does Greg Hudson become a equal candidate to what's left on the DC board?
I'm not a fan of on-the-job training for our coordinator positions. We have suffered the growing pains of a first-time head coach, and I'm not sure FSU is the place to learn how to be a defensive coordinator.
I certainly didn't think it would take this long for a decision to be made, and I hope that Jimbo has a real ace up his sleeve, but unfortunately things don't always go as planned.
Look at the talent coming back on defense. Could Hudson's recruiting downfalls be offset by an ace recruiter to serve as LB or DB coach?
I dunno. I just wonder if it's a "no way in hell" situation, or a "there's other guys like more". Well, at what point do we run out of "other guys"?
Not gonna happen
I'll be honest, i don't want a person who has never been a playcaller before, and i know that would rule out Pruitt, but i think if i were FSU, i would have had Hudson be the DC for the bowl game and evaluated his performance.
Yes his LB units have underachieved, yes he has done a poor-ish job recruiting, and yes he rubs some the wrong way, but try to think how excited some of us were years ago at the thought of him being our eventual DC, or even our DC at that time. He had good defenses at ECU.
I am willing to bet we make a quality hire and that it's not a name mentioned thus far. People assume we can't fill the position because its been 5.5 days since Stoop left, but I dont think that's the case. I think it's the opposite (too many candidates to choose from). This is an important hire and we should take our time. I think we may be looking at the nfl too.
This is my question. I love the concept of a guy like Pruitt, but I'd rather him go learn somewhere else then we try to hire him...which is why I'm hoping Jimbo stays in contact with Eliot.
Great point about the excitement surrounding Hudson when he was hired. It's odd that some fans have soured on him so fast when they have very little information on which to evaluate (I mean, how many "insiders" do we have floating around here lately).
If he's that bad, then why the hell is he still here? Was Jimbo waiting out Stoops departure to make a move RE: Hudson? Well, Stoops is gone and he's still here. Additionally, there are TONS of jobs open right now...
It's not adding up. I do not love the thought of him being a DC, but at some point you have to re-evaluate based on what information you have.
I don't think there is a huge rush to make a hire. I know Fisher is working on it, but there's no need to jump at someone right now. The staff isn't hosting any official visitors this weekend and my not have any next weekend. FSU always pushes them to January when they can.
On top of that, the recruiting dead period starts in 7 days. I'm not saying the search will go that far, but it's much more important to find the right guy rather than rushing a decision.

Good point, I think first time coordinators would be a reach when we have a former D coordinator on the staff already. I was hoping Jimbo had an ace up his sleeve, I'm now thinking he didn't or it would have been announced by now.
I don't claim to know anything but this time i do the guy has personal problems its not going to happen
I come down on this side of the coin as well. I'm just shocked that some were so "on board" with a guy like Jeremy Pruitt.
I too think we're looking at the pro ranks. Wish we could find a Dan Quinn clone, haha
What would you consider an "ace up his sleeve"? If you don't think he has one of these, do you not think he'll make the right hire?
Personal problems can be fixed, by the way. I know exactly what you're referring to
He said in his press conference he had a running list, which gave me the impression he at the very least had 1(ace) good, solid hire if not more. Now here we are a week later and we hear Jimbo is inquiring about first time coordinators.

I realize that but I would say he has burned enough bridges here that he won't get the chance.
I don't get this comment, at all.
What is an "ace up the sleeve" hire? You're making it sound as if FSU is desperate to fill the position, when clearly they aren't. Fisher may have a list, but what happens when you have unexpected interest in the position? You're making an assumption that FSU is truly looking at first time coordinators to fill the position. They had one of those on staff and let him go.

I swear most times you speak like you want to fight, but here goes, Jimbo(not me) said in his own words he had a list of candidates he would go after. Which pardon me, I was assuming one of them would be an ace up his sleeve and maybe poor terminology there, but GD. I can only make assumptions of what Josh says and if Jimbo is indeed inquiring about Pruitt, then that would be a first time coordinator. Which leads me to believe his list didnt work out. I guess you would also be making assumptions about unexpected interest in the position. Never said we were desperate, never implied it. WE will filll it just may not be our first choices. I am now done with the conversation.
I guess it is just how you interpret Jimbo's statements. It looks like when Jimbo said he had a list of candidates you made the assumption those candidates were current DC's at other schools whereas Jimbo's list may contain both coordinators and position coaches.
It would be nice to hire someone who already has experience at being a DC but I wouldn't consider only those who have that experience. Every current OC or DC was a first timer at one point in his career.
Do you, as a fan, think that FSU is a good place to "learn"?
This /\. It will be best for him AND FSU if he moves on and starts over.
Whether the guy comes in with experience as a DC or not he is still always learning how to be better. So if the person is qualified for the position then I have no problem with him coming to FSU to "learn". I would be more concerned about a guy who came here thinking he had all the answers and didn't want to "learn".
Having the title does not automatically mean you know what you're doing. I remember coach Jag was with the Bucs and they fired him when they realized he never actually called plays. That is what the interview is for to see how much of a football mind the coach is. DJ Eliot won Jimbo over with the interview. I just want a good recruiter who wants to use an aggressive style of play. Gus Malzhan and Chad Morris didn't have the resumes that jumped out but looks like they were the reason their HC coaches won a lot of games.

OP makes it sound like we don't have about ten great options on the hook. Which is wrong.
This thread is 2-3 posters freaking out and wanting everyone else to agree with them but its just not going to happen. Great options left.

Another swing and a miss
Too vague. Cant follow the cut down. My post on the other hand is addressing this thread. Which is where you freak out and say we may have to hire Hudson because the other options are dwindling. That is a swing and miss. So my post cant be.
