Before all the posters who love to pounce on stuff like this can get their chance, yes, I realize the 2012 season isn't over yet.
I know a lot of people will vehemently disagree with my opinion, but regardless of our ACC title and BCS birth, I feel like our 2012 season didn't meet "my" expectations. We won't meet or beat our 2012 preseason ranking, and for the most part I saw what I would describe as "uninspiring" football from our Noles
Fast forward to 2013. What will our Noles have to do in order to meet "your" expectations. This means there is no wrong answer.
I for one won't have the expectations for 2013 that I had in 2012. Our 2 toughest games, Clemson and florida, are on the road. I expect florida's offense to be better and Clemson's defense to be better. If we split those games, I will be happy. Those are pretty much the only 2 games on our schedule again since we get NC St at home this time .
Because Clemson is in our division, it's entirely possible FSU could miss out on the ACCCG if we lose to them, yet back door our way into a BCS game. But more than likely if we lose to uf, which I kinda think we will, we will see the CFA bowl.
So meeting expectations is 10 wins and the CFA type bowl. Beating expectations is either going to the ACCCG and winning.....or at large BCS game.

Far more aggressive defense. This year we went into the season with nearly two studs at every spot on D. We'll have less KNOWN before the year but tons of talent to make happen what Pruitt wants to see happen. D will be intense and excellent once again.
Watson will return and that gives us the best OL we've had in at least 10 years. We also have very good RBs, very good WRs and a very good TE tandem (I think O'Leary turns his brain on as a Jr).
We need a QB to step up, I believe Coker will start with Winston getting intentionally worked in, but how much will they really have to do?? We should lead the country in YPC again next year while handing it off more.
Some see us lose certain players and assume drop off, but a team functions based on a few choice factors and I believe FSU 2013 will be Jimbo's best team yet.
Elite Run game, very good OL, very good DL....Boom
I agree with you on the OL and that 2013 has the potential to be Jimbo's best team. However, I think uf and the offense under driskell will be dramatically improved and they too will have a VERY good team. Plus we play them on the road. Clemson's D under Vernables (sp) should hit stride in 2013. Combined with what we know their offense can do, I expect an exciting showdown at Clemson next year. So we could lose those 2 games, not make the ACCCG nor a BCS game, and the season will not look so stellar despite the talent on the roster.
I also think the 2013 Clemson team will have similar expectations to what many of us had for FSU in 2012. They will get FSU at home and have to play what will probably be another solid USC team. Not sure what the rest of their schedule looks like, but I bet those are their toughest games. With a little dose of the normal good luck teams need to get to the MNC game, they could be primed for a run.
I'm also excited about what should be a more aggressive D with more blitz packages.
One thing that worries me about Winson is that unlike EJ, he will have to beat out an "incumbent" QB to get multiple years as our stater. If Coker starts this year, that gives him the straight lane for 3 years as our QB.
I hope that next year's team plays a little more loose. They seemed to try to protect the preseason expectation and not lose more than win games. Games like USF, Miami, Va Tech etc should not have been close and feel FSU kept them close by stepping on their own foot. I want more pressure from FSU's S than relying on 2 stud DEs that were held all the time. Clemson and UF on the road will be tough. I think UF will lose some serious talent on D though. An ACC title would be great. 10 wins is reachable. Look for more of a team effort with breaking in a new QB.
I agree. Two extremely hostile environments against top 15 teams. Florida is not going to be as good on defense next year but their offense will be markedly better. But you never know how teams will perform once the ball is kicked off. I think we go 1-1 in those games and hopefully we don't crap ourselves against an otherwise pathetic schedule.
At this point I'll take a 1-1 split in those games. That will give us either an at large BCS birth, or the ACCCG and the Orange Bowl. If we beat cu at cu, we could roll into uglyville undefeated. Jeez that's scary to think about.
You never know from year to year how team will progress cause if you had have asked anybody at the beginning of this season a majority would ahve picked us to hammer Florida at home this year. I think this season is a really big fork in the road type of situation for Jimbo. He pretty flopped at developing his first hand picked QB. The roster is all players that he has given the ok on and he's taken a huge gamble on an inexperienced DC. If the team flops again next season and Florida continues to ascend upward I think he could be looking at a hot seat situation in 2014
- Lots of Tricket hate (father and son).
- Calls for Jimbo to give up play calling
- ACC hate
- Personal attacks
- Many Warchant comparisons
Oh, you meant our football team? 3 losses.
I expect Werner and Rhodes to leave early. Jameis Winston will beat out Jacob Coker for the starting spot. The offense will be explosive with Wilder, Freeman, Pender, Green, and maybe Alex Collins in the backfield and five starters returning on the Offensive Line. The Defense will take a step back but will still be the best defense in the ACC. FSU will win the ACC in their FINAL season in the conference before they depart for the BIG 12 in 2014.
Somehow an even less exciting season than this year.

