Synopsis: we're not-so-subtly exploring our conference affiliation options and we are not currently in negotiations to extend Fisher's contract.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The latest jewel added to the Florida State athletics department is being assembled...
So Fisher has 5 years as of now?
I especially liked the part where we are trying to figure out how exactly to market ourselves to the SEC as a can't miss package.
The poster formerly known as 31-7. Understood by few, known by many, loved by all.
"Last year's ACC title and Orange Bowl victory were significant strides after a long dry spell, though Spetman understands that a vocal contingent of Seminoles fans felt the season fell short of expectations. That makes an evaluation of the program's status right now a bit tricky, and that's part of the reason Spetman said there are not ongoing discussions with Jimbo Fisher regarding a contract extension."
This shows me Spetman is completely worthless and does not have a brain in his body. His idea of leadership is to read message boards and take it from there. He is going to give Jimbo reason to find a school that appreciates him and I have no doubt we will be ten times worse off without Jimbo
Reading "vocal contingent" and thinking that means message board posters is incorrect. Spetman does not care what we think. That's code for "some of our biggest boosters love winning twelve games but we feel it should have been 13 and these same super rich boosters want to see one more year before we give him the key to the city".
Message board people are the fanatics of fanbases and nobody cares what we think but us.
Either way Spetman could not figure things out for himself if he had to, He lists as the wind blows. When I spoke of "message boards" I spoke more in hyperbole, but given my observation of Spetman it fits anyway. I do so hope his contract is not renewed. Fisher's accomplishments were very good this year and this program has come a long way during his three years. He deserves some appreciation. If he does not find it here then maybe he will somewhere else and FSU will be the loss for it.
The disrespect shown towards Spetman is completely out of line. The guy could cure world hunger and people would ask why it took him so long to do so.
Us and Virginia high school coaches.
I personally do not think that he has done a bad job. I know that most when I will say that, will point out that he trotted players out during the Bowden fiasco rather than speaking himself. However other than that P.R. gaffe, and that is all it was a P.R. gaffe, I feel he has done a pretty good job.

There is certainly warrant for criticism, as there was for Hart too. Bottom line, the athletic director will always be under scrutiny, no matter who it is. Saying the guy is a moron, a lost sole, worthless etc. is off base and out of line. He may not be perfect and he may not be the best guy for the job, but he is, however, heading up the most successful and richest FSU athletic department in its history. He deserves credit for that.
The major reason people question him is because we haven't left the ACC yet. That's not his call.
i will be very suprised if randy's contract is extended.also,i think coach fisher's contract will be extended sooner or later.as far as conference affiliation is concerned, randy has no input.keep your eye on the upcoming bot meeting.
I include myself in this category, but there are a lot of FSU fans that don't see much outside of football. Our sports program may not be as profitable as most, but it is more successful than most. Spectman is not responsible for the HORRIBLE tv contract the ACC signed with ESPN, nor did he vote to raise the ACC exit fee to $50 mil.
I know this may come as a surprise to most, but I'm glad he hasn't extended Jimbo's contract. Congrats Jimbo, you won the ACC and are now the tallest midget and pounded a high school team for a bowl of oranges...now do it again and we'll talk.
FSU's sports programs ARE more profitable than most. They generate revenue in the 85 percentile of all college athletic departments. There are a select few that are more profitable than FSU and unfortunately, those select few include our major instate rival and several regional recruiting rivals. That's why "money" always appears to be a concern to fans.
The contract extension is for recruiting purposes. It brings him to a 5th year. Ramsey's Dad said some schools pointed out to him that FSU isn't commited to Fisher because he didn't get the 5th year extension that most coaches do.

If our Athletic Administration is making decisions based on what the money Boosters want then it is a truly pitiful situation. We then are no better than Auburn and Bobby Louder. I had hoped we had Administrators capable of independent thought and able to make decisions on what is best regardless of outside pressure.

Please call me when our athletic program turns a profit. We were 16 MILLION in the hole in 2010-2011. So yea, we aren't as profitable as any team that turns a profit.
When a well paid "director" shoves a couple of guys in front of the media then scoots off stage left and leaves them to deal w/ it that "man" deserves no respect.
Everyone has their marching orders. Not sure why everyone assumes that was Spetman's call.
It's not everyday you usher a legend out the door.
Spetman is not the final authority on contract extensions and raises.
Very few teams have been turning a profit lately and that's what is driving conference realignment. Tennessee is $200 million in the hole, but is working off of an annual $100 million dollar budget. FSU is investing in itself by taking what ever profits they may turn and putting that back into facilities, coaching and recruiting. FSU's annual budget is in the 85-percentile of college athletics. They have plenty of money to spend (which they are doing--$32 million in upgrades to Doak/TLCCC, dorms, College Town, IPF, plane all cost money).

Then be a man, not an Air Farce bureaucrat. Shoving Ponder and Watson out there was terrible, and at the end of the day Spetman could have prevented that "marching orders" be damned.
There is a reason Tk hired him and apparently that virtue must still be applicable.
Of course he is not, no AD is "the final authority"but to think that the AD has no pull and has no power to get his way is naive. Now with Spetman, the less influence he may have the better that makes me feel.
Lose to NC state and no contract extension for you. Next year will define the rest of Jimbo's time here... if the inconsistency continues vs. the low hanging fruit... the same people calling the program "stupid" for not extending will be the first on here throwing a hissy and calling BOT/Spetman idiots for giving him an extension.
Next year is truly the prestige... we see consistency develop OR we dont, and the end is a forgone conclusion
