I don't think the offense was as bad as it may have seemed. Keep in mind, we returned 3 full time starters from last years line-up. Delph and Nogo platooned.
We forced 27 walks (not surprising for a MM jr. lineup), had 9 HBPs and only 18 SOs. We were on base a lot and put the ball in play a lot. You have to think that some of those hits begin to find holes.
Also, keep in mind that last years series versus RI was tight on Saturday and Sunday. We won 2-0 on Saturday and needed a 2-run walk-off double from Boyd to win on Sunday 9RI led that whole game).
The defense has a lot to improve on, but again, we have a lot of inexperience in the field (3 new infielders and 2 new OFs). Brizuela could be an issue at 3rd base if he doesn't improve quickly. He had 5 errors this weekend.
The pitchers had a weekend ERA of 3.21, but Miller's Sunday performance is concerning. I think Leinbrandt will perform much better as th eyear continues. The pen performed well this weekend.
Delph really stepped up this weekend. I would like to see Kneif get more reps. Maybe at CF and have Davis DH. Stewart at LF.
Gonzo seems the same. Will K a bunch of times this year. Still really good with the glove but neds to be moved down in the line up.
Brizuela had an awful weekend at 3rd base. Did look better with his bat.
I was extremely happy with the new comers this weekend. Stewart was great, Davis was awesome, Jameis looked good on the mound but struggled a little at the plate, Coles looked good in his limited time, knief looked good in his brief appearance and sansone had a great weekend as well.
Liebrandt didnt have his best stuff on friday but battled. I thought sitz was pitching well before being pulled (not sure why)
Now miller was AWFUL. seems like were going to have another year where the 3rd starter isnt defined til may.
I am interested in seeing if some of the newcomers take over the Sunday role. Burkhead and Silva have a lot of talent, but they may not be ready yet. These next two classes in addition to last years will get our pitching talent to a level that we haven't seem around here in quite some time. Hopefully this is the last year that leaves Sunday as a questionable start.

I think we will struggle to score runs this year, especially in the acc... this lineup is weak and there is no other way around it
pitching will also take step down with the loss of Compton... Sitz and Miller are both inconsistent
if Rhode Island doesn't walk guys like they did they win the series... thats pretty telling of our team imo
I would like to see a line up like
I would like to see Jameis Winston as a middle reliever
We will be in the thick of things like always.
We did that with every team we played last year. We work the counts. Thats what we do. If we dont commit close to 10 errors they dont win a damn thing.
Correct. Those walks weren't coincidental. FSU has been at the top or near the top of the NCAA in walks for the better part of 5 years now. Jeff Cameron has been talking about this all week. The offense will be just fine.

FSU total base on balls nationally:
Those corner infield spots will be something to watch all season. Jayce Boyd saved a lot of runs and errors with his glove at 1B and Sherman was great at 3B. Jose and whoever ends up at 1B are definite downgrades. 5 errors in a weekend is brutal.
Miller is an absolute trainwreck.
Saying the lineup is weak after 3 games is just as silly as those saying it is better than last year's lineup.
Too many unknowns to make a definitive statement either way.
And the scary thought is he "won" the Sunday job over Weaver.
You like Smit over Nogo? any reason why? i dont know much about him.
I've seen enough of Nogowski to want to see what Smit can do.
I am not truly passionate about this decision and think Nogo could possible be effective if he can stay out of his own way.
We'll find out in ACC play. I don't think we'll really know until then.
I need to see many more games before I can form an opinion on who should be in our line-up and where they need to be. As stated, there are too many unknowns at this point.
I agree with McGee in the 2 hole. Really the only spot I sort of like him at in the top 6 batters or so. I want to see Smit more at 1st as well. Its likely not an option but I know Davis has played some 1B in the past; id like to see him there with Delph Stewart and Knief in the OF
