Give me your first "Signing Day shocker experience....do you remember the first time on Signing Day you said "Oh " after a kid committed somewhere?
I'll share mine:
I was interning for Dave Peters at The Territory. He had me go to Madison to cover Geno Hayes Signing Ceremony. I got there to a packed room of students and media.
Mom walked in the room and something just looked wrong. Geno sat down to sign, didn't make eye contact with anyone....mom starts crying.
At that point I said, "Oh "
Long story short...Mom wanted him at Tennessee and that was the hangup. After some more crying and talking in the coaches office, two hours later Geno comes out to an empty room with me and probably 4 other reporters. Geno sits down, mumbles "Florida State" and signs his LOI. It was my first experience to see first-hand how crazy this recruiting stuff can be.

Antone Smith for me. I was in middle school and just started following. I'm from palm beach county so it was huge down there on top of it.
I also want to add tony steward was the most shocking tho

My dad used to work for your cousin jamie and scout back when countdown to signing day was brand new. So i grew up on NSD. The biggest oh shiz moment i can remember was when Tone picked FSU. 2nd was marvin austins lying tail
I was a SR in HS and Antone Smith was the age as I was. We played Pahokee and I remember how amazing Antone was. He was on the cover of the sports section in the PB Post 3 dozen times that year. It was my first year paying attention to recruiting and when Antone committed to FSU over Miami it was the ultimate holy .
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more serious than that."
Lo. Booker circa 2002 (2001?)...thought that dude was Notre Dame bound...the announcement had me pumped...
This thread wouldn't be complete if we didn't mention Whitney Lewis.
That dude was ugly...
Not FSU related but Cyrus Koundijo
Antone Smith for me.
I had as much faith in him coming to FSU, as i do with Laremy Tunsil. That was like my first or 2nd year following recruiting too, so it made it even more amazing. Following the Antonio Clay saga was pretty fun too.
Good shocker: Eddie Goldman
Wow shocker: Andrus Peat- My NU connections ALL had him as a "lock". It was bittersweet. Bitter cuz we didnt get a legit shot to sway him and sweet cuz the blackskirts were whining!
Bad shocker: Tied with Matt Elam & Dante Fowler.

The Markish Jones situation was... interesting, too.
I remember 2002 when Lorenzo Booker announced. It was just before recruiting got big and he was one of the first to announce on TV. All the chirping leading up to the announcement was Notre Dame. Then on live TV, he gets choked up, can barely speak and says "I gotta go to Florida State." I jumped up and down screaming in the living room. Still my favorite to this day.
Travis Minor, didn't expect him really and he was before the interwebs. Was shocked we got him.
Landon Collins. Him picking Bama while his mom boos and flashes signs with LSU receiver gloves on. For all humanity I mumbled holy sh__
Definitely for me, it was Antone Smith. I knew FSU had worked hard, but everything seemed to be pointing to Antone being a Cane. I had dosed off and got on Warchant and low and behold saw the news. Needless to say I was stunned.
Was not stunned by Tony Stewart more than I was just hugely disappointed. Knew Clemson was a factor in this and just remembering the look on Tony's mom and brother face. Mom tried to put on a good face and clapped, but little brother was absolutely PISSED.
All from 2010 and all DEs - Cory Lemonier, Ego Ferguson and Calvin Smith.
This. It was on the front page of ESPN.com and I lost it in my mom's classroom (she teaches elementary and I was in middle school)
Cj spiller. Thought for sure he was staying in state.
I would say Matt Elam, it's about when I really started following recruiting. He was UF switches to us then flips back to the them. Glad the we won 2 out of 3 against him.
Commits to Alabama.
Decommits, and commits to Auburn.
Is going to commit to Alabama (Again) tonight.
Will decommit, and sign with Auburn on Wednesday.