One of the better rushing attacks we've had in years
Better execution on offense when it matters
Strong Finish to recruiting(it is 2013)
win a game as an underdog
Ok some are what I'd like to see
I give us a 30% chance of winning at Clemson and 20% at UF right now. That means we likely lose both. Factor in the 1-2 other upsets Jimbo is good for, we are looking at 3-4 losses during the regular season.
You say 2-4 losses then predict a 13-1 season lol
I think we will have the most talented team on the field in every game we play next season.
The Clemson game will be tough because their defense will more then likely improve and their offense may as well, which is scary. As others have said it is on the road and Death Valley is no easy place to play. With this said I still think we get it done.
The UF is in the Swamp so that makes it tougher. The offense will no doubt improve but their playmakers at WR will have to be freshmen and they lose a couple OL. Their defense will be very good again but they are likely losing a lot of NFL talent this year.
Offensively my hope is that our OL can be so dominant that we will be able to run the ball on anybody and put our QB(whoever it is, my guess is Coker) in a great position to succeed with a lot of playaction and a great group of WR's. Our QB just needs to make good decision and be accurate.
Defensively I think we take a step back in the rankings because we will be more aggressive and therefore give up more big plays. The flip side to the aggression should be more turnovers and game changing plays. Our talent at DE will take a big hit but I think we will be better at every other position next year.

Depends on Spring Practice and who declares. If we only lose Werner and Rhodes early and Winston or Coker win the QB job I think we are 10-11 win team.
Clemson is tough to project because if they lose Hopkins, Boyd and Ellington we are going to beat them. But if Boyd comes back it will be a tall order.
Florida is the same way, if most of their juniors come back they will be tough to beat but they could lose Elam, Floyd, Easly etc. on top of a lot of seniors.
assuming Watson doesn't leave our OL will be a lot better with a full year of experience together between this season and spring practice. We are deep at all the skill positions only losing Thompson and Rodney Smith but playing half the year without Thompson we know we can perform well.
On D Edwards Casher Hollin and Newberry will be good, not great like the unit was this past season, luckily we will have the best DT group in the country with Jernigan, McAllister, Goldman, NLS, Shanks.
LBs will be just as good if not better returning Jones and Smith as starters. Even though Vince had a great year for us I think Northrup will be primed to step in and perform in the same fashion as vince did. Eligwe and Terrence Smith will give us great depth and if Karlos makes the switch full time it could become our strongest unit on the team (I really think the GT game is how he would play at LB)
Our secondary would have fantastic talent returning and Pruitt will only make them better. Not that Pruitt is a better DB coach but they won't forget what Stoops taught them and now they will learn more and be better players. at corner you have Waisome and Darby with Hunter playing nickel, then over top you have Joyner and Brooks. Brooks had an up and down year but I think he will be primed to breakout next year.
Special teams. Hopkins will be missed. No matter how good Aguayo is, that being said Aguayo will be another GREAT kicker for us in his career. With another spring under his belt Beatty can only improve his consistency, there were punts where we saw the talent but his inconsistency is what made us so frustrated.
Then you have recruits who could make a major impact
Commits like Ryan Green, Levonte Whitfield, Freddie Stevenson (EE) and Desmond Hollin (JUCO) have the best chance to make an early impact.
Recruits that will make an impact if we close with them- Matthew Thomas, Leon McQuay, Alex Collins, Priest Willis, Jalen Ramsey, Tashawn Bower, Carl Lawson, Stacy Coley, Keith Bryant
Now obviously we will not land all of those recruits but we will land some and they will all play whether it is in blowouts or making the rotation or playing STs
I'll go with 11-1 for now, splitting Clemson and UF for now. If for some reason we get Werner back and UF and clemson lose Juniors as we expect or worse we could run the table. We are that talented.
That being said if we see Werner, Joyner, Jones, Watson, Rhodes declare you could see me drop my expectations to a 9-3 type of year.
Regular season right? Sorry, couldnt read beyond this.
I'll play. We lose Junior's Werner and Rhodes. Spring practice makes it clear Trickett is our starter. However, Coker is hot on his heels and injuries give Coker plenty of playing time over the course of our season. Our special teams improves with the exception of field goal kicking which isn't terrible just not as good as this year. We stop dropping the ball and get consistently good punt and kickoff returns. Our net punting improves 4 yards a punt. Our offense is dynamic with play makers at every position and a very solid offensive line. Junior running backs hit the right holes and make the correct cuts. Pender adds speed to the backfield, but it is a learning experience for him. Greene becomes the go-to receiver with Benjamin making great strides his second season. Bracy adds speed and is used all over the field. O'Leary continues his path of improvement. Our long throws become a big part of our offense, forcing the defenses to play back which opens up the field for our running backs, TEs.
Defensively, we appear more dynamic and finally start getting some turnovers. Opposing teams appear to get weaker as the game goes on instead of stronger. The team turnover margin flips to our advantage. We use the blitz to keep teams off balance with the exception of Clemson which we are able to get pressure on without many blitzes because their offensive line is young.
At Clemson becomes the game of the year for us. We pull out a close win as Clemson still doesn't have their defense up to snuff. We have a couple close let-down games mid season, but manage to win. We go to Florida undefeated. They have 3 losses. Despite this they are favored at home. There offense is slightly improved moving into the top 50% of college football. Unfortunately, they are still one-dimensional with a poor passing game. Their defense has taken a step back, with major losses of players and they aren't getting the turnovers they got in 2012.
We lose a close one, but go one to win the ACC championship.
OK, now here is what I know will happen:
Fans bitch about how bad a coach Jimbo is.
Fans think the back-up QB is better than the starter
Fans think our offensive line sucks
Fans want to fire Trickett and Jimbo after every close game, win or lose
Fans will want to leave the ACC
Fans will talk about rumors about us joining the Big 12, Big 10 and SEC
I'm excited about everything except Jimbo running the O and (less so) Trickett likely starting because of his experience/knowledge of Jimbo's baroque O.
FSU Football. Making cool the new swag since 2013.
2 L's out of Clemson, Miami, Florida
We are going to kill Miami.
Possible in the scenario I listed
