"Florida State ILB Vince Williams: A late addition to the Senior Bowl roster, Williams came to Mobile, Ala., and immediately stood out as the physical and emotional leader of the South defense. He is a big-time hitter, shows good instincts and is at his best against the inside running game.
Williams' estimated 40 time is in the 4.9-second range, but he makes more plays outside the tackles than you would expect from a player with his timed speed. Patriots ILB Brandon Spikes -- who ran in the 4.9s at his pro day workout -- has shown inside linebackers can overcome a lack of elite speed, even in today's pass-happy NFL.
Overall, Williams (6-foot-0½, 247 pounds) grades out in the late-third or early-fourth round area. "
Think London Fletcher!!
Crazy that he didn't get an invite. Do they have a limit on how many they take? Who chooses who comes?
Three W's In My Life: Ward, Weinke, and Winston
I believe each team chooses who they want to see and gets a number of invites.
It doesn't matter tho. Scouts will be flocking to fsu pro day this year. I think scouts are most interested with Jenkins cause he's a first round talent that someone could steal late second and early 3rd. The same could be said about Tank. I actually thing he was the better de of the 3. Jason Pierre Paul Clone
Vince won't be drafted based on measurables anyway. I think he could excel in a 3-4 scheme where the inside backers have less coverage responsibilities.
Either way someone is going to pick up a great player that can contribute on the field and in the locker room.
Honest question.... How can anyone that have watched Fsu play the last three years think Vince is an nfl player. Fsu MLB play was just awful the past few years. Brandon spike who was mentioned was so much Better than Vince in college it is not funny. John Bostic may struggle to get drafted.
I simply compared his measureables to Spikes. We'll see how it shakes out. Spikes was picked on coverage too though this year. VW is a good run defender, at least indulge me that much.
Previous years, I'd have to agree with you. Thought he played pretty well this year and very well in a couple of games.
He played well against georgia tech and niu. He was down right awful against Clemson and florida. He is the MLB on the team and made zero impact plays. I can't wait till Fsu has these new guys play...the fans will see what real MLB play looks like.
Regardless of how Williams performed, our LB play in general was terrible. That position coach wasn't brought back....
Everyone wants to blame coaching. The year before Fsu linebackers were good. Why, because bradham had a good senior season and christian jones was more of a fit at slb. No bradham and the move of jones did not work out. Fsu is upgraded at every position.
The criticism of the linebackers coach is well deserved. People criticized our LB play last year too. No one has developed from that unit besides Bradham.
Just sit the Vince threads out.
I'll admit he was pretty awful for a while there, especially when he was weighing 265 and was just a lumbering body, but i felt he was really really good this year. No i would never want him in coverage, but as a pure MLB he is pretty decent.
In the red zone and especially goal line defense I think Vince played his best..I think Vince can do well in the nfl against power running teams.i hope the kid makes it..he bleeds garnet and gold
