Not looking good for those who wanted him here...Auburn buddy says almost all but done. He will get close a million a year. Have total control of defensive hires, exc...FWIW
This is why I said that it would be a bidding war and we'd likely miss out.
Swing and a miss, but for that kind of $$$$, I'd rather keep shopping.
Do you really want to go that high for a 61 y/o coach whi is a "pretty good" recruiter?
It's an ROI question...........
What about Van Goder? Seems to recruit well and has NFL experience...
Agreed!!! Really want chizik...not sure that's a possibility. Was Ellis the guy the administration was working through the red tape with I wonder? Any thought?
I'm getting that Greg Hudson feeling.
This is why leaving this conference is crucial. A crap school like Auburn can make better assistant hires than us.
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more serious than that."
Exactly. We are beyond Auburn in everything but green backs. We lose. We gotta leave.
Auburns gotta get somebody sometime
Kenny Powers: "A true champion will do whatever it takes to rise above. Because surrender is death, and death is for pussies."
I don't want Johnson, especially for 1 million. FSU can find a better option for less. He's not a million dollar coach, not even close. We can spend that, but not unless the coach is a jomerun.

Very true but we need to act fast
Agree with Kum here! LIke Ellis Johnson but not for that price
I'm good with that, let the search continue IMO we need a real breath of fresh on defense but in a hurry so we focus on recruiting and our bowl.
it ain't over til its over.....beware of "my buddy said" sources......just saying
I agree about the my buddy stuff...I said FWIW. I think he may be right this time though
Has nothing to do with it, if we were in the SEC wouldn't pay that kind of money either. That's just stupidity at its highest level. You pay good money for a head coach, assts come and go and will always be had. FSU could pay that money no but they are also smart to not offer that much.
Lol if I only had a nickel for everytime auburn said that a coach was a done deal to them, that didnt pan out...well you know the rest
A very good coach once told me players matter more than coaches.
I believe Coach Amato was right about that. A coach can call a bad game yes, but great players matter more.
You shut your mouth!!
Ha! I don't think there's any reason to worry either way. Hudson could probably be very effective!
This. I'd rather have Van Gorder for reasonably less than $1 million than Johnson at $1 million.
We don't need affective. We need elite because the trickett/jimbo offensive combo will suck in every big game so we need an elite defense that always steps up in big games. Hudson is not the guy. I don't even want him as linebacker coach. He has had a unit that has underperformed for two years.
I would rather a young guy who is hungry from a smaller school.
I was never a fan of Ellis.
Jimbo needs to take a coordinator from a mid level school who has a scheme capable of forcing turnovers so jimbos inept offense won't have to put up as many points
I dont understand the lovefest for Van Gorder. I dont want us to go anywhere near him.
I think BVG made 850K last year.
This really doesn't surprise me. We can't compete with schools like Auburn, Arkansas, and Tennessee for assistant coaching hires. We need to think outside of the box because a program like FSU is not going to outbid or attract a DC candidate that the SEC giants are interested in hiring. As much as I love FSU, from a career standpoint, there are probably 9 SEC jobs I'd take before FSU. Hopefully, these facts lead to some creative, innovative hiring, because we can't compete the traditional way. Frankly, I'm really excited.
