Comparisons of top prospects to top players are never exact because the reality is no two players are exactly alike. That being said, the ability to spot similarities between top players and top prospects can be a high-value piece of the evaluation process. So with that, here is a look at who some top prospects compare to.
The nations top Class of 2013 hoops prospect, Andrew Wiggins, has amazing athleticism. So which established player does he compare best to?
Chris Nee of 247Sports.com. You can follow me on twitter @CNee247.
2 inch shorter Kevin Durant if he works his arse off on his outside shot. He's more impactful going to the rim than Durant was at the same stage.
Jesus Shutlesworth ... mark it down !
I hope he does not have a selfish attitude like t-Mac
Kidd-Gilchrest had an NBA body as a freshman too. Not saying Wiggins doesn't but MKG was much more developed. I think the weight Wiggins ultimately puts on as he matures will have a lot to say about what kind of player he ends up being.
IMO, LBJ is the player to compare Wiggins to. I don't believe he will ever be as good as James, but if he can maximize his talent James' type of game (which is pretty unique in the NBA) should be what he strives for. I guess TMac had a similar type but he became much more perimeter oriented after he left Orlando (I could be wrong just how I remember his game devolving). James is a post player and his hobby is pg.
I could see Durant, but Durant was already an elite shooter. I don't think Wiggins is. I also think ends up being bigger than Durant (not height but weight), which would mean as he matures he should be focusing more on his post game. Durant has become a phenomenal ball handler too, which is something Wiggins will need to work on. That's what limits both Singleton and Snaer. Neither has a great handle (Snaer is better but he is a guard and should be) and b/c of that they aren't huge offensive threats.
I saw one site that compared him to pippen
Durant is one of the best shooters at his size to ever come out of HS. No comparison there. I like a Kobe comparison.
"I never knew I had a foot until I noticed it was on your neck"
would be nice to land this kid for a year
went and saw this kid play in person a few weeks ago and honestly the best comparison i could come up with is Rudy Gay. Wiggins does not have a motor anything like MKG, he does not see the floor or facilitate in the same breathe as Lebron, and I dont see the KD comparisons either. The kid is long and extremely athletic but does not demand the ball, nor does he go full throttle when he is without the ball. effort and motor is something than can be worked on certainly but I think he has been pumped up too much with the Lebron references. I'll be happy no matter what if he is a Nole, but Wiggins is much different than most of the players mentioned above.
Probably good for FSU fans to temper their expectations, even IF Ham is able to land AW. I'm sure his ceiling is quite high, but let's not get carried away comparing him to NBA HOF-types before he plays a game in college. Having said that, I echo ScalpEm's sentiments: I'll be happy no matter what if he is a Nole!
Not to mention Rudy Gay is a stud...
I'd be happy if Wiggins were similar to Gay (I wasn't calling you out, by the way).
If Wiggins can be half the player Shannon is we are set.... Kidding
And right on que he gets an and-1... You're welcome
I'd be OK if Wiggins learns a little bit about work ethic, hustle, & attitude from Shannon!
