    Final Game Notes

    ACC Openers

Under head coach Jimbo Fisher, Florida State improved to 2-1 in ACC openers and 3-0 in ACC home openers following the Seminoles' 52-0 win over Wake Forest Saturday afternoon. FSU has outscored the opposition 124-16 in the three straight ACC opening wins at home. FSU improved to 15-6 all-time in ACC openers as the 52 points sits as the third most scored to open league play in 21 all-time games. The 52 points are the most in an ACC opener since 2001 when FSU defeated Duke 55-13.

With the Win Against Wake Forest...

    • FSU has won two straight at home - both in shutout fashion as the Seminoles have outscored the Deacs 83-0. The Seminoles have now won three of their last four meetings against the Demon Deacons.
    • FSU has now shut out the Demon Deacons six times.
    • Wake Forest hasn't scored an offensive touchdown in Doak Campbell Stadium since 2006 (2008, 2010, 2012).
    • FSU improved to 24-6-1 all-time against Wake Forest and 17-3-1 at home.
    • It marks the fifth time FSU has scored 50 or more points against Wake Forest and the first time since 1997 when FSU defeated WF 58-7 in Tallahassee.
    • Chris Thompson finished the game with nine rushes for 197 yards - the best rushing performance by a Seminole against Wake Forest.
    • The 38 first half points tied for the fourth most points scored in a half in series history.
    • Florida State has shutout Wake Forest six times in the series.

    Run Chris Run

Senior tailback Chris Thompson found the end zone twice in the second quarter on touchdown runs of 74 and 80 yards to give Florida State a 28-0 lead. The two touchdown runs came on back-to-back carries in the second quarter taking him within three yards of 200 yards rushing for the game. It marked his fourth career 100-yard rushing game and his first 100-yard rushing game since the December 31, 2010 Chick-fil-A Bowl when Thompson rushed for 147 yards in a 26-17 victory over South Carolina. The three previous 100-yard games for Thompson all came in 2010 when he eclipsed the mark against Miami (158 yards), South Carolina (147 yards) and BYU (123 yards). Thompson now has five career rushing touchdowns of 70 yards or more - 90 yards vs. Miami (Oct. 9, 2010), 83 yards vs. BYU (Sept. 18, 2010), 80 yards vs. Wake Forest (Sept. 15, 2012), 74 yards vs. Wake Forest (Sept. 15, 2012) and 70 yards vs. Maryland (Nov. 20, 2010).

    Thompson First Half Performance

Thompson finished the first half (and the game) with a 220 all-purpose yards (a career-high 197 rushing yards and 23 receiving yards on nine carries and two receptions). Thompson's 197 first half rushing yards sits as the 10th highest single-game rushing total in school history and the most rushing yards in a first half in school history. Thompson did not have a touch in the second half. When comparing the most rushing yards by a Seminole back in either the first or second half, Thompson's 197 yards are the second most behind only Greg Allen's 238 yards rushing in the second half against Western Carolina in 1981. Allen finished the game with a school record 322 yards, the only running back to rush for over 300 yards in any game in Florida State history. The last time Florida State had a back rush for more than 100 yards in the first half was Jermaine Thomas on Oct. 2, 2010 vs. Virginia when Thomas rushed for 112 yards on 12 carries.

    50-Point Plateau

Florida State has scored 50 or more in all three games this year. It marks the first time that FSU has performed this feat in school history. It also marks the third time in ACC history that a team has scored 50 or more points in three consecutive games (Virginia in 1990 and Virginia in 1992). Florida State is the first ACC team to record 50 or more points in the first three games of the season.

    300 Yards Rushing Game

Florida State finished Saturday's game against Wake Forest with 385 rushing yards marking the first time FSU rushed for over 300 yards in a game since tallying 313 yards on the ground at BYU. Six different Seminoles carried the ball against the Demon Deacons led by Chris Thompson's 197-yard performance.

    Manuel Completion Percentage

FSU quarterback EJ Manuel finished Saturday's game 15-of-24 for 176 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs. Manuel finished the game completing 62.5 percent of his passes against the Demon Deacons. For his career, Manuel has completed 379-of-569 attempts good for completion percentage of 66.6% which keeps in second place all-time on the ACC career completion percentage list behind Virginia's Matt Schaub (67.0).

    Multiple Touchdowns for Manuel

EJ Manuel finished Saturday's game with three touchdowns - two passing and one rushing - marking the fifth time in his career that he has thrown for at least one TD and rushed for at least one TD in a game and first time since Nov. 3, 2011 at Boston College. It is the second time that Manuel has performed the feat against the Demon Deacons. Manuel moved into sole possession of 14th place at FSU for career TD passes with 30 moving ahead of Christian Ponder, who tallied 29 career TD passes from 2007-09. Manuel now has seven career games in which he has tallied multiple TD passes in a game. The senior quarterback has registered six touchdown passes in the last two games.

