For those that keep saying Jimbo is an offensive coach and will give the DC full control, you are very much uninformed. Not only will Jimbo put these guys through intense interviews to see there thoughts on the X and O's that will be brought to FSU, but Jimbo will see that the defense fits his philosophy as a whole. Jimbo isn't just an offensive guy, he is a football guy and is very in tune to what he wants on Defense. Please just trust Jimbo in whoever he hires.
Texas was 11th the year before too with most of the talent returning for this season
Diaz fuggin sucks
"In his first year as a full-time coach, Diaz helped the Wolfpack to one of their best seasons ever, finishing 11-3 and defeating Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl. He shared in the play-calling duties, and N.C. State ended the year ranked 14th nationally in total defense and 10th in scoring defense. In back-to-back games against Florida State and Notre Dame, N.C. State did not allow an offensive touchdown.
Diaz spent four seasons as defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee State University. Diaz also coached linebackers for two years after mentoring the safeties during his first two seasons in Murfreesboro.
In four years under Diaz, the Middle Tennessee defense led its conference in sacks and tackles for loss twice, and finished no lower than third in the league in either category during his tenure. In 2009, the Blue Raiders finished second nationally in tackles for loss, stopping more than eight and a half plays per game behind the line of scrimmage. Diaz's defense also ranked sixth nationally in sacks that season, posting nearly three per game.
Also in 2009, Diaz tutored defensive end Chris McCoy who was tabbed the Sun Belt Conference co-Defensive Player of the Year. McCoy led the league and ranked sixth nationally in tackles for loss. Safety Jeremy Kellum and cornerbacks Alex Suber and Marcus Udell were also named first team all-SBC. Defensive end Jamari Lattimore along with linebackers Cam Robinson and Danny Carmichael earned second-team honors. Overall, Diaz' unit produced 17 all-conference players during his time there and put up three of the top four fewest yards allowed averages at Middle Tennessee in its FBS era.
In 2010 with the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Diaz guided a defense that ranked 22nd in the nation in scoring defense (19.9 ppg), 17th in rushing defense (214.9 ypg) and 17th in tackles for loss (7.0 pg). That was a dramatic turnaround for MSU from the season prior to his arrival. In 2009, the defense finished 71st in scoring defense, 62nd in rushing defense and 89th in TFL. Mississippi State also finished ranked 13th in red zone defense (.73) and 22nd in turnovers forced (28) nationally this season."
My perception of Diaz is his D is very much like Mickey's. The issue I have with this is while it is very good against pro style offenses it is not great against spread defenses. If he decides to mix in and disguise more zone coverages along with using Nickel a lot then I'm all for it. We played a lot of man this year but imo that was because we had an elite pass rush, next year if Stoops were still here I would almost guarantee we would see more zone (which is the right move).

Thats essentially been my stance since Stoops left.
You filling multiple threads with the same wrong opinion isn't helping. Pruitt is known as a beast in the making. You just aren't aware and want to whine

Agreed, pruitt is my favorite right now
Easily the best choice
Well Sal Sunseti left Bamas staff after 3 years after making their olb's dominant and coaching in the NFL for many years. Got his first DC job at UT and turned The 23rd ranked defense (2011/12) in the nation into the 112th ranked defense in less than a year. Went from 4-3 to 3-4. But Pruitts been a DC before and seen a lot of juggernaut offenses in high school. If he's hired ill wait til we play a good opponent before I get excited. This will make or break Jimbos FSU career.
Well Stoops never did anything special against anybody good either, so for that reason alone im excited he is gone
Stoops defense never got INT's unless the ball was thrown right to the defender
Mickey was the DC for the Arizona Wranglers and Clemson before he came to FSU.

Before the Wranglers he was a Gator assistant, LB coach IIRC... maybe secondary.. can't remember
He was on Pell's staff is all I remember and he wasn't the DC
No defense will put up Good raw numbers in a league where every offense averages 70+ plays.
Manny is actually well known for being very successful with fire zone blitzes (5 man pressure with zone behind).
Stoops ran a lot of man this year for reasons unknown, and didn't necessarily take advantage of that pass rush all the time. Was an extremely conservative in game coach.
Also was a HC at West Alabama and North Alabama I think according to Wiki. Pruitt seems like an up and comer but that is why Jimbo will put him through a pretty good interview. Remember, Stoops recommended Eliot to Fisher but he didn't offer him until he was blown away in the interview. FSU is not a place where you hope someone can learn to be a good DC. I don't think Jimbo needs to see DC @ X college to determine if the guy knows what he is doing. Coach Jag was fired by the Bucs because it became apparent that he didn't know how to call plays during the preseason. How he got the job without demonstrating that first is beyond me. Seems they were only looking at his resume with a title. Sort of like only looking at recruiting stars without popping in the the tape. There is a reason why FSU wants kids to camp there before they are offered. Esp Qbs. Jimbo wants to see and hear with his own eyes. Have trust guys. I'll be happy with either Ward or Pruitt as long as they bring an attacking style of D. That recipe is what works against spread teams.
Using one year as an example instead of a career is a poor choice on your part. Try doing some deeper research.
Well then drop some knowledge on me then, because really your only rebuttal is I'm whining, when you are really saying nothing BUT that. He has 2 years of DC experience in high school as a D coordinator, he won recruiter of the year last year..facts. Saban would have to knock on my door and tell me himself that he would be his new DC is Smart left. Link some stuff, show me something dude that says he's as good as you think he is.
Let me add, I've looked for solid info on the guy and there really is none, Jimbo did well with Stoops and if he indeed does hire Pruitt which he is payed millions to make those evaluations then there is good reason. So I'll deal

Man, this place has turned into the TC.
He was the DC at Clemson from 77-80. Pell was the HC at Clemson from 77-78.

Lol. Love that you want to hire a guy with no coordinating experience because he worked under Saban and is a good recruiter.
Jimbo says "hi."
I don't disagree it would probably be a good hire, btw.

I'd hate to lose him but I don't mind him moving up the coaching ladder at FSU. I live in the Panhandle and he recruits the hell out of this area for Bama. Best of luck to him and you guys if he's hired.
Could Diaz and Pruitt be being brought in as Co-Dc's? I doubt FSU would pay a first time DC the same as they were paying Stoops.. That extra money could be used to bring in Diaz also as LB coach/Co-DC
Didnt read because you keep making it plainly aware you dont have a clue, you're just guessing the worst.
Try adding something with substance. Here are more FBS rankings to compare....yes from this past year.
75 - total D
101 - Rushing Defense
69 - Passing Eff Defense
114 - Redzone D
72 - scoring d
2 - Total D
5 - rushing D
3 - passing eff D
95 - red zone D
7 - scoring D
Look with Diaz...you know what you are getting. He can put up a good D. With Priuitt...you don't know. May have a higher ceiling than Diaz but unproven. The reality here...pick your poison.
While I'm not too crazy about either....Give me Pruitt over Diaz.
