I'm guessing LT.
Well, one of the DT was likely to move...we thought it was Mitchell, but if it's Cam, you've got to trust the staff on this one. They know what these kids can do after all these practices, and if they'd rather have Cam on the OL than Mitchell, I'd like to see how it plays out before making any judgments.
Did he play ol in hs? Or is this a totally new position?
I think he played DE in high school. One of those massive 3-4 ends I think.
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more serious than that."
Marcus Spears played TE before he was asked to move to DE.
Patiently waiting on the resident insiders to confirm
They will probably evaluate him during the spring. If he looks solid at the position then they may go into the fall with him. If there are any doubts about his being a force on the OL they will probably keep him on the DL. I'm sure he knows all about the DL he needs to so missing a spring while learning the OL would not be a loss....jmho
We may be seeing Jimbo going all in on 2012 trying to maximize a shot at a natty with a senior QB, if true.
OL is our only weakness. Odds are that some dlineman would transfer, why not change their position instead?
atgreek already confirmed on the first page
Do not like..........wtf is with some of these moves from the coaches ? This is as bad as Los to O.
Cam was a legit beast and a star in the making at DT. I guess they feel confident in NLS, McAllister, Shanks, etc.
Cam has first round talent at DT. This is definitely interesting.
And if he does move over, hopefully he starts at LT and it must mean that Mitchell and Goldman are outrageous, because Cam is legit.
Someone on another thread said Cam requested it.
If the coaches weren't OK with it, I'm sure they would strongly discourage it.
I'm guessing his potential at LT is huge.
If the coaches are OK with it; so am I.
I love this move.
First off, look at the DT depth.
Experienced returners: Tim Jernigan, Demonte McAllister, Darius Cummings, Jaccobi McDaniel, Everett Dawkins
New guys: Derrick Mitchell, Eddie Goldman, Justin Shanks, NLS
Then you see Sneat and Bain (who's commitment may be solidified by this move)
Also...look at Cam Erving's game. He plays nasty. He is getting PF calls at DT all the time. He has LONG arms...the guy has OL written all over him.
Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or it may last a year. But eventually, it will subside. If i quit, however it will last forever.
Physically I have no doubt he could do it. But he's already wasted two years on defense. That's my only reservation. Can he contribute on offense MORE than he could on defense given that he's essentially starting over? We just brought in two JUCO tackles, albeit one is very raw.
I agree with the poster who said spring will be the deciding factor. I just love what I saw out of the kid last year on defense is all.
he played both in HS, and was an all state on both sides of the ball
literally nothing like Erving at all
Seems like a real waste to me. Kid has two more years to play, and one of them will be spent learning a new position. Better to keep him on the DL where he WILL contribute significantly over the next two years. Cam will be a better DT in 2013 than an OL in 2013.
See how he adapts to the change during spring drills and practice...he may get destroyed or he may pancake everyone in his path. If they put him at guard his advantage is that he knows how interior linemen operate. Don't see any reason why this would really hurt.
If it's evident offensive line ins't his calling the coaches simply say you're a hell of a defensive tackle, you now have a better grasp of the other side of the ball. Hope you learned a thing or two.
Florida State University c/o 2010
He's as good or better than any returning DT with the exception of Amp, Tim, and Dawkins
chances that more than 1 of the incomnig/rs DT's are good enough to earn a spot in the rotation are slim
and lol at moving proven guys to please HS kids
stupid move, even if he's the 1 that requested it
I mean I'm sure there are a lot of kids that wanna play QB as well
What's the weakest spot on the team? What is the strongest/second strongest unit on the team? There lies your answer to the move.
Nobody knows how good Mitchell and NLS have looked at DT. If the coaches are good with the move, it must mean they are very comfortable with what they have at DT or are worried about OL. Plus it is quite possible and IMO a good idea for Jacobbi to redshirt this year, get his knee better and come back strong in 2013. Then there is always the possibility of Terry Bell coming back for 2013 as well.
So in 2013 you could have at DT:
Sr. Demonte McCalister, Jacobbi McDaniel
Jr. Tim Jernigan
So. Eddie Goldman, NLS, Mitchell
Fr. Shanks (if he shirts) Bain, Senat
Potentially: Terry Bell or another 2013 recruit
I know he is 6'5, but I think Cam would make a monster Guard. Especially if he puts on another 10 or 15 pounds like everyone expects him to. I love Cam as a DT, but think he could be a much bigger factor for our team if he can be a monster OL.

A) Cam will be successful at either DL or OL. He is huge, athletic, and is aggressive.
B) What good does having 5 deep at DT when you aren't 2 deep at OT?
C) FSU is literally 4/5 deep at DT, an embarrassment of riches. I would rather move someone than lose a talent because he is tired of sitting the bench (even with a DT group that rotates, FSU can't play this much depth).
D) OT makes HUGE salaries in the NFL. Great financial move for any DT with the talent to play there (ie Cam or Mitchell)
This is NOTHING but positive.

Maybe he saw the movie "Blindside" and all that talk about how LTs make so much money, combined with the fact that we have no idea who is going to be our LT next year, had him in Jimbo's office the next day.
ill believe it when I see it
tits was all state his senior year.............. defensively
I'm torn on it. Like everyone here, I was pumped about how he was playing on the DL and his future there with our other young players....but if he wants to give OL a go per his own desire, that intrigues me and I want to see it.
