to make the conference more appealing to FSU?
Not even the 5-10 MAJOR needs to make the ACC workable for FSU, but just maybe 1 or 2?
Or does the ACC stand firm and basically call FSU it's @#$@#?
I ask because ACC fans seem to think FSU is just insane to have ANY issue with the conference and any issues just need minor tweeks.
Stuns me that such a huge percentage of FSU's fan base is willing to trust FSU football future to Swofford and this conference. I suspect FSU is about to get bent over and told to like it. How our own fan base backs Swofford and company is what makes it most annoying of all.
I like the acc... and I would prefer them to make a big push and get Notre Dame... I want the Big East to fix things once Notre Dame leaves. And I want all six conferences to stay top conferences. I want a 6 Team playoff where the top two teams get a game off. Then they play in the semis and then a final. I Feel this gives all conference champs a chance and allows for more room to not feel bad for a BCS buster jumping in to make a run at a national champ because they would have to play to get in giving them opportunity to prove. This allows for 5 big post season games that will generate revenue for all of football and it makes things more interesting. This won't happen tho. So honestly if we start losing recruits because we aren't in the major "4" conferences then we just need to move on. I'm hoping the acc turns some tricks though and makes itself a contender because I like the atmosphere of this conference.
Walking up these hills you have no choice but to be fast!
Nice wish list, but it's honestly not going to happen.
The BCS moves extremely slow.
The most we can hope for is a 4 team playoff.
Maybe after 10 years, they'll expand it to 8.
Looks like they have Barron in their pocket, so why would they? They have had the power firmly clenched in their Carolina fist forever. Any student of history will tell you: The arrogance of power never relinquishes it's strength without it's opponents resorting to extreme violence. In this case, not just maybe leaving and letting others speculate about it in the press, but presenting our list of demands to Swofford and his henchmen, and if they are not met, jamming a stick in their eye and leaving town on the next thing smoking. "Ya say wanna be a basketball and lacrosse conference? OK, have at it"!
This is what gets me.
Not only is Barron going to push the ACC he is going to push the ACC with NO REAL CONCESSIONS. And the biggest stunner of all.....FSU fans will support him.
You are right, the ACC has all the leverage here because FSU won't stick up for FSU.
The ACC have made their bed. As mentioned the only things that could possibly happen would be Notre Dame joining and they never will now. No amount of seasoning can save this pot of gumbo. We gotta go.
10 concessions? How do you figure that many?
Barron most likely does not like the power football has at the university, and like many U presidents, resents himself not having complete authority over it. Those of you with a few years behind them, have seen this played out in previous decades, where the coaches, teams and fans wanted something, only to have the U pres. block it. Is this the same scenario? Perhaps. What does appear to be true, is Barron is previously from the Big 12, maybe left under a cloud, and now is very happy to toe the ACC line, and let Swofford and his clowns piss all over us with impunity. I imagine he would be totally happy if we didn't even play the sport at all.
Gonna throw some up-votes out here, for those of like mind.

I find it charming that anyone here still has the impression that the ACC gives a rat's ass about us. They are all about themselves and the Tobacco Road. They try to pimp FSU for what we're worth to them, and that's all.
"It's not the SEC conference vs. the ACC conference," "It's Florida State vs. Auburn." --Lamarcus Joyner
"maybe left under a cloud, and now is very happy to toe the ACC line, and let Swofford and his clowns piss all over us with impunity. "
We have a fan base lining up to see Swofford doing the same all over FSU.
I am stunned at how many pro ACC FSU fans I see all over the internet. They really think FSU rubbing elbows with UVA, UNC, and Duke means we are like them. They also really believe 'just win' is an intelligent strategy. I can't believe how naive Dr. Barron thinks.
From what I read Barron said two things....just win...and...FSU will have a shot making the play offs with in the ACC.
This shows me a real lack of understanding about realignment on the part of Barron. The major issue that FSU faces is our financial security and the ability to keep up with the Southeastern football powers and this is spelled out financially. What he addressed were issues I would put lower down the list of importance.
It really concerns me that we have the lead decision maker, who does not understand the issues.
Until the deadline to leave the ACC passes and FSU does nothing, I refuse to believe anything anyone says on the record. I fully expect Barron to publicly support the ACC and claim Big12 has had no contact. I also expect Big12 to claim no interest or possible indifference to expansion ideas. Until the BCS resolves the playoff issue, nothing will happen publicly.
I'd be happy if they just let FSU use SEC refs for every game. That would save me hundreds of dollars each year of destroying my TV because some ACC ref makes a call like he's sniffing bath salts.
If you're going to say this you need to list what you think the "needs" are. Because outside of better television money - which the ACC can't get - what is there that can keep us on par with our SEC neighbors?
It would have been nice if they fixed their officiating, realigned the divisions so we faced GT every year instead of both BC and Cuse, actually did the football schools some favors during scheduling instead of screwing us over every year and if they would have started an ACC Network. But they have had years to do these things and have yet to do anything.
