Always found it funny people blamed Trickett for 3rd and short issues this year when holes were open and backs were missing them. Call power plays with pre determined holes if your backs aren't going to make the right decisions. And that's on gran, too
Totally agree, I love the enthusiasm with which he holds a clipboard.
Debate the merits of each QBs playing ability, not how they hold a clipboard.
Dude, I have said nothing about your opinion.
Follow the thread.
" I think I've changed my mind and I would just go ahead and start Winston in 2013"
I said Winston is the future of the program and you attacked my opinion.
You are entitled to your opinion, but at least post your two cents on the issue and state your opinion on the guys if your going to attack mine.
It's hard to respect someone attacking my opinion when they have brought nothing to the table in regards to the qb battle.
I understand your sons situation might limit what you can say but people's opinion on this battle will be the key talking point for the next 6 months.
I really feel that trickett is too limited to take us to the next step. Coker and Winston are both great runners but I like winstons skill set at qb and i have heard he is nothing short of a natural leader. Despite being around longer I have not heard anyone say this about coker
I'm excited about all of our guys. But I am no more excited about Winston than Coker. And I've seen with my own eyes, in college, on the field, in the heat of the battle, that everyone here is selling Trickett far short. He may not have the physical abilities the others have (the ability to be extremely dangerous with his legs), but so what?
idk about you guys but from what I have seen out of trickett is he connects pretty well with Rashad Greene and Kelvin Benjamin and if our O-line can protect him I think he will be fine since he has already knows the playbook BUT I would definitely be fine with Either Coker or JW guiding our offense.
What drives me crazy in this "QB battle" is people are essentially comparing two movies they've never seen. They're saying that one is better than the other, but they haven't seen either.
I would sit down all my QB's together.
I would tell Trickett "You have the experience and this should be an easy decision. It is up to you to make it that way in Spring and Fall"
I would tell Winston "You had a year to see it all and to learn, I hope you soaked it all up and you are ready to battle for this starting job because it is wide open and it is up to you if you are the QB next year"
I would tell Coker "that nobody thinks you are the guy but from what I have seen you can be that guy without question."
I would tell them that they will be watched very closely on the field and off the field. The coaches will come together and give input on their recommendations. In the end I will decide. It is up to you 3 to make this one of the hardest decisions I have to make.
My goal is to put the best player on that field by time conference play begins.
Yawhol herr commandant. Battle tested? Not so much except for baby Trickett. Under Fire? Nein; NEIN! Yet of COURSE one can tell all about a book from looking at it's cover. Just has to be a best sellah! It's really too bad, no one not directly connected to the team can see all the Spring and Fall practices. This battle would be fun to watch. Alas, our resident pundits won't even have practices to view in support of their speculations; all of which will make them propound them even more forcefully and with extreme conviction.
You don't need to be fast at all to play QB (Tom Brady, Drew Brees say hi). Having an athletic QB is a luxury, not a necessity. If CT has better command of the playbook, he should start, simple as that. The QB position is over half mental.
CT is a good backup. He isn't a starting Qb who you hand your program over to. He will start the spring as our #1. Jimbo is going to give him every chance to prove himself as teh unquestioned leader of this team. But, I also think Jimbo wants to see how Coker and Winston compete to be "The Guy".. If the come in not accepting being the back up and fight for the #1 spot I fully expect one of them to be the starter on opening day. This isn't a knock on CT, it's just some kids have much higher potential than others.
The "how dare you discuss the QB battle and compare the potential starters" people just crack me up.
No one questioned the discussion.
It's the anointing that I question.
And based on the limited info we all have that cracks me up.
The discussion is which QB would you anoint as the starter.
yes, winston and coker both have a better skill set than trickett. my real concern is jimbos friendship with daddy trickett. hopefully jimbo doesnt start trickett just because that friendship. i want all four qbs to get a fair gamble. subliminally, i admit i am caught up in the stars and i am pulling for winston. with that said, the team and winning comes first and the best player that gives u the chance to win should play.
Wow, are you comparing trickettt to two future hall of famers.
Fwiw a ton of folks like Coker. If anything, no one expects CT to start.
I would see how they perform in spring and fall camp, and name the best player the opening day starter.
Seems to me you asked how you'd handle Winston's development.
by you I think.
i like tricketts heart. just look at the qbs jimbo has had throughout his career. they have been big with cannon arms are athletic. trickett doesnt fit either profile. if we all just be realistic, if daddy trickett wasnt coaching at fsu. we wouldnt be having this debate because i seriously doubt that lil trickett would even be on this team.
I don't take the webz overly serious but it seems every thread I open on this board nowadays is full of fellow Niles flaming away at each other.
I pay for info from staff and some good debate. It used to be that way here.
Now, I see a lot of posters being dicks to prove they are "right". Every thread.
Oh well. Merry Christmas all. Hope everyone has a great day. Remember the reason for the season.
I never said nobody liked him. I am just saying he is the underdog. On on hand you have a veteran in Trickett whose dad is the OL Coach. On the other hand you have a highly touted 5 Star Recruit who redshirted. I may be new to this board but I am not new to FSU football.
No disrespect. I gotcha
