Check out Dilfer's quick take on Jameis:
Holy crap. Well, I guess we won't be able to keep realistic expectations for him now.
Hopefully he sticks around long enough and doesn't go play pro baseball
Now I really want him to get the starting job
Unless he transfers to JUCO, he can't go pro until after 3 years at FSU, unless he's much older than your average Freshman
Here is what Dilfer said about Winston two years ago at the Elite 11:
But back to that game-changing first night. Winston sat on his bed, exhausted, and studied the playbook. When Trent Dilfer, the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback who serves as head coach to Elite 11 participants, made a second round of bed checks, he found Winston engulfed in the pages.
Dilfer made a note of the time: 1:12 a.m.
"He manned up," Dilfer said. "The next day, his eyes were bleeding he was so tired. But he was killing it. He didn't have to say anything, but his actions told me, 'Let me show you I'm not just a gifted athlete. I'm a surgeon.'
"I think the kid's the real deal. I didn't know ratings going into this. I could care less about the perception. To me, they were all high school quarterbacks. I don't care how famous they are. He's earned my respect. If I'm a college coach, I want that guy."
After coming to the Elite 11 finals unprepared, Jameis Winston turned things around in one night, writes Mitch Sherman.
Only confirms that if this kid is not starting in 2013: a) Jacob Coker is really really good or b) Something is wrong with Jimbo's system if he can't tweak it or simplify it to allow a talent like this on the field.
Confirms that i would take this kid over any of the top DEs of the past 3 years(happy to have one of them). JW has talent and hidden talent(tons of potential) and if he starts this season has healthy career i'm sure we are going to be in the NC one or two the next few years. Watching his High School Sr clips says it all, i haven't seen a better HS player.
If anyone knows the minimum required to be a 1st round pick it is Trent Dilfer.
Not a shot at Winston. He will be a great one if we get OT's that can block for him in 2015 & 2016.
It is a shot a Dilfer. Come on Bucs fans, join my in forming the firing squad
Ha, I'm sure Jimbo loves that Dilfer made those comments.
In no draft ever are Glennon or Landry Jones selected over Matt Ryan
Not guilty y'all got to feel me
But is he a show dog or a hunting dog?
23,000 dolphins are killed every year in Japan. For pest control. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KRD8e20fBo
There is something about this kid. The all-world talent, the charm and charisma, the 4.0 GPA; I don't know, but he was my favorite recruit all of last year. I think he'll satrt over Coker and Clint transfers.
The Future is Now.
If EJ is a hunting dog then I hope Jameis is a show dog
Sucked out loud as a QB, but he's actually quite good as an analyst. Dude definitely knows his stuff

Sounds like wishful thinking. Clint will only transfer if his pops retires.
The most impressive thing so far about Winston (since I haven't seen any practices) is his enthusiasm on the sideline. Here's one of the top HS athletes in the country 2 years ago -- being redshirted -- and he's out there pumping everyone up, whipping the towel around over his head, and being one of the first on the field to congratulate someone for a good play.
He and Vic should get some kind of award for sideline excitement.
Now compare Jameis to another #1 rated HS QB ... Xavier Lee. Lee sat on the bench pouting and spent his free time watching movies instead of game film. I'm not sure how good Jameis is going to be (my assumption is really good), but there's no question he's a guy you want on your team.
I'm still of the opinion that Coker is going to be really good also.
I am not so sure about Glennon
I remember Dilfer going from skeptical to being head over heels for Winston in one day at Elite 11.
