Recruiting will now get somewhat tougher because we have been eclipsed by UF. We had noticeably more talent than UF yet lost and staggeringly more talent than NC St and lost.
I suspect we will not have this much of a talent gap with UF for the foreseeable future. Actually, within a couple of years we will have slightly less talent than UF. As to the ACC, sure we will continue to have more talent than everyone but Clemson but so what?
I am not saying this is Jimbo's highwater mark. However, i would not be surprised if we look back 5 years form now and decide this was his highwater mark at FSU.
I'm too drunk to even folow this post.
All I know is this:
Jimbo will need to make some wholesale changes to his staff and coaching philosophy if we are to improve.
If he chooses not to, we've reached our ceiling, and this is as good as we will ever be. Our wins/losses will depend on our schedule, as our team will not be getting any better.
I agree. I don't know how/when the "war" started, Marshall, but truce. We're all Nole fans here.

Do you believe Jimbo Fisher is a good coach?

I believe he can be a good HC if he focuses on being the HC.... not the HC, O-coordinator, and QB coach. I absolutely believe he can be a very successful HC, but he is simply an average OC. He's a good QB coach but has too much on his plate to focus on all 3.
I also believe that if you are trying to crack jokes at his expense by calling him Jumbo you shouldn't have a fat f-cking son of a bitch in your avatar. I hope that isn't you.

He is a decent coach, but his record against good teams are awful. I think the other posters are right. I don't think he will lead us to an mnc. We will compete for an acc championship but that is about it unless some things change. Some coaches need to find other places toncoach.
No. Actually, I have serious doubts. he is a good recruiter but his offenses always underperformed at LSU and they do here as well.
The team was not ready for one road game. He will not listen to others regarding offensive adjustments.
No question this will be the high water mark unless he brings in an OC and gets rid of Trickett.
Trickett has yet to field an o-line that can hang with a top-25 d-line....And I just feel like we give his o-line far too much credit for beating up on the bottom feeders... then act surprised when we get toasted vs. good d-lines..
The Gators fielded an O-line today that was more competent than ANYTHING Trickett has put on the field his time here at FSU... If Driskell ever learns to stop holding the ball for 5 seconds a play.. you better watch out.
Jimbo's play-calling and game management is oh so damn painful to watch.... He refuses to accept Trickett's line sucks and adjust accordingly.
Jimbo's playcalling + Tricketts O-line = 2 loss peak... during the years when we have the easiest schedules ever.... 4-5 losses during our down years....

Amen about Trickett. The adulation he gets here all because he is a yeller and screamer amazes me. He can coach-so what? lots of caoches can coach He can't get enough quality ol recruits to come play for him.
I suspect if Fisher does not make a change at ol coach it will eventually cost him his job.
it 's nothing personal, Trickett just ins't getting it done-results matter.

Typo....however my weight is what it is....it helps me with my enemies 6.4
I wish I was this smart when drunk!!!!!
Yes....and I think everyone basically knows it.
An occasional ACC title (maybe...we haven't seen one yet) and that is it. Regular losses to double digit underdogs and just pure crap performances like we saw tonight. He will always coach scared....it is just who he is.
I didn't think he coached scared tonight.
I thought he coached expecting us to dominate them up front. Even expecting our OL to dominate their DL.
He might have coached foolishly, but not scared.
On the other hand, I think UF expected our DL to dominate their OL, and started out playing to shorten the game. At some point, they realized they were better than us at the LOS on both sides of the ball, and they were able to do more things.
ACC has brought us down. I don't expect us to beat UF again for a long time, and probably not until we leave the ACC.
Such a recurring theme in every loss throughout his time here...Whether it's UF, NC State, Virginia...
The lack of improvement is painful. It gets overlooked because we are 12-2.... and he is bringing in great recruits....and we've greatly improved since Jeff.... ...but his offensive evolution isolated over the 6-year tenure is just sad.
We are stuck in a number of ways.
We are stuck with "better than Jeff Bowden" as an offensive outlook. Which is good enough that we can't really ask for more.
And we are stuck in a horrible conference, and whereas other teams can get out, we can't. But we can win this horrible conference from time to time.
I just don't see a pathway for things to get better. They're already pretty good, and we would be crazy to make a change, right?
lol, get it together. I'm as pissed as anyone, but to act like UF is the greatest thing since sliced bread and that we aren't going to beat them for a long time is ridiculous.
I'm not even pissed. I think we played our game, the same game that won us the ACC championship. I'm not mad at anybody.
People are blaming turnovers, but in the ACC those bad throws aren't INTs.
You're right that UF is not truly great. They're an upper-tier SEC team. We are merely the best team in the ACC. I think there's a wide gulf between those two things. I can't think of any other reason why we got manhandled like that, because I agree that our raw talent level is on par with theirs.
As far as whether we'll beat them again for a long time...I just think we need to play better competition throughout the season. We can do that by getting out of the ACC, by playing a better non-conference schedule, or by having some real damn teams in the ACC, like MIami used to be.

I share your misgivings about the ACC and how it has affected our play. I get how frustrated you are about what happened tonight because I'm right there with you. But don't you think it's a bit rash to conclude that losing one game to Florida is going to snowball into not beating them again for the foreseeable future? They beat us much worse in 2009, and we blew them out the following year. And then beat them by 14 on the road last season.
Point being, things can change quickly, and college football is somewhat unpredictable. Who would have believed that UF would be in this position back in the spring? Or even after week one of this season?
And this is admittedly a little nit-picky, but the second INT is a pick in any league. The defender was sitting on the route the whole way.
Sure, college football is unpredictable. And we could beat UF in Gainesville next year.
I just don't like how the cards are lined up. UF is out-recruiting us this year. Their program has passed us up with a newer coach than we have, while we seem stuck in neutral, unable to make adjustments, unable to improve throughout the year. We have a coach who is committed to playing the weakest schedule he can possibly play. And we are stuck in a conference that makes climbing the ladder exceptionally hard--a conference that, rather than angrily working to get out of its ditch, seems to be getting worse, even making moves (adding Pitt and Syracuse, losing Maryland) that suggest the powers that be may have actually given up on being competitive in football. It appears we are stuck in this conference for the long haul.
We could still beat UF next year or any year, but I just don't like the trajectory of what I see, especially relative to them. That's all. I see UF very good and getting better in a top conference. I see us being pretty good and going laterally, or even getting a little less talented, in a bad conference.
I get that. I have a lot of the same concerns, but I want to give it another season before I feel comfortable making a judgment on our program's trajectory versus UF's. As recently as this summer, a lot of people were speculating that Muschamp might be "two and through" in Gainesville, and no one thought their program was in better shape than ours. One season like this doesn't necessarily make a trend, but it is definitely disheartening to watch us play below our potential while they are maxing out theirs.
