Firing Trickett and Hudson
Hiring OC or play caller
What does everyone else have.
I dont have any confidence in Jimbo in his current role. If he hired an OC/play caller i would be ok with that to see how it works.
I just want to see a new DC and an OC.
1. Hire new DC who runs a 3-4… the top 3 Ds in the country right now (ND, Bama, UF) all run 3-4s. Let this new DC bring in as many D assistants as he wants.
2. Hire an OC – someone who will run 75-80% of Jimbo’s O. We need to see more motion and misdirection in our O. This will also allow Jimbo to focus 100% on being a HC.
Not sure how strictly running 3-4 makes you better, but i would like to see a more aggressive style.
3 - 4 does make blitzing and schemes a lot more unpredictable, from what I have seen. Thereby, it would seem a more aggressive style of defense.
We may get a new DC by default, and an OC would help give Jimbo more time to be HC. He needs more time to be HC, but will he hawkeye all the OC's plays (and not give him some autonomy)?
Dont really need that when you have elite pass rushers, but lbs have been unspectacular under Hudson.
Depends thats why dont think Coley would work need new face new scheme.
I think we will get a new DC by default as mentioned above and we need to hire a OC with some fire not the vanilla stuff Jimbo runs and a lb coach who can coach and bring out the beast out of our stud lbs....and just for kicks someone who has the testicular fortitude to glue a pigskin to the hands of these guys during drills
I would like to see us make a play for a new Oline coach. Just not a big fan of trickett. Would love to see us go after the oline coach from Stanford who is a Nole Alum. Jimbo has gotta delegate some of the play calling to coley or bring someone in that will.
Dont care who dc is...just wanna see run blitzs at times and pass blitz to disrupt things...pressure causes mistakes
Give Coley a chance...I mean a real chance.
On the DC thing, we need someone who makes in game adjustments and has a mean streak; I miss MA.
We don't need to go total 3-4 but we should be more multiple. Definitely more creativity and aggression. We need to generate more big plays defensively.
I'm already stuck on Bloomgren. Makes too much sense. Which is why it won't happen.
Jimbo strikes me as the kind of guy that just won't let go of the offense. The evidence is in his stubborn playcaller. Lets run wide in the 4th - WHEN IT HASN'T WORKED ALL DAY! I swear to God this guy is gonna cost me a TV or at the very least, a remote. And maybe cost himself a job. He must give up the offense but I just don't see it.
Personnel wise - I'd like to see bigger LBs. Every other position is fine as far as our recruiting specs. People complain about small OL but we've been recruiting bigger there. Now we need someone to get them to play bigger.
Next year a 3-4 might be the best option. If werner leaves we have casher edwards and newberry as our DEs. Some of our dts (jernigan) could move outside
You guys act like our Defense sucked this year! Heck, even our offense wasn't bad. We have a Top 5, if not better, defense. Stoops will be gone after this year either way, so many of you will get your wish.
On the offensive side, I wouldn't mind seeing somebody who will be allowed to call plays. I like Coley, but Jimbo doesn't seem confident in his play calling abilitities. Do you guys remember our O-line before Trickett? He is the best thing we have had in a while for an OL Coach. Heck, we had most of our OL on the ACC First or Second team...thats not shabby.
Burley Nole 4 Life!
He can bring the DC with him while we at it?!
But neither was good enough.
Obviously, I think our defense is outstanding. LBs nothing special but everything else makes up for it. But creating confusion leads to interceptions and a team can always use those, especially when you can't mount a drive lasting beyond six plays.
The offense is not good enough to get to where we want to be. Will Jimbo make changes? I'm not confident.
So maybe boosting the D from very good to out of this world good is our only option.
As far as the ACC goes, where could win every spot on the All-ACC team and I wouldn't bat an eye or even care at this point.
3-4, 4-3, it doesn't really matter, there are many ways to play winning defense. We were a solid defense, but we didn't turn teams over and we didn't consistently get pressure with our front 4. When you aren't getting pressure up front, you have to bring the pressure from elsewhere, and Stoops doesn't do it very often. Running a 3-4 though, I think you eliminate the threat that both Goldman and Jernigan can be, because you are asking your NT to be unselfish and tie up at least 2 blockers, not use their quickness to rush the passer and disrupt.
"A Seminole warrior killed in battle is a legend remembered. A Gator lost in battle becomes a pair of boots and a belt. "
For OC, sounds crazy I know but Joker Phillips. Bad HC but was a great OC and recruiter at UK.
Shanks at NT? A possibility. I feel ya though. I don't even want a staright up 3-4. Ideally we could play a multiple scheme with speed and size to do both.
what are the chances jimbo actually hires a OC?
Yeah, i want to see Coley get a real shot before we go out and hire someone.
The people that always clamor for an OC always fail to realize that Coley was one at one time, and did a decent job.
He said after NC State he knows he will need to do so at som epoint. When that point is, IDK. But a convincing loss against your rival at home and an inexplicable loss to NC State may be enough for him to realize it's time, otherwise, another year of inconsistnecy, might cost him his dream gig.
We just need a DC who will actually utilize our skill. We sit back and play a bend but don't break style of defense that minimizes the effects of our talent. We could be giving so many different looks with the personnel that we have and we could be harassing the QB much more than we have been, which would force more turnovers. Werner's and Carridine's pass rush fell off at times during games this year, but we still stuck with the zone and 10 yard cushions when it did (should have blitzed). We have a 1st round corner, 2 first round/2nd round DEs, a ball hawking safety, a 2nd-3rd round LB etc. and not one of them became a play-maker for this defense. They played very, very well, but there were very few "big" plays by them. Our blitz's were always stuffed because they were very predictable. Why don't we ever go for strips?
As good as our defense was, they could have been much, much better with a better scheme. Alabama, UF, ND, LSU etc. forced something like 20 more TOs EACH than we did this year!

Personally, I'd rather go all out for a proven commodity. Coley may be a good OC, or he may not. I really don't want to sit through another year with someone learning on the job. Coley's offense at FIU was pretty bad (269 ypg), understandably, but there are many coordinators out there that can produce with mediocre talent.
FSU Ambassador to the masses
Changes I would like to see are as follow
Steele for Hudson
Sam Pittman for Trickett
Ellis Johnson for Stoops
OC who the hell knows give Coley a shot or let him and Dcraig split the duties as run/pass coordinators.
we had switched things up after the Ncsu loss with that karlos package, didnt see much of that the last couple of weeks
