pretty good recruiting pitch for Johnson
That's pretty freakin' impressive.
The poster formerly known as 31-7. Understood by few, known by many, loved by all.
Im looking at it personality wise. Jimbo and Spurrier are very different coaches...
Jimbo's weakness is this guys even greater weakness. It doesnt make sense to bring in a poor manager
We? I am my own person
Jimbo only yells at mistakes. How about getting fired up when someone makes a great play? He's like the dad who yells when you get a C and doesn't comment when you get an A
The more I think about it the more I would rather a young up and comer like stoops over Ellis johnson
I don't want another coach taking his last job like trickett. I like young coaches with ambition.
So have any of you guys ever heard of the serenity prayer?
The "not ever good enough" coaching philosophy? I get what your saying.
While important to correct mistakes, it is equally important for a leader to acknowledge brilliance. This is the biggest thing Jimbo needs to work on from what I have seen from my couch.
Sounds like a discrimination suit waiting to happen.
This is exactly why we need a strong AD. You need someone to objectively look at the coaches and determine how they will mesh together. Someone's personality type and skill set who flourishes under Spurrier, are not likely to fit the same way under Jimbo.
It's not as simple as plug and play... look at your job and your company... have you ever worked with someone who was brilliant, but a poor fit?
If your hiring for this position, you list Jimbo's biggest weaknesses, and hire the best candidate whose strengths are Jimbo's weakness.

Players tune out when all they get is negative feedback.
You earn the right as a coach to yell at a player when you are his number one fan when he does stuff right.
as a Southern Miss Alum, he hired some people on his staff that didn't sit well with a group of high profile boosters and the staff as a whole never seemed to work together. Ellis is a great coordinator, but as a Head Coach he has never gotten it right. I would love for him to come here and be our DC.
Not just players, it's human nature in general. Just like if you have a boss that gives you nothing but crap if you mess up... no attaboys, no raises, no perks... you end up looking for another job and just turn into a robot until you find one.
I am hoping that there is more to Jimbo than how he has been portrayed, and what I have seen on the sidelines. I hope he tells the kids good job every now and then.
Have you heard about that side of him AG? Hopefully you have and I have the wrong impression.
Not sure on the done deal, it could be though. I assumed he would wait until at least until one or two of the SEC jobs fill and those Coordinator jobs fill. After his short run as a HC and at his age he may be just looking for the best paying DC job, which will be an SEC school.
Would be a good hire I think, not sure we could afford him, still up in the air though.
I obviously agree on Jimbo since I am pretty much down on him entirely. He seems to never be solution oriented on the sidelines. He just wants to make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that you know you just blew it and I think a lot of it goes back to his own insecurity. He needs to believe himself that it was EJ and not himself.
don't think Stoops' defenses at Zona were that crazy good either. he got elite production when he got here with elite talent. Johnson could follow suit.
"Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
That's all speculation. FSU could very much afford him if they wanted too. However, I have no problem with FSU being less liberal with their money, especially with a guy like Johnson (not an elite DC). If Fisher wants him, FSU could very easily pay him a a couple hundred thousand mire than Stoops (which is what the elite sec dcs are making), ) Im just not sure the would want to.
It is speculation, by Josh on 24/7,, Bud on Tnation and now me yes. They get the credit and I feel the have a good handle on it.
When you declare him not an elite DC, what is that based off of?
Sorry, a coach would do a better job at realizing who would mesh with the staff than the AD. As for your comment about replacing our AD, I can't argue against that. Seems like well have a replacement soon enough.
It's also wrong. Josh did NOt say we couldn't afford Johnson. What he said was that he'll wait on the SEC positions to make their hires. Why? Because then he and his agent can realize his market value and leverage money. There's no sense for him to jump on his first offer.
Josh already clarified that.
I'm sorry bud, but this can be proven wrong in numerous instances.
You can go coach by coach in the NFL... and there are plenty of coaches that MUST HAVE a GM in order for them to be succesful... and there are a select few that DO NOT NEED A GM for them to be succesful.
Belichek vs. Fox is great example... Both winning coaches, Bellichek can be his own GM... If Fox was his own GM right now, Denver would be burning down around him.
You are trusting Fisher with making this decision, while questioning why it took him so long to bring in an OC and get rid of Trickett?
Very different skills sets are needed for a coach vs. AD/GM... Big picture vs. Detail oriented... Genetics deals your hand at this... very few people can do both.

Man, you are projecting.
Our fan base is schizophrenic. First, he's arrogant and cocky. Now, he's insecure. First he yells too much. Now he's too meek and unexcited.
Does Ellis Johnson have any top assistants he would bring with him?
I don't remember anyone crying about either. I remember people saying Jimbo is an emotional train wreck during games and to be yelling a Wilder after he'd just scored a td looked really silly.
