I know it's cliche at this point, and I'm pretty tired of saying it myself... but think about it.
We lose EJ on offense, but Trickett has proved more than capable and very knowledgeable with the playbook. We also have Coker, Winston, and McGuire waiting in tow. Our WR corps is going to be insane next year. The OL will finally be national championship caliber with the horses to push around anyone. Our backfield will also have a plethora of 4-star & 5-star backs and our TE's will be solid.
On defense our line will be anchored by Jernigan/Goldman/NLS. Our ends will be solid and amazing if we somehow convince Werner to come back for a title and Jenkins wants to improve his draft stock. LBs might be a question.. but they have been for about 10 years now so nothing new. Sure, we lose Rhodes, but Waisome has played pretty well and Darby has proven he's going to be a monster. Los comes back as well.
Convince Joyner to come back for a ring and watch out.
The poster formerly known as 31-7. Understood by few, known by many, loved by all.
Would be nice. Hope so.
yeah but what if we were the '89 49ers?
now that would be rad
I think we have a chance to be better than we are this year. I really do.
QB- most uncertain position, lots of POTENTIAL
RB- even or better
WR- better with experience, only lose Rodney Smith
TE- better with experience, lose nobody
OL- better with experience, only lose Stork
DE- Even if 1 of Werner or Jenkins come back and we sign the JUCO DE
DT- Lose Amp and Dawkins, bring back plenty of experience and young guys are more potential
LB- If Jones come back, we will be better. Anybody over Vince is an upgrade. Moody is on a milk carton
CB- I think we can be equal here even if we lose Rhodes. Darby and Waisome are the goods. Hunter is really coming on, PJ Williams is the goods.
S- If Joyner returns we will be better with experience.
The big questions are
- Who starts at QB
- What happens at DE
- Do Joyner and Jones come back
Does anybody else think Trickett is the exact type of QB Saban would have at Bama? Not a super star or amazing athlete that's gonna do anything in the NFL. Just smart enough to get the job done and rely on the O-line running game and defense.
And yes I realize that McCarron has been blowing up the past couple of weeks.
Folks mentioning Christian Jones going pro are starting to blow my mind. He isnt going anywhere.
If we get one of Bjoern and BJenks back we'll be just as good, I think better.
Its just the way our team will be built. We will be able to run ALL OVER every team we play outside of Florida and I bet we get 180-220 on them as well. A team that can run, stretch the field on the outside, block, rush the passer, stuff the run and cover....they can win.
Our run game, OL, DL, and DBs would make us Elite
Would be great if we were, but you definitely need to include Lonnie in your analysis. There's a reason the announcers can't go 2 minutes without mentioning his name.
I think stork is a rs jr.
We are going to finish in the top 10 next year for sure...unless something weird happens like losing our best offensive, defensive, and special teams player.,..oh wait?
Really, our O will be better. Our OL, RBs, and WRs will all be better next year. Our DL should be equal or maybe better depending on how people develop or handle the pro draft. Our LBs should be better. We lose Rhodes from our DB bc I think Joyner comes back. Going to gville and winning will be hard hard hard, but I think we have the team to do it, but so do they.
I'm a Trickett fan for many reasons. I like what he displays and think he'll be a STELLAR leader for us.
Lonnie is THE man. That said, it will be relatively easy to phase his position totally out if need be. The plays we can run with him are great but we can put Wild and Free in the shotgun with Coker and we'll run much of the same stuff.
We will just run some different plays with him gone.
I don't think we will be better next year. This year should be our year. Now, if some unexpected people come back for their SR yr, I would rethink my stance, but we have up to 5 guys on defense that could leave early, plus 5 SR's on defense that play often. That is a lot of experience to lose on defense. On offense, EJ is underrated in my book (not getting into that though), and then you lose Pryor is a hell of a weapon. Thompson and Smith are also gone, but we should be okay there. We are loaded at WR and Thompson is a big loss, but we should be used to it after these past two years. I can't imagine it rupturing the offense.
Offense - lose EJ, Pryor, Thompson, Smith
Defense - Amp, Dawkins, Tank, Moody, Vince + 5 JR's all good enough to leave if they want to (I don't think half of them should)
If Joyner, Jones, and 1 of the DE's come back, we should be pretty damn good. Unlikely though...
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more serious than that."
Werner is NOT coming back.
He is a sure 1st round pick, and can set himself up for life.
Come on guys.
Stork would be a big loss, but he isn't going anywhere. The OL will be one of the top 3 in the country, that alone makes us a contender.
Lonnie will be a HUGE loss, and I'm not sure he is replaceable.
The thing most people miss is that CJF is building a PROGRAM, not a team.
We will always be contenders as long as we keep on recruiting.
There could be a slight drop off next year. A lot of senior leadership leaving. If some players step up, we'll be great.
Yeah, because the NFL never drafts great measurables and athletic ability way higher than they should.
Not too much Senior leadership === NCSt loss.
We wont replace Lonnie, we will scheme him out basically.
Now I agree 100% with this post. Thompson and Pryor are the only players that consistently exhibited Senior leadership on the field. Lonnie will be replaced by O'Leary.
Jones is NOT going pro early. Let's just get that out of the way. Losing Moody won't hurt us a lick. Jones, Telvin Smith, Northrup, and Eligwe will give us a terrific LB unit. Throw in the freshmen and we'll be set there. Xavier and Werner are GONE, but Jenkins and Joyner stay. Stork is a junior so he stays. We are going to have a killer OLine next year! Regarding QB, it will be an epic battle. Trickett's got a head start, no doubt. We lose DHop, but Aguayo is supposed to be a worthy successor. RBs and WRs are off the charts! DLine should be very solid. I like our young CB duo of Waisome and Darby. Next year we will improve upon our 13-1 record.
The Future is Now.
Do we have that big corner like Xavier who can frustrate good receivers by getting hands-on at the line of scrimmage?
Sure fire first rounders have come back for their Sr years. Werner fits that mold plus gotta think he wants to finish school, also his wife goes to school in Tally as well. him leaving early is not a slam dunk
Add Terrance Smith as well. Fred Stevenson is early enrolling and should be 6'1 225 as a Fr who can run and strike.
My returning % guesses....
Haulstead --- 50
Gehres --- 50
C.Green -- 50, think he quits honestly. The WR talent is still pouring in
Faircloth --- 25
Orelus --- 50
Jenkins --- 60, went from a super soph to real good Jr to injured Sr. I think he returns
Werner --- 25, he would love to come back but being crazy rich is just so sweet
C.Jones --- 95
XRhodes -- 20, wont rule it out but his frame will keep him in top 45 picks for sure
Joyner --- 90, he's coming back

I could see Christian Green leaving.
Hope he stays, good athlete very underutilized, made a lot of plays last year. plus he has already take a RS, do him transferring to another D1 school would be stupid ATP
Using that kind of language is just an effort to shift blame. Jimbo loves winning and has shown despite anything else the best man plays. CG just isnt studying, practicing, lifting, etc hard/well enough.
Lets quit with the "Christian is a stud, Jimbo just isnt using him" messages
How can losing your starting offensive backfield not hurt? Losing the play and leadership of EJ, Pryor and CT will be noticable, especially early.
It's been said for a while that the loss of Lonnie is when we move to more 2TE sets.
