, I think some good things could happen to us in recruiting. JMHO though.
I'm still of the opinion that um is still going to get further sanctions from the ncaa. Call it a hunch if you want, but the ncaa doesn't have to worry about the same things a lawyer would in collecting evidence. While paying somebody off my have been "unethical" by some people's standards, it doesn't change the fact that um cheated their arse off and deserves a punishment. IMO they are hoping and praying that the ncaa will be ashamed about their actions enough to mitigate the damages levied. Who knows though because anybody who says they can predict when or what the ncaa will do is just guessing.
Definitely a butt hurt reaction by fans. I know a decent amount of his family, and I know his family played a huge role in him deciding to take the job at UM.
Mario pretty much showed his loyalty also. I have heard this story before, all poor FSU without Coley.
ESS is persuasive in all points except the claim that Coley kindly conceded Matthew Thomas to FSU when he could have simply snapped his fingers and directed Thomas to Miami.
If he gifted the nation's top LB to a rival while on Miami's payroll then he should be fired from UM. I'm not believing that for a second.
Otherwise, though, I believe that Coley is a great guy. He's a great guy who, having left FSU for Miami for perfectly rational reasons, now coaches for Miami and hence can eat my shorts.

How ironic and hilarious.
I never said he was "bad person" not entirely sure what being a good or bad person has to do with anything.
I am not a coach, but know enough of this industry when your chief recruiter bugs out less than 2 weeks prior to NSD...well that is a BS move.
You can try and slice and dice however you like, but it is a BS move, if he had left the day after NSD, nobody would be able to be critical about anything. It's not like the kids he is recruiting would be crestfallen or feel duped, since he wouldn't be their position coach anyway.
Coley's biggest issue is that he is in WAY over his head. Fisch could flat out coach, prepare, and call plays. Coley is not on his level in regards to any of those.
That and he can seriously f himself. I hope Pruitt's D eats his O alive.
Fisher made it clear what Coley's plans held. Leaving like he did was BS.
We'll see what happens. It could be a career killer (or at least a stall) too if Miami is sanctioned....and will it be difficult in Doak? The only think Miami had going for it was offense and Jed Fisch is now calling plays in the NFL. Who's replacing an NFL play caller? James Coley...

No it wont. He had the relationship advantage with Bryant, Thomas, Kirkland etc. and still couldn't seal the deal. Why? Because selling Miami right now is very, very difficult and it's only going to get tougher.
The blind bias he displays towards Coley and South Florida is disgustingly evident. I had enough of it, so I pressed that small orange button to the left.
Nothing but ducktales or we can call them fish stories.
This is a two issue problem.
1-The timing...and you know, you can almsot let that one go, if he was say taking the FIU HC job...but it connects to give you the double whammy when you consider...
2-He left for Miami...you know that program that cost us all those national title shots, the one that WE RECRUIT AGAINST!
Now tell me again what a swell guy Coley is.
I understand it i a business, I get that probably as much as anyone, but there is a proper way to do things.
He better hope to God Miami doesn't crap itself with sanctions and losses over the next 2-3 yrs, otherwise he'll find himself a PE teacher coaching JV football at soeme Everglades HS craphole.
I was a massive ESS backer for months, lept off that bandwagon two weeks ago.