    Hopkins Career Update

Dustin Hopkins finished Saturday's game with 10 points on one FG and seven PATs. The senior kicker now has 160 career PATs (career) and 66 career FGs (career) for 358 career points. Hopkins is now tied with Sebastion Janikowski for second-place in FSU history in field goals (66). The FSU record is 73 by Derek Schmidt (1984-87).

    Red Zone Efficiency

Florida State finished the game 5-for-5 in red zone appearances with four touchdowns and one FG. Through the first three games, FSU is a perfect 22-for-22 in the red zone tallying 19 touchdowns and three field goals.

    Spreading the Wealth

For the third straight game, Florida State had at least 10 different receivers catch a pass as 11 different Seminoles caught at least one pass in Saturday's victory over Wake Forest. Eleven different receivers caught a pass against Murray State and 10 different receivers were credited with a catch against Savannah State.

    What a Comparison

The Seminoles have allowed just two punt return yards so far this season (Wake Forest had 0 today), while accumulating 220 on punt returns (89 today). Rashad Greene is averaging 19.6 yards on 11 punt returns.

    Third Down Defensive Efficiency

In three games, Florida State has held opponents to just a 11.3 percent (5-fo-44) third-down conversion rate, including an 0-15 stretch dating from the second quarter of the Savannah State game and the third quarter of today's matchup. Wake Forest went 1-for-16 today on third downs, Savannah State went 1-for-10, and Murray State converted 3-of-18.

    Tank Rollin'

Defensive end Cornellius "Tank" Carradine set a career high for sacks and tackles for loss with 2.5 sacks. His previous career high in sacks was one against Notre Dame in the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl and his previous career-best mark for TFLs was 1.5 against Virginia last season.

    Jernigan's Career Day

Sophomore defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan had a career-best six tackles. His previous career high was five against NC State in 2011.

    Beatty's Boot

Cason Beatty's 50-yard punt in the third quarter set a new career high.

    Stopping Campanaro

Wake Forest wide receiver Micahel Campanaro came into today's game having as a productive a season as any receiver in the country, leading the ACC in yards (130.0 ypg) and the entire nation in receptions (22). He had just two catches for eight yards versus FSU and was targeted seven times.

    Make it Six-And-A-Half

Bjoern Werner recorded his ACC-leading sixth sack of the season in the first quarter, and added a half-sack in second quarter. He finished with 2.5 tackles for loss. He now has 17.0 career sacks and 26.0 TFLs, which is 19th most in FSU history.

    Price Shutdown

Wake Forest quarterback Tanner Price completed just eight of 22 passes for 84 yards. It's the lowest amount of yards in 16 games since he passed for just 73 yards at Vanderbilt on Nov. 27, 2010. It's also the least number of completions and worst completion percentage (36.3 percent) for Price since he completed just three of 16 passes (18.8 percent) at Virginia Tech.

Greene Finds The End Zone Again

Sophomore Rashad Greene gave Florida State a 14-0 lead in the first quarter when he returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown - his second punt return for a touchdown this year (47 yards vs. Murray State in the first quarter). It marked the first time a Seminole returned two punts for a touchdown since Willie Reid returned three in 2005 (61 yards vs. Maryland, 83 yards vs. Virginia Tech, and 87 yards vs. Penn State). The school record for punt returns for a touchdown in a season is three held by Reid (2005) and Joe Wessel (1984). Greene is the seventh player since 1973 to have at least two touchdowns on punt returns in the same season (Gary Henry (2) - 1979; Joe Wessel (3) - 1984; Terrell Buckley (2) - 1990; Tamarick Vanover (2) - 1992; Dee Feaster (2) - 1996; Willie Reid (3) - 2005; Rashad Greene (2) - 2012).

    Seminoles Score First

For the third time in as many games this year, Florida State was the first team to score. On Saturday against Wake Forest, EJ Manuel found the end zone on a 16-yard rush to give the Seminoles an early 7-0 lead. The scoring drive covered three plays and 47 yards as all three plays came on the ground. Chris Thompson carried the ball twice for 31 yards including a season long run of 33 yards, while Manuel's carry of 16 yards marked his longest rush and first rushing TD of the season for the senior quarterback. The rushing down for Manuel was his eighth career rushing TD.

    Smith Extends Catch Streak

Senior wide receiver Rodney Smith extended his team-leading streak to 28 games with at least one reception following his 20-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter to give FSU a 38-0 lead. The streak began on Sept. 18, 2010 vs. BYU. The school record for most consecutive games with a reception is 38 games by E.G. Green (1994-97).

    Sacked On Offense

When Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel was sacked on the first play of the second offensive possession in the first quarter on Saturday, it marked the first sack allowed by the Florida State offensive line this year and the first since the third quarter of the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl against Notre Dame. The Seminole offensive line went 153 plays without giving up a sack.
