954, please list your top 3 candidates for DC...
Chad Morris had no college experience as an oc worked out pretty good
I really like Pruitt. Saban's defensive coaching tree has been nothing short of outstanding.
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more serious than that."
Im a South Florida guy all the way. I like Manny Diaz the most.
I'm on board with this. Young, aggressive, good recruiter, and will be here for ahh while.
Has he ever fielded a top defense?
Is there an ignore on this site?
For those mocking Pruitt because he's "only" a DB coach. You do realize that Micky Andrews was "only" a DB coach before he became our DC??
Yes, it's 3 icons to the right of my handle.
Great point +1
Well at least technically Smart moved to inside linebackers.
thats awesome. Starting to like this site more and more each day!
just sketchy to me if he's the choice. Jimbo is an offensive hc. a guy like Stoops was a great choice because you knew you could leave him alone to handle that whole side of the ball because he had the experience and credentials to back it up. you don't have that with Pruitt. this is a guy who will be finding out if he has what it takes to be a DC at FSU. FSU isn't a place to cut your teeth at as a DC/OC/HC (though Jimbo is). FSU is where you end up when you've proven you've got what it takes to coach at the highest level.
if he ends up being the guy, it may work out great. he could be the next brilliant defensive mind. but it's a big risk and a leap of faith because you simply don't know.
"Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
Mickey is the greatest, but the game of football back then is nothing like it is today. And FSU wasn't the program 30 years ago that it is today.
didn't know that. thanks for clearing that part up.
FWIW Manny Diaz was Mickey's GA in 1998 and 1999
South Carolina fans beg to differ, they hope Morris stays around forever Im told
Basically he will do everything the way they do it at Bama. It's all he knows based on experience.
He will bring a lot of energy to the position because he never did it at this high of a level before. I'm all for it if he passes the Jimbo test.
I think we have the personnel for 3-4 defense. Love to see it.
The more I think about it, the less concern I have. As a Saban guy, you know he pays attention to detail and is very well versed in the Xs and Os. He's also coached in the SEC, so he knows what elite defenses is. There's not a better defense in the country or a better coach in the country to learn defense from. That, in combination with his recruiting abilities (which we clearly need a spark in) could be a good thing for us. I'm sure he'll have some blitzing wrinkles too, which will be necessary next year; ours were bland and ineffective. He'll have a very talented roster to work with too and chances are he's around for a handful of years if he's successful. The only qualm I have is play-calling inexperience.
Dooley, was a Saban guy....how did that work out. Just because you are tied to a coach does not make you a good coach. I get so tired of the bs about a guy being a Saban guy.....this guy has zero dc experience.....zero. Jimmy was a great coach.....how were his assistants as head coaches......how about wanny and norv turner. How about belichek.....Weiss, Romeo and the pats oc.....how did those deals work out....so yeah fsu should hire a no name dc.
FWIW....Texas D ranked 75th in Total Defense in FBS. Also FWIW....Clemson was ranked 74. Texas was also 53rd in FBS in sacks. I can keep on going on why Manny Diaz is a bad hire.