Aside from magically printing more money, what could the ACC do to appease us? Nothing.
We'll be happy to do a co-op with you; we'll loan our football refs if you'll loan your basketball refs. SEC basketball refereeing is brutal.
Land The Plane
"Aside from magically printing more money, what could the ACC do to appease us? Nothing."
PERFECT. That is what FSU is asking for.
I don't follow your last comment.
Have you watched ACC basketball? Terrible officiating if you are not wearing Carolina or Dukie blue
Water is just beer that hasn't reached its full potential.
Hokie here. Lot's at stake for all of us. We I suppose have chance at SEC if you guys leave. Dunno for sure. Where is the real truth though? I read all the tales being told about ACC contract. Two different tales. Yes the lies potentially are coming from BIG 12 bloggers not anyone on the ACC dial. I read above about boring games. I agree ACC has some private school issues but really anyone wanna see Iowa State, Kansas, or even Baylor(without RG3)? Texas? Watch what you wish for NOLES they will love to rule you like they have so many. Oh my and baseball team playing in Ames Iowa over Atlanta or even Blacksburg. I for one and starting to believe this is a SEC/Big 12 power play. SEC wanting the ACC to implode so they can get VTor UVa and one of UNC or STate. Big 12 gets NOLES and TIGERS. 10-15 years down the road who is happy? Doubtful if it is FSU and Clemson.. Fans especially. Money may be sexy but is also a trouble maker. Really I doubt if a league with Iowa State and KSU turns the dial as they are letting on. So what to do about getting the ACC better football. Well ND would help for sure. But the real issue was back in September. Pitt and CUSE got in. It should have been WVU/Pitt imo. Rivalries build leagues not just money. Yes WVU academics LOOKS might turn some heads but arent there common sense people from that school as much as an elitist IVY league school or DUKE/WAKE? IF WVU was coming into ACC I would imagine the ACC has no issues at moment. Hey and I am not a WVU fan by any means. I just see football not basketball. BTW in last 5 years their B-ball has been real good. Back to common sense people. Look where our presidents from past terms have been from IVY league schools. UGGGH. The ACC has to turn tables on the BIG 12. It can be done and probably will. Remember the Big 12 has been fighting for years and Texas will always dominate. FSU and Clemson will not leave ACC if ND does not enter BIG 12 in any capacity. This IMHO. It doesnt need to or should. Remember people how are yall going to sell recruits parents those long trips. YES ACC has them but is much more local in alot of ways. I look for changes to be made to benefit the conference. Maybe changing of divisions. PODS if we go to 16? OR plain and simple better scheduling. Meaning benefit the football teams of the league. HEY we are the money people. WHen Wake won the league that was a big embarrassment. Nothing personal against Wake but that cannot happen again. In short the ACC needs to turn tables on BIG 12. IMHO not a hard thing to do. JUST TIME. When they do watch for Pac12 rumors with Texas and OU to pop up. When that happen the ACC needs to go and get WVU in the wagon. Tell ND it is time to enter or we will get # 16. ACC people has issues on football but IMHO still strong. Time will tell, But Big 12 for NOLES and TIGERS is potential fools gold!
note: ALOT OF MY THINKING COMES FROM A NC STATE SOURCE.
I'll take Paragraphs for 1000, Alex.
The only lies are coming from the ACC who is telling everyone it has a good TV contract but won't let anyone read it.
The only fools gold are ACC folks telling people this conference isn't the next Big East.
The conference is a mess and what makes it worse is it's fan base doesn't notice the following:
*Horrible Bowl tie ins
*Horrible financial situation
*Business plan reliant on FSU going undefeated every year
*Horrible scheduling (see Clemson and FSU shedule last year
*Basketball interest telling football schools how to run the sport and not seeing the problem with that
*Future playoff revenues leaving ACC in the dust.
*UNC and Miami about to go on major probations.
*Horrible division alignment that forces FSU tied to BC, Syracuse, and Maryland.
*ACC fan base who doesn't see any of the issues.
*The Big 4 Conferences coming into play
*Equal revenue sharing
The one thing the ACC has going for it with that crap contract is that they can renegotiate every 3-5 years. With twice the population of the PAC12 in the ACC and entire eastern seaborne on lock, if the ACC (FSU) can make some noise in the national spotlight in football we can drive some more $$$ our way in the future. Also Notre Dame and Penn St or UConn would also help if they can pull it off
GO NOLES! / SCALP EM!

Can you expound on how UConn would "help"?
As a 16th team to go with ND, if we cannot get Penn St, then UConn who is not terrible in football (recent BE champs) and top 5 in basketball most years with nice football recruits in that area too believe or not would be ok with me. Only if they come in with ND and we tried Penn St first. It is better than Rutgers imo. Louisville would be my next choice.
