I'm 100% convinced Jimbo coaches against himself at times. um is ranked 118 in rush D, but Jimbo comes out passing. Why? The only thing I can think of is that he thinks um is going to come out and over compensate for their lack of a rush D, and play against the run more aggressively. Whatever! It resulted in 2 horrible possessions. Then the light came on I guess, he ran the ball, and we racked up almost 180 yards and 10 points in offense on our next 2 possessions. Then for some reason I cannot conceive, he comes out passing again.
I am seriously concerned with the mindset of our team. Home field advantage or not, plays with more emotion than FSU and it's not even close. We are very VERY lucky that game is in Tally this year. If it was in uglyville, we would have ZER0 chance of winning.
There are so many little things wrong with our team, it's too much to write about...so I'll make a list.
1. Jimbo does not get as much out of his players as other coaches do.
2. Our D doesn't attack.
3. Players like Werner are used how we want them to play, not how they can. Keep his hand in the freakin dirt.
4. The little things, like jumping over people when not needed, are not ingrained into the team.
5. The little things include recruiting issues this year.
6. Where the freck is Hudson?
7. Greene isn't a return man until he catches the ball.......but that's the problem.
8. Our LBs are weak.
9. Penalties are a result of a lack of attention to detail. NO, I don't buy into the throwing flags vs FSU as a cliche.
Please, light me up and convince me that I'm off my rocker...because I'm convinced this team does not have "it".
Did you watch the entire game? We won. You go pick your bone with Jimbo. Knock yourself out. FSU fans are a sad bunch.
"I never knew I had a foot until I noticed it was on your neck"
I will never apologize for nor diminish my high expectations for our team. Last night was an ugly UGLY win vs a very bad team.
FSU is getting less with more. That's my problem. Wins are great, but great teams will handle us. We play with less emotion than dead bug on a windshield.
I don't agree with every detail you said but it looks like several recruits at the game weren't to thrilled about the way we played
BTW...it's not that Jimbo doesn't have faith in EJ, it's that he doesn't let EJ be EJ. It's painfully clear he's forcing EJ to be who he thinks he should be. EJ is at his best when he opens up the field with his legs, ie Clemson. Honestly, I think Jimbo takes that approach to his entire offensive game plan.
I was fairly pleased with our defensive effort tonight. We completely stonewalled them for almost the entire game. Came out with a quick 3 and out to start before our offense gave it right back. They fought poor field position all night and made Miami completely one dimensional. So I disagree about our defense and how we are using Werner/Tank. Moving them around does not hurt them but makes Miami's OL's head spin.
I think its pretty clear we dont go out and tach people to try and jump over people. But the kids got excited in a big time game and were trying to make a play. Its not like this has been a recurring theme of people trying to leap everybody. Calm down.
I agree with Greene. I want to see somebody else who is fearless back there fielding punts. Not stupid, but fearless. I miss Greg.
As a corps, our LBers have been a disappointment thus far. But Telvin played the game of his career tonight. He was everywhere. I want to see him and the youngins' some more.
And agree to disagree on the penalties. Our DL is getting absolutely assaulted and no calls. Yet they call three offensive PI calls? And another on Waisome for textbook coverage. At one point the disparity in yards was something along the 125-5 range. Then, like every game, they call three or four at the end to try and eliminate the disparity. If they swallows their whistles and dont assert themselves, FSU wins 55-10. But thats life.
I wasnt terribly disappointed in the team and didnt think we came out "flat." I just think we made some stupid mistakes likes jumping a standing LBer and unfortunately losing the fumble giving Miami a short field. That happens, I guess. We took our lumps and dominated after the first 10 minutes. I'll take it.
I am one to call it how I see it. I think he did gonaway from the run some but was pretty balanced. You cant have it both ways people. He didn't try and get consersative. If oleary didn't fumble to start or the punt's wasn't shanked they don't score ten easy points. I do agree with getting a different punt's returned as Greene looks scared back there. When they took out Vince for passing downs the lbs played better I thought.
Hilarious. Same people here were bitching before that we weren't more aggressive. We trailed in this game and played against the refs, too. We carved them up in the air and were three bogus opi calls from winning by four or five tds.
"It's not the SEC conference vs. the ACC conference," "It's Florida State vs. Auburn." --Lamarcus Joyner
If I have to point out the disparity in correct penalties versus imaginary ones, I don't know what to tell you.
We agree on Greene and general LB play but outside of that, this thread makes more sense two weeks ago. Jimbo has become visibly more aggressive. The defense, despite not "attacking" (?), is ferocious.
Those plays on the BS offensive PI calls are a good example. Those plays were aggressive, and designed to exploit size matchups that made sense. I was fine with coaching/ playcalling last night.
Not convinced this is the case. When EJ runs, EJ gets hurt. If he was an impervious bull like Cam or Tebow, I think Jimbo might let him run more. But last year he "ran" against three teams and was hurt twice (OU, BC).
Jimbo is trying to protect the team by protecting EJ. The problem is that he hasn't coached him well enough over 5 years and EJ hasn't developed well enough over 5 years to be a dominant in the pocket passer. That final pass to a double covered Rodney is simply not a throw a fifth year senior with EJ's experience should ever make. Driskel in year two hasn't made that mistake all year.

It comes down to execution....
-The 5-yard false start penalties....
-Things like not pulling Benjamin aside and coaching him to keep his hands off the CB (called 3x)... Yet he comes out and does it time and time again.
-The wasted timeouts...(lesson not learned from NC State)
-And the ultimate DENIAL of 2012... we are sticking with one of the worst 5th year senior QB ever...which allows defenses to ignore 10+ yard threats completely.... QB who puts up a completely overrated 70%+ completion rating through passes 1-5 yards that occasionally turn into long plays....but only hits like 10% of his passes that are thrown 10+ yards.
When you dumb down the offense and 90% of the plays attack the 1-5 yard range, teams are going to bring up their defense and jump our plays... If 3.5 yards = success, you will need 100% success in order to get a first down running this style offense.... Now compare that to an offense that throws 10+ yards 3 straight times...you would only need 33% success in order to convert the first down...You HAVE to be able to ATTACK all parts of the field in order to ensure the defensive cant cheat up and get numbers. With EJ, we are giving away anything over 10+ yards.
um is a very bad team. We should have shut them out for that long. I just don't understand how some people get elated over an ugly win over a bad team? We should have crushed them and Vegas said so.
Wow. Agree 100%.
I was telling my wife, "I can't wait for EJ to move on." We all know Trickett is going to be the guy in 2013 and 2014 and the kid has got it.
Trickett knows the playbook perfectly. He actually has a stronger, more accurate arm than EJ. Not afraid to go down field. He also runs better than most think.
If Trickett was 6'5 235 like Coker he'd be a Heisman candidate next year with all the weapons on offense.
Scalp 'Em Seminoles!!!
Well the bottom line is, he is not and he won't!!
If you think you things will change because Clint (or whomever) is the QB, then you are going to be a very disappointed person.
This is not about EJ any more than it was Ponder.
You're a clown.
If CP7 was still our starting QB, EJ would be the most popular player on this team. All of you would be saying he should be the starter, etc.
He is the starting QB for FSU, show him the support he has earned.
How is Christo doing... enjoying his time
