I guess the question is what are your expectations of the team? Everyone's is probably different. Lets be honest it's going to be a tuff year with are home schedule to sell tickets. If your expectations with Clint is going 8-4 you are probably right anything better would be over achieving.
Your personal bias is baseless in my opinion. When has Jimbo not started the right QB? How he calls plays and who he starts at QB are unrelated.
In a way he is right though. If he starts anyone but Winston and we lose a game the fan base is going to go nuts. Im not saying that its fair but thats the way it is. Jimbo lost a lot of goodwill with the fanbase because of his play calling im not sure he could afford to go that route right or wrong. I honestly dont care if he starts a walkon as long as we win. Thats the most important thing. Winning. Not how we look doing it.
Winning cures all
Also, upvoted for asking the taboo question that is on many minds.
Yes, Jimbo has done a great job picking starting QBs even when the decision was politically difficult.
Yes, despite complaints about play calling, statistics prove beyond doubt that our offense has been very good under Jimbo with the very real (and again, statistically supported) exception of short yardage situations.
But it is NOT unreasonable to wonder whether Jimbo will bench Rick Trickett's son in favor of Winston, even with the obvious talent differential. I think he will, but it would be easy for him to explain if he doesn't.
This thread is damn interesting. Usually taking flak and asking interesting questions go hand in hand.
Jimbo needs to win games. He knows it as evidenced by quoting stats at every turn last year to prove the 2012 teams's greatness.
If he were to drop a game or 2 because he played a coach's son over the better player his seat will get hot. However, If it appeared he played Trickett because he has more experience that would be different. It would need to be an obvious reason to most people & not something Jimbo says but most people think be is not on the level and just practicing CYA. FWIW i do not Trickett will see the field much next year. . IMO Coker will be given the mop up reps.

If Trickett starts, I expect experience to be the most used word in Jimbo's vocabulary. It would be pretty weak sauce though. I think Winston will be it.
Considering his work with QB's and Sanders work with QB's it would be tough to second guess his choice and hard for me to judge off one decent game by a player against a base defense with 2 of our better CB's out.
Whoever get's the nod, earned it, whether we want to believe it or not
You know how much I love Trickett (from last year). I thought for sure he'd spend this off-season in the weight room, eating every legal supplement he could get his hand on... and come in 200+... but alas, it didn't happen.
I just don't see a plausible way he should start...even if he is the best QB out there right this moment.
IMHO, it's stupid to pretend that he is going to be capable of staying healthy throughout this season. He may be able to take some hits and survive for a while, but the kid doesn't have enough instincts to avoid taking the big hits... and the way he danced around in the game yesterday reaffirmed to me that he hasn't learned much in this regards. In modern football, a QB with very little ability to mitigate the severity of hits... who weighs 180... isn't going to last very long.
While I think Jimbo will certainly start "the best QB", I'm not certain he is will take the injury factor into the equation as much as I would... and IMHO, it's a huge waste of a season if we lead with Trickett and during the season, he goes down... and we miss that much experience with Winston.
I'd say I'm 99% certain, that regardless of whether Trickett starts off this season... Winston ends up finishing it... Meaning Jimbo's decision needs to be more "starting the best qb who will survive a season" and less "starting the best QB in practice"
I'm damn concerned.

Normally the last thing a HC wants is for the fans and boosters to be calling the shots on who starts at QB. But assuming all things remain the same with the QB health and availability to practice they it has to go to Winston. I just cannot see how it could be justified anything other. Clint did not look like the more experienced QB out there last night. From where I sat Both Winston and Coker looked more comfortable.
He he does choose Trickett and he fails it is going to look real bad because of his dad being on the Staff. This is Wyatt Sexton again. Now it is not like Clint is terrible but he needs a dominating OL to keep him clean and he can do real well. We do not have that at all. Clint could get real hurt. I know the absence of a RB is part of the problem this spring game so it does not really show what we can or can't be. But if you are a 5 Star and you redshirted a year. This is your time. We do not have a returning starter so it should be his turn.
More than your love of CT is your love of preparing to light peoples' torches against Fisher.
"It's not the SEC conference vs. the ACC conference," "It's Florida State vs. Auburn." --Lamarcus Joyner
If you don't prep those torches, revisionist history sets in, and pretty soon we're rationalizing a loss to NC State as acceptable... and using stats to tell us how great Trickett's offensive line is, although it can't pick up a few situational yards vs. the likes of powerhouses such as USF.
I've thrown down my gambit (my expectations), and you seemed OK with them, last time I recall? Judging by the recent expectations thread, I'd say mine are much lower than the average fan... as I see 2 losses as a fantastic season (provided one of them doesn't come vs. a double-digit dog)

I don't disagree with the expectations. Just noticing you helping keep the knives sharpened just in case.
I'm secretly rooting for Fisher... why else would I be leveraging for the only QB with enough talent to save Jimbo from himself, in those games where he occasionally forgets that we're the team with the 5-stars, and are not the underdog
