With him looking more and more like someone who may be in this class, I went looking for some info on Bryant and found the linked article. Interesting read. Whether he signs with us or not, I wish him well. He's been through a lot, but it sounds like he's turned his life around and is committed to making something of himself.
In the article, Bryant admits that he let his grades slip until this year. Mods, do you know if he is on track to qualify?
In the picture associated with the article, Bryant looks like he has the frame to put on plenty more good weight. I assume he must be a pretty good athlete, as he was apparently starting on the school basketball team and only began playing football this past season. Has anyone seen him play? Curious how raw he is and just how big his upside may be. It looks like he generated a lot of interest early, but that didn't translate into many big offers. Also saw somewhere that he only had four sacks last season, which isn't many at the high school level.
Any insight would be appreciated!
Either this website doesn't exist or is not currently available.
BTW, the link worked for me even though it shows up as "unavailable." But if it doesn't work for you, the piece is an article from the Daytona Beach News-Journal. You can find it by Googling Bryant's name, about 7-8 search results down.
I just watched his film. Good body and excellent athleticism. But he is really raw. He looks new to the game. Has a hitch in his get off and not an explosive tackler. But an intriguing prospect if we have room.
If we take him, it probably means we aren't getting Bower or Yannick.
Definitely raw. This was his first year playing football but helped lead New Smyrna Beach to a 9-1 season and a district championship.
Reb, crazy story. Thanks for posting. You can only root for a kid like this.
Dal, I'm going to be ripped apart for the comp, but he looks like a raw Dante Fowler as a junior in HS. Comparable frames and athletic ability.
He passes my eyeball test.
He is indeed Dallas, but I love his frame and athletic ability. With proper coaching and development, he can be a very good player for FSU.
agreed . nothing against this guy but this offer is discouraging regarding Yannick and Bower.
I prefer moving Hicks back to de if we need the extra de body. I know this is for the future but it seems like we could go +1 next year.
All of our De's have been hits so I guess why not take one flyer if it comes to it?
